Jaehyo stopped on his tracks when he heard a voice, immediately turning around to face it. He sat down, examining the person for a few seconds. His previous goal had been to walk around aimlessly, and getting human care could certainly be better than that. Well, Eileen seemed nice enough.

He wouldn’t just easily give in, though. The werecat took small steps in the direction of the hand offered to him, sniffling it a few times before he sat down again, head slightly tilted. Looking at their features, the person had a fragile-looking face to go along with their bony legs; their stamina was probably on the lower side, too.

So Jaehyo decided to tire them out. He skipped around in a small circle around them, running away a few moments after. He stopped halfway through, turning back to face Eileen again, ears twitching with a signal to ask them to come along.

He waited a few moments for the other, meowing loudly at them to move faster. The kitten then went back to skipping throughout the campus, no set objective other than testing out how interested the other actually was. He would look back every once in a while, in hopes they hadn’t given up yet.

At some point, his tiny paws began aching from all of the moving, and in a last effort, he ran back to move alongside Eileen, now waiting for them to make the next move; all of the testing had become boring by now, he just wanted some milk. And in times of need he would, of course, blindly deposit trust onto anyone willing to abide by his wishes.

Human Jaehyo would deny his fondness of cat-related habits –like drinking milk and getting petted at the very back of his ears– with all of his might, but the kitten certainly didn’t have the time for saving face. Instead, he took onto rubbing the top of his head against their legs, in a silent plea for attention.

Maybe Eileen should have invested in a map, because without the daylight in assistance to showing them where everything is, the darkness seemed to cloud everything in an unfamiliar way. Which meant that they were not finding their dorm anytime soon.

Sighing softly they tried to look on the bright side of things while being stuck in the dark, at least this gave them a chance to learn how the campus looked without the sun, not that they’d be outside much during the night.  

It just so happened that the healer got caught in new student files and lost track of the time while sitting in their office. They didn’t even notice the change of light in their office as the sun slowly started to set. They supposed they were a bit of a workaholic and a perfectionist wanting to make sure their first job here was their last as they really did love it.

But while figuring out how to navigate around campus, something caught their eye. Something was moving through the grass and it only made Eileen want to follow it in hopes of figuring out what the creature was, curiosity was always something that Eileen had to live with. 

Approaching the grass and getting closer, they noticed that what caught there eye was a cat. This being the first time they’ve seen such an animal on campus, Eileen was very happy to see such a cute looking creature. “Hey there little one, what are you doing out so late?” They asked hoping to get the cat’s attention while holding out their hand for them to sniff. 

They didn’t want to startle the little thing by coming up and petting it, but they wanted the cat to come to them if they were interested. If not Eileen would continue to go on their way, a bit disheartened, but they didn’t want to bother the cat if they were on a mission.

I have my mind tightly set on my goals, currently. The entirety of Insolitus is still a bit tricky for me though. I mean, there are ghosts and spirits and all sort of beings around here, how does one cope with all of this information-

This has actually happened before. And, well, I had been very much in love. I would like to say we had a proper fight for once but really, we never even had an actual breakup. So what would I do if I found out I had been cheated on? Likely the same process of suffering, dwelling onto past things and trying to not be too much of a bother to my friends.

I couldn’t possibly. They hold a few of my fondest memories, and It’s not their fault that they couldn’t bring themselves to fall for me.

“And looking back now, I believe we never actually got s’mores, even though we have a marshmallow-based relationship. We’re weird.” Jaehyo shrugged, adding that to a mental list of things they definitely had to do one of these days. As he watched the other spinning around, he took in the words he had just heard. A hyung? Oh, well. He could get used to this one, too. Something that small couldn’t possibly damage the friendship they had built throughout the years. “What should I be calling you now, then? I’m sure I need to manage a new set of nicknames for you.” Jaehyo smiles, moving to play with her hair locks again; they would be gone when the other moved back onto his regular body, so he should appreciate them while he could.

*A playful smile spreads across her lips as she nods agreeing with him, letting out a content sigh at the petting on her hair* “Marshmallows will always be our thing, it´s what keeps our friendship unique~” *His poking on her sides makes her squirm around, giggling as quietly as possible. From the time he was a kid up until his enrollment at the academy, music classes had always been Jaehyo's favorite, so he didn't hesitate a single second when signing up for the advanced course the academy offered. One would think his skills at the piano would have gotten rusty with the lack of rehearsal over the years, but the soft touch of the tips of his fingers against the piano keys couldn't possibly have felt more familiar. Modesty aside, he did have quite skillful hands.

His practice routine had finally been catered to once again, and with proper tutoring and casual monitoring of a few of the other musicians the academy housed, Jaehyo was sure he was now a greater pianist he had ever been, and had often taken up adventuring himself to compose his own pieces. He also liked to believe he had a nice singing voice, but he had kept all of his pieces fully instrumental so far.

It definitely wasn't a surprise when at some point his music teacher established a group project between all of their students- something about learning from each other's experience or whatever. The project grade would be based on a composition by each group; the teacher insisted, however, that the real objective here was learning how to express emotions through their songs, rather than the actual composing. They would later choose themes for everyone, but for now the important thing was getting the groups formed.

All of the music-related classes would be partaking in the project, and to Jaehyo's delight, one couldn't be grouped up with their own classmates. Terrific, really. He barely knew anybody in his own class, and now he would have to awkwardly ask around for someone in the same situation. The music I students were hyped about working with music II ones, so by the time the werecat managed to plan an introduction speech, the entirety of that class, smaller in student number than the other two, had already been fully paired off.

