Killer game or commonly known as wink game is a game in which a killer player tries to “kill” another player by winking at him or her and the other players try to identify who is the killer. The book entitled “Killer Game” by Penguin20 had the same concept but it was bought to real life. Same rules apply but this time innocents have to hide to survive and killers had to kill innocents in order to win the game.
In the beginning of this book, the main character was introduced as to how and why he joined the game. For me that is a necessity for every story because the readers like me, always wonder why the main character joined the game or why the character did that, and based on the story, it was because of poverty. Like most stories, during the first part was all a blur for the players and also for the readers but as the story goes on, things become clearer.
The game started with 26 players. There were 9 important roles namely: a serial killer, a mafia, an assassin, a traitor, a silencer, a police, an investigator, a doctor, and a nurse. The remaining players were civilians. Their roles were explained before the game started. The game was situated at a park in which the players stayed for 15 days. At first they thought it was all a joke but when the first civilian died, the players knew that it was a game of strategy and survival. As the game went on, many civilians died because they were killed by the mafia, serial killer, and assassin.
In every chapter, the author enhances the reader’s knowledge about each character. He added background stories of most characters which further enhanced the reader’s knowledge regarding the character’s lives. Most of the characters had their dark past that they left behind. Since the game consists of 26 players, some of their lives were not thoroughly explained.
At the end of the story, a plot twist was revealed. The whole game was not real, it was in virtual reality. Their deaths were not real but could be felt because they used something in order to believe the players that everything was real. The players were part of an experiment which was supported by non-government agencies (NGO) and was spearheaded by Jessie, one of the players or known as Amanda Matsui, the game master. At the end of the story, all the players survived the game and escaped the experiment facility.
Throughout the story, I did not lose interest in reading it. There is that desire that keeps you wanting to read more and more chapters. In the end, you keep reading the book from the start until the end. It was like watching a television series that you wouldn’t want to miss a single detail and you would want to finish the whole season in just one day. The whole story will not bore the reader, it was full of surprises and unexpected turns. It also keeps the reader busy wondering who are the killers and who will they kill next. It may have some errors but all in all, it is a great story which deserves a sequel.
