Dance with My Father Luther Vandross
Back when I was a child Before life removed all the innocence My father would lift me high And dance with my mother and me And then Spin me around ‘till I fell asleep Then up the stairs he would carry me And I knew for sure I was lovedIf I could get another chance Another walk Another dance with him I’d play a song that would never ever end How I’d love love love To dance with my father againWhen I and my mother Would disagree To get my way I would run From her to him He’d make me laugh just to comfort me yeah yeah Then finally make me do Just what my mama said Later that night when I was asleep He left a dollar under my sheet Never dreamed that he Would be gone from meIf I could steal one final glance One final step One final dance with him I’d play…
Dance with My Father is a song performed by renowned American singer Luther Vandross. The song is purely autobiographical and talks about nothing but Vandross’ happy childhood memories of growing up with his father and how he wished he could relive those happy moments once again. The song’s lyrics mention a number of some of these happy moments that Vandross had with his father and mother, the most memorable of which were the times when his father would carry him high and dance with him and his mother – a memory that inspired the song’s title.
All in all, Vandross wrote this song as a heartfelt tribute to his beloved father who died of diabetes when Vandross was only just about seven years old.
With help from Richard Marx, Luther Vandross wrote this song shortly after he suffered a stroke that eventually killed him two years later. The song is a tribute to his late father, and very poignant as it was one of Luther’s last songs. His father died when he was young, and Luther’s most poignant memory of his dad was him dancing in the house with his kids, which is where the idea concept of “Dance With My Father” came from.Marx and Vandross had collaborated in the past: Luther sang backup on Marx’ 1991 hit “Keep Coming Back,” and the pair wrote “Isn’t There Someone” for Luther’s 1998 album I Know. One of the reasons Vandross asked Marx to work on this song was because Richard lost his father in 1997 and could understand the feeling he was trying to convey. This won the Grammy awards for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Song Of The Year, and the album also won for Best R&B Album. At the awards ceremony in 2004, Marx felt bittersweet accepting the Song Of The Year award, as Vandross couldn’t be there because of his illness. This song has appeared on several tributes to Vandross, including So Amazing recorded shortly after Vandross’ death. Celine Dion recorded it for the album because she had also lost her father. >>This returned to the UK Top 40 in 2009 after a performance by Joseph McElderry in the televised auditions for the sixth series of the music talent show The X Factor.

Earth (Lil Dicky song)
What up, world? It’s your boy, just one of the guys down here Well, I could be more specific Uh, I’m a human, and I just wanted to, you know For the sake of all of us earthlings out there Just wanted to say:We love the Earth, it is our planet We love the Earth, it is our home We love the Earth, it is our planet We love the Earth, it is our homeHi, I’m a baboon I’m like a man, just less advanced and my anus is hugeHey, I’m a zebra No one knows what I do, but I look pretty cool Am I white or black?I’m a lion cub, and I’m always getting licked (Meow!)How’s it going? I’m a cow (Moo!) You drink milk from my tits (Moo)I’m a fat, fucking pigI’m a common fungusI’m a disgruntled skunk, shoot you out my buttholeI’m a marijuana plant, I can get you fucked upAnd…
“Earth” is a song by American rapper Lil Dicky It was released on April 19, 2019, three days prior to Earth Day. All proceeds from the song will be donated to different environmental charities after collaboration with the Leonardo DiCaprio
Background
On April 19, 2019, Dicky took to Twitter to announce the release of a new song the following week. It was also reported that Justin Bieber would return to music as a guest feature on a new Lil Dicky song ] Bieber confirmed the collaboration on Twitter a few days later.
Some of the lyrics are references to the artists portraying them, such as Ariana Grande portraying a zebra (“Am I white or black”, referencing her controversies surrounding cultural appropriation), Zac Brown playing a cow (referencing the country stereotype of cowboys), Snoop Dogg playing a marijuana plant (referencing his habit of marijuana use), Sia playing a kangaroo (referencing her Australian heritage), among many others.
According to Lil Dicky, the abrupt appearance of Kanye West is because he originally intended West to portray himself rather than an animated animal since he was a huge fan of West. However, he couldn’t get in contact with West, but instead of replacing West’s role, they kept him in with Kevin Hart voice acting him.
