The one and only Wayne Rooney. England, Everton, Manchester Utd, Everton and now stateside playing for DC United. Wayne didn’t say much during the shoot. He was nice, polite and cooperative though for the 30 minutes I had him for.The shoot ended with my main soft box catching fire 🔥 due to touching one of the ceiling lights in the room we were using at Old Trafford. Quickly sorted with no real harm done. Ive been a fan of The Pogues since hearing my sister play Rum, Sodomy & the Lash when I was 15 years old so I jumped when I was asked to shoot Shane for @qthemusic magazine. My wife was 9 months pregnant with my son at the time so I wanted to be in and out asap and turned up nice and early for the shoot. When the agreed time came and went I explained my predicament to Shane’s manager (also his wife) who said that he was still asleep (it was 11am). My options were wait or shoot him in bed she said. I decided to opt for the latter. When I knocked on the door Ian let me in, cleared the many empty bottles, wraps of white powder and bottles of pills from his bed, racked up two lines of speed (one for him and one for me if I wanted one ( no obviously)) and got back in bed. This is the result. Freeway Rick Ross. Not the overweight ex-screw rapper, the 80s South Central King Pin of the Crack Cocaine business. I spent the afternoon in Compton LA with Rick not long after he was released from prison, where he taught himself to read and write and learnt enough law to get his sentence quashed on a technicality. Rick is pretty much to blame for inventing Ready Rock or Crack Cocaine as we know it today. The late, great Keith Flint. I spent the day with Keith a few years back at Oulton Park. He was racing in a national endurance series on GSXR1000s. Despite the wet conditions Keith and his team mate managed top spot on the podium that day. We chatted loads that day. In the garage, in the pit lane and over lunch. We did talk about music briefly but mostly we riffed about bikes. That man could talk all day about motorcycles which suits me as I can too. Keith was nice, chilled, the opposite of his onstage persona which is so often the case. RIP Mr Flint. One of a kind.
