An Introduction to the (Less Than) Wonderful Life of Me

Hi. My name is Jalen. No last name, because anonymity is a perfect blessing when you’re a gay teenager and nobody in your life knows.

I don’t necessarily know how to start this . . .

Well, first things first: I’m starting a blog. A Tumblr blog, because Tumblr is awesome and it’s filled with awesome people who’ll be more likely to relate to me. This blog is called “Dear 21st Century Diary,” because who actually writes in a tangible diary anymore? Who actually puts pen to paper anymore? Not me. So, to keep with the growing trends of technology and social media, this was made!

Why am I starting a blog? That’s a really loaded question. For one, I’m really really gay and really really scared to come out. This gives me a chance to vent and relay my thoughts to a public audience, while also being able to stay anonymous and safe from judgement and confrontation. I shouldn’t be scared of judgment and confrontation . . . but I am, and we’ll get to that at a later date. I don’t want to bury you people with my deepest darkest insecurities just yet. Secondly, I like the idea of someone finding this blog and maybe being able to relate, and maybe finding some sort of inspiration from me. Why would anyone want to get inspiration from me? I don’t know. But, it could happen. Maybe.

Also, the Divided States of America sucks, and I love to drag ugly people and politicians who make this world a miserable place for people like me.

So. Now that that’s out of the way. Who is Jalen? Who am I? I think it’s pretty weird to relegate an entire existence to a few sentences, but I’ll try my best. Nobody will want to follow me if they don’t even know who I am.

Let’s do this in style! I’ll tell my likes, dislikes, hobbies, and dreams for the future. If you’re a major Naruto fan like me, you’ll have immediately caught the reference. If not, you should definitely watch Naruto. It used to be my entire life, and even now it still holds great significance and happiness for me.

Likes/Hobbies: I like food. I eat when I’m sad, which is a lot. (My relatability points are out of the park, I know.) I like music (Halsey, Sia, Queen Beyoncé, Rihanna, and so on and so forth), and I like watching TV and Netflix and Anime (Naruto, Riverdale, The Fosters, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Dear White People, The Get Down, Gintama, My Hero Academia, etc.), and I like sleeping. This might sound sad, but sleep is a great escape from the ignorance of the world. I also like literature to a great extent; the power of words is something that is very, very underestimated. I have far too many books that I could recommend, so just message me if you need some! I also write a lot, but that’s also something for another day.

Dislikes: Jesus Christ, there are so many things that I could put here. I dislike so many things, it’s not even funny. Let’s start with Donald Trump and the entire Republican Party, because those dipshits are evil and nothing and nobody will tell me any different. Donald Trump looks like orange oatmeal and I hate him. Mike Pence can catch these words too, but just thinking about him is unpleasant, so I won’t. Just know that he’s just as evil. I don’t like vegetables and “healthy” food (I blame my mother and society). I hate homophobic people, and I hate racist people, and I just hate anything and anyone that discriminates against another group for being who they are. And unless you’re a very close friend, I hate talking on the phone. JUST TEXT ME. IT’S NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO JUST TEXT ME, DAMN.

Dreams for the Future: I really hope that I live long enough to see “George Zimmerman has passed away.” That’s a definite dream of mine. Donald Trump’s impeachment (and hopefully his arrest) would also be a pretty awesome thing to see. I want to become a New York Times Bestselling Author in the future, so that’s also a dream that’s very near to my heart. I also hope that this world can be a bit better in accepting people that are different from them. On a personal note, I hope that I’ll somehow find the strength to come out to my friends and family, and that they’ll be accepting.

I don’t know what else to type. As I thought, this doesn’t feel complete at all. Introductions are hard. If you managed to read this far, though, nice to meet you! Hopefully you’ll follow and stick around for the shit show that is Jalen.