Music video
On April 17, Dicky released a preview of the video that was released the following day. Co-directed by Nigel Tierney of Emmy-winning studio RYOT (the studio that made Behind the Fence VR), Federico Heller of 3Dar (the studio that made Uncanny Valley), Oddbot Animation, and Iconic Engine, the music video features the voices of 30 celebrities and singer-songwriters, including Sia, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Halsey, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brendon Urie, Charlie Puth, Snoop Dogg, Miley Cyrus, among others. Most celebrities represent a different type of animal or plant.Meghan Trainor, Joel Embiid, Tory Lanez, John Legend, Psy, Bad Bunny, Kris Wu and Backstreet Boys are not seen in the video. Kevin Hart is a substitute for Kanye West, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s character re-enacts a scene from the 1997 film Titanic. The video concludes with Dicky proclaiming that DiCaprio knows more about the Earth and “how we’re fucking it up” than anybody, and with DiCaprio saying that the track might be his “favorite song ever”. The video begins (in live-action), with a news report about the hot climate change around Los Angeles County, then comes into a polluted street corner near Downtown Los Angeles where a young boy is being bullied by a group of older boys and shoved into a trash can. Lil Dicky appears and reprimands the bullies as they run away, and the young boy then finds a book and opens it revealing an animated jungle with a cartoon version of Dicky wearing a Tarzanstyle outfit as the celebrity guests sing their verses portrayed as their characters. In the rap verse, the book shows a cameo of Lil Dicky with Maui from the 2016 Disney film Moana. The film clip includes explicit language (except clean version).

You Belong with Me
“You Belong with Me” is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. The song was written by Swift and Liz Rose and produced by Nathan Chapman and Swift. It was released on April 18, 2009, by Big Machine Recordsas the third single from Swift’s second studio album, Fearless (2008). Swift was inspired to write “You Belong with Me” after overhearing a male friend of hers arguing with his girlfriend through a phone call; she continued to develop a story line afterward. The song contains many pop music elements and its lyrics have Swift desiring an out-of-reach love interest.
The song won Favorite song at the 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards, and received nominations at the 2010 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. “You Belong with Me” enjoyed commercial success as well; it became a top ten hit in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. In the United States, the song became Swift’s highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time and has become Swift’s third best-selling single. It managed to gain the largest crossover radio audience since Faith Hill’s “Breathe” did in 2000. The single was certified 7× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The song is one of the best-selling singles worldwide, with worldwide sales of more than 7 million units (according to the IFPI).
The song’s accompanying music video was directed by Roman White. The video featured Swift portraying two characters, a nerd (the protagonist and narrator) and a popular girl (the antagonist and girlfriend), while American actor Lucas Tillportrayed the male lead. The video’s plot centers on the protagonist secretively loving the male lead, although he has a girlfriend. The video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, but during Swift’s acceptance speech, rapper Kanye Westinterrupted, protesting in support of Beyoncé. The incident caused a reaction in the media, with many coming to Swift’s defense. The song was performed live at numerous venues, including the 2009–10 Fearless Tour, where it was the opening number. It has been covered by various artists, including Butch Walker and Selena Gomez & the Scene, and parodied by “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Background
Swift became inspired to write “You Belong with Me” after she overheard a male friend of hers speaking to his girlfriend on the phone. He acted defensive as his girlfriend yelled at him, and said to her, “No, baby…I had to get off the phone really quickly… I tried to call you right back… Of course I love you. More than anything! Baby, I’m so sorry." Out of the sympathy she felt towards him in the situation, Swift developed a concept for a song.In a writing session with co-writer Liz Rose, Swift explained the situation along with her idea and conceived the song’s opening line, "You’re on the phone with your girlfriend / she’s upset / she’s going off about something that you said." Together, they developed a story line, which described Swift being in love with the male friend and her having the desire for him to break up with his current girlfriend for her. Swift described the song’s concept as "basically about wanting someone who is with this girl who doesn’t appreciate him at all. Basically like ’girl-next-door-itis.’ You like this guy who you have known for your whole life, and you know him better than she does but somehow the popular girl gets the guy every time." Swift recalled, "It was really fun for us to write the line, ‘She wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts’.”“You Belong with Me” was first released as a promotional single from Fearless on November 4, 2008, as part of Countdown to Fearless, an exclusive campaign by the iTunes Store;the song was then released as the third single from Fearless on April 18, 2009.
Composition
“You Belong with Me” is a country pop song with a length of three minutes and 52 seconds.According to Kate Kiefer of Pastemagazine, it is “a straight-up pop song." The song is set in common time and has a moderate tempo of 130 beats per minute. It is written in the key of F♯ major and Swift’s vocals spans a little below two octaves, from F#3 to C#5. Swift hints at her country music background in the banjo-inflected introduction of the song. Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly felt Swift’s vocals were light and twangy while the melody was "lilting”. It follows the chord progression F♯ –C♯–G♯m-B. The instrumentationconsists of clucking banjos alongside new wave electric guitars.
