thinking about webster/liebgott and eye contact. webster and his assessing eyes. liebgott and his critical ones. they miss nothing and yet are always avoiding each others gaze, even as their gazes follow each other.

the fact that liebgott can hardly even look at webster when he returns at haguenau. doesn’t ever meet webster’s eyes when he’s declaring he must’ve liked that hospital. then when he’s trying to find out what webster knows, it’s webster that cannot meet his eyes, even as liebgott drags him over. even after your secrets safe web.

then of course there’s berchtesgaden, where they are almost forced to make eye contact to try to get their points across. even then it’s touch and go, with webster pulling away at the end. these guys, one of them always trying to connect in some way or another. and yet, fearing that very thing at other moments.

there’s a lot to discuss but this always sticks out to me.