As he certainly wasn't fond of this type of situations, he had hopes someone would offer him a partnership, but that didn't seem like happening any time soon. Sighing slightly, he moved his eyes over the unnaturally crowded classroom –it definitely wasn't meant for such a large number of students at once–, choosing himself a victim. Upon spotting a male who seemed to not have been approached yet, Jaehyo stood up, making his way towards the other and shooting him a smile when he was close enough to hear his words. Yeah, right. He wasn’t buying that. ”For bubble bath times certainly sounds like a delight, considering it comes from someone willing to burn things down for science.” He made sure to use the very same tone of sarcasm the other had used a few moments ago, nodding to agree to the idea. “If you have a thing for not having eyebrows, the least I could do for you is concede you that joy.” Jaehyo shrugged, smile on his features; this guy had a sense of humor, all right. It was a nice change from the heavy atmosphere he had encountered so far, so he felt the need to match a name to the new face. “I’m Jaehyo, by the way.”

“It’d be fun to watch and see what it burns.” He added with a half shrug. Not wanting to sound like a complete pyromaniac, Ian put the other substances down. “It’s all in the name of science. Well, Alchemy. We can just mark this down as… what? ‘To use during bubble bath times’? Or keep it simple?” As he contemplated the names, he did make a face. “Never too late to burn off my eyebrows you mean? You’re such a caring partner to me.” He joked making it full of sarcasm.

“For someone who wouldn’t share food with just anyone, you sure are willing to.” Jaehyo chuckled slightly at his eagerness to get moving, nodding his head as a reply and mirroring Ravi’s pace a few steps behind him, unfamiliar with the path the other was taking. He felt the need to map it out so he wouldn’t get lost on his way back, but that would certainly delay their plans, so he decided against it. He was curious to ask what kind of movies they’d be watching, but thought maybe it was better to find out in a few minutes. Unless... “We’re not watching horror movies, right?” He was quite the scaredy cat, indeed.

The smile alone was practically enough of a reply to the genie, a matching one appearing on his own lips. Finally someone who wouldn’t just leave him hanging, even if a stranger for now. That would be changed soon enough, he thought. Reaching out to shake the offered hand with a firm grip, he dipped his head in a polite little bow. “Ravi. Just Ravi. It’s nice to meet you, Jaehyo. Consider yourself as lucky, because I usually wouldn’t just share food with anyone.” Grinning, he took the lead towards his room, simply thinking that his new acquaintance would follow along, though he stopped after a moment to turn around to him once more. “So you’re coming, or-?”

Jaehyo ceased movement when Jin started explaining himself- He wanted to pay full attention, knowing every single word the other got out was important for interpretation. He made a mental list to follow Jin's line of thought throughly:

1. He's from a small town somewhere in Hokkaido;

2. He came to the academy because his parents were worried about his studies related to his race;

3. He was not a good kitsune...?

Jaehyo had to frown at the third one. He seemed nice enough, what could he mean by that? Was Jaehyo misinterpreting something here? It was clear in Jin's features that whatever it was, it was hard to transmit, be it for language barriers or perhaps because it was a difficult subject to approach. Jaehyo couldn't know, his knowledge on kitsunes as broad as your regular human’s: some uncanny fiction works here and there. He had wanted to ask, but maybe they should be keeping heavier conversations away from their first meeting.

Well, at least Jin’s previously pained expression brightened up immediately at the mention of... sushi. Wait, sushi? At this hour, sushi? This was definitely not your regular guy, that was for sure. Jaehyo couldn’t bring himself to deny his request though. He probably did have some leftover salmon, he could have a go at last-minute kimbap. Well, except with uncooked fish. More like makizushi with regular rice. The evening kept getting weirder and weirder, but the werecat appreciated the company nonetheless.

He had just begun checking around the fridge for ingredients when the other’s sudden silence made him look up- and the sight he got wasn’t one of the greatest. For whatever reason Jin was suddenly upset, and Jaehyo was unsure he could manage to do anything about it but give him food. So food it is. “We don’t have sushi. You are one lucky guy however, because I can manage something close to it. I just happen to be the best cook around.” Or at least he liked to believe so. The task was simple, but the other didn’t really need to know that- a little bragging couldn’t hurt.

Two weeks didn’t seem like such a long time to Jin. He pondered if other’s had been here longer. Did people come and go easily from a place like this? What if Jaehyo left quickly as well… Jin frowned a little at such a thought. Would this mean he shouldn’t allow himself even a small friendship with his room-mate? He didn’t want to make any hasty decisions so he would continue and see what would happen. Jin smiled and nodded at Jaehyo’s next question.

“From. Small… place.. uhh… town? Maybe… Japan. Hokkaido. Umm… Parents… Worried. I… Me don’t… Study well? Learn… Kitsune… From elders.” Jin struggled to say even this much, his brows coming together as he struggled to explain his situation. “I… not good Kitsune.” He held two fingers in front of him to make an ‘x’. How could he explain that he didn’t want to siphon the life force of others to stay alive? That the idea of killing someone else to stay alive… It repulsed and scared him. Flirting was fun, definitely, but anything more than that… 

However, his current energy levels could only be sustained by sleeping for so long. He would have to find someone else to… help him. 

At the sound of food he perked up, his sharp eyes watched Jaehyo move around and he nodded. His stomach joined in the agreement by rumbling. “Sushi?” His face was etched with expectation. Sushi was his favourite food and, while he did appreciate being told to try other things, sushi was the one food he could happily eat for the rest of his life. It was simple and delicious. Thinking of sushi made him think of home and for a second his tails drooped with sadness. What if he never passed and could never leave this place? Would his parents even cared if he came home.

Jin had been such a burden on them…