The lyrics to “You Belong with Me” alternate between narrative modes, where she speaks of herself, a male friend whom she has an unrequited crush on, and his girlfriend. Greenblatt described Swift’s role as a storyteller, the song being a narrative set to music, which describes concerning about love and boys “just [being] very hard to catch”. Craig Rosen of The Hollywood Reporter believes “You Belong with Me”’s plot is “confessional” and regards scenarios themed with high school, while Swift “is the girl next door who’s had her heart broken and takes refuge in music”. Lucy Davies of the BBC noted, “Swift deals in the prosaic imagery of high school boys”.In one verse, Swift contrasts herself with her friend’s girlfriend and states, “She wears high heels, I wear sneakers / She’s cheer captain, I’m on the bleachers”, which Davies interpreted as the song’s protagonist feeling envy towards cheerleaders, in particular, the one dating her male friend. In the choruses, Swift attempts “to persuade some boy to come to his senses and submit to her everygirl charms”
Awards and nominations
At the 52nd Grammy Awards, “You Belong with Me” received nominations for three awards. The song received a nomination for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year but lost to Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” (2008), for the Grammy Award for Record of the Year but lost to Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” (2008), and for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance but lost to Beyoncé’s “Halo” (2009).“You Belong with Me” won Favorite Song at the 2010 Kids Choice Awards and was nominated for Song of the Year at the 45th Academy of Country Music Awards, but lost to Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” (2009). Although “You Belong with Me” did not receive an award for any of the nominations it received at the 52nd Grammy Awards, Swift did win album of the year for Fearless, which the song was a part of.

Lyrically, “What Do You Mean?” describes not being able to figure out the opposite sex.
It was featured in several year-end lists of best songs of 2015. Commercially, the song topped the charts in several countries, including Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Norway. In Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, “What Do You Mean?” was Bieber’s first number-one single. Background
After releasing “Where Are Ü Now” with Skrillex and Diplo for their project Jack Ü and achieving worldwide success and acclaim with it, Bieber announced “What Do You Mean?” as the first single from his then-upcoming album on July 28, 2015 on On Air With Ryan Seacrest. While he was there, his manager, Scooter Braun, made Seacrest a promotional sign for the single to hold and suggested he should put the photo on his Instagram account. To further promote the song’s release, Braun contacted several celebrities who started counting down the days until the release, among them Mariah Carey, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Big Sean, Alanis Morissette, Meghan Trainor, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Little Mix, Chris Martin, Carly Rae Jepsen, and many others. During an interview with Ryan Seacrest, he described it as “fun”, “summery”, and “amazing.” Regarding its lyrics he commented: “Well, girls are often just flip-floppy. They say something and they mean something else. So … what do you mean? I don’t really know, that’s why I’m asking.” Later, on August 19, 2015, Bieber direct-messaged different lyrics from the song to 49 randomly selected Twitter followers. As explained by Billboard’s Jason Lipshutz, “Each message included a clock animation with a different time that corresponded to the lyric’s placement in the song, and Beliebers spent Wednesday collectively piecing together the upcoming single’s lyrics in order." On August 5, 2015, Bieber presented the song to radio professionals at an iHeartMedia event.

The song was released on August 28, 2015,and was serviced to contemporary hit radio on September 1, 2015. On October 16, 2015, it was revealed that a remix of the song with Ariana Grande would be made available if fans pre-ordered the album on iTunes.
On January 8, 2016, the official remix by Alison Wonderland was released on online.
Composition
"What Do You Mean?” was written by Justin Bieber, Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd and Mason Levy.It was produced by MdL and co-produced by Bieber. It was initially speculated by the media that Skrillex produced “What Do You Mean?”. However, a spokesperson for Bieber confirmed in an interview for Rolling Stone that the song was produced by Bieber, and MdL who had previously collaborated with the singer on his single “Boyfriend” (2012). Written in the key of A♭ major, it has an upbeat tempo of 125 beats per minute. Bieber’s vocal range spans from the low-note of F3 to the high note of G5.[ It is a pop and tropical house song.
During the song, Bieber uses a breathy vocal, which was considered “smooth and soulful." The production contains flute instrumentation, looped vocal samples, piano chords, tropical synths, bass and "slick beat” elements with the sound of a clock ticking. Gil Kaufman of MTV News wrote that the track contains “a slippery flute-like trill over a spare tick-tock island groove and a super chill vibe”, and is “a kind of sequel” to Skrillex and Diplo’s “Where Are Ü Now”, which featured Bieber.
Lyrically, “What Do You Mean?” talks about looking for romantic clarity and not being able to figure out the opposite sex, with Bieber singing in the chorus: “What do you mean / When you nod your head yes, but you wanna say no? / What do you mean / When you don’t want me to move, but you tell me to go?
