D7- Art & My Life Final Paper
Coming into this art class I did not know what to expect. In my last experiences of regular GE classes it is usually in the format of any regular english or math class. Where there are exams and assessments we have to take throughout the year. And in my opinion I do not think that students should be learning in that format. I think we should be more hands on and take the time to fully understand the information given rather than being thrown into an exam. I think our knowledge shouldn’t be based on assessments or any given exam, I believe that students learn and gain more knowledge by doing.
During the first couple weeks of school we had one project and that was creating a hand out of sand and water at the beach. I have never had a class in college where we did an art activity outside of school. And doing that really made me rethink if this was more than just a regular GE. Throughout the course of the semester students were given a project each week based on a specific topic about art. Whether if it was about free speech or just a free day, students were able to create different forms of art with no limits! I think this type of class is great just because it’s more hands on and students are able to learn visually. Other than creating art pieces each week we were given an art gallery presentation. We had the freedom to choose what type of gallery we wanted to present to the class and we had the opportunity to create our own designed website. This project was really great because it wasn’t structured as a lot of given projects and presentations. Art in my opinion is about creativity and expressing your ideas about art through you. Being able to have endless freedom when it came to presentations and projects really expressed the true idea about art.
Throughout the semester I learned a lot about the idea of art. It is not just creating a random drawing, it all stems from you and your  personal experiences and what is in your mind. Generally when I get assigned an art project I just think about making the art without any consideration. But from actually experiencing it I was able to create more meaningful yet beautiful pieces of artwork. What I also learned was to use different techniques of art. When looking into the art galleries each week, we had many artists with very different styles of art. From being exposed to numerous styles of art and different techniques I was able to learn much more than I anticipated.
Art isn’t only used if you are an art major or just taking a required General Ed class. It used even in your career, your daily life and if you just want to make art in general. For me I love hosting parties for holidays and having to do that there is a lot of creativity involved. Being able to put colors together to create a theme and planning the set up is all art! Also being able to establish the meaning and the theme all stems from art. Spending so much money on premade decorations are great and easy. But when you actually construct your own decorations it becomes more meaningful and personal to not only yourself but to others. I feel like art has the ability to open people's eyes to a new perspective. As a business major at Long Beach, all of my classes are all math based or business oriented. But working in a business full time art does fall into play. Whether if it is creating ideas about how to make your business more presentable or even having meetings and displaying charts etc. They all come from art and your own personal creativity. Seeing art and how you are able to use it basically anywhere is great because you are able to bring your own personal experiences and have people join in on that.
Overall this class did teach me more about art than I expected. It also taught me to really look deeper into my mind and find my creative side because everyone has one. It also taught me that art has a lot of thought and meaning to it. Art has the ability to make others feel what you are feeling and create a reality for them if they even relate to that sort of art. After this class I am going to to my art of knowledge elsewhere and apply to my daily life as well as apply it to my career when I know I need it. I think art sparks a great amount of vibrance and really helps make things more fun. I enjoyed unwrapping my creative side of art and being able to express my life experiences in a fun creative way.

D7- SOA Gallery Conversations
Andrea Rascol is a Cal State Long Beach student that is in the Art Program. She will be continuing her passion outside of CSULB this spring as a graduate. Rascol is in the drawing and painting program, and as you look into her you see that she expresses her ideas through painting on canvases. Her goal with her art is bringing upon the reality of our lives and create it with shapes and bright colors and put them on a canvas.
As you look at Andreas canvas you see that she has multiple shapes colors and a lot of things going on in her canvas. The colors used were black, green, yellow, brown, white and pink. Some of the techniques I seen her use in her art are a lot of rhythms as well as shapes to display particular images that I think displays her meaning. She does use staccato technique where she connects different things that are supposed to go together. Other than the fact she's uses a staccato technique I can see that she also used a jagged technique as well, Rascol does incorporate multiple uneven edges or uneven quantities of something.  When you look at her picture you can see that the leaves she drew are very different in size and somewhat if you look closely shape. Finally another technique she uses was  texture. As you look at her image she has a TV displayed and it looks like a wall behind the TV. To show that it was a wall she made pieces of tile and made the tile very textured to show what it was.
Reading and Talking to Andrea about her art she explains that she wanted the audience to see a different point of view of reality. She also was very inspired by things she sees and things she has taken from her own personal reality. What idea she used to make this piece was the fact that our society has such a fond connection with TV and the social aspects of it and the life of virtuality. Because essentially our TV’s laptops that we stream our shows from is all virtual. When asked why was there so many different objects being thrown on a canvas, she explains that she grabbed many different scenes from TV and combined them all into one canvas. She combines all these different objects together to make a series and be able to reflect her experiences by watching different shows. She also explains that she chose to be vague and ominous about the techniques she used such as the shapes, colors and even the objects. I asked her how she was able to create such great texture and she explained that using acrylic paint, ink and oil to create such textures. Rascol’s overall idea  was to display to the audience the difference of what is real and what is not and that there is such a disconnection from the natural world and television.
Looking at Andrea’s art I can see that it does display her meaning of seeing the difference between what is real and what is not real. Her creating a TV and displaying certain images to show the audience that they are watching a TV screen really explained a lot. I think I can relate to this alot because I am always constantly thinking about the unrealistic world which in a sense I see is social media and everything else with it to our reality. I also was able to see what she was coming from with her meaning because I feel like people tend to live in a non  realist version of their lives to escape their actual one because of many different factors. Having a non realistic reality is a big part of people's lives (e.g. social media, instagram) and we need to be more knowledgeable of what is real and what is not.

D7- Optional Class Feedback
1. I think the format of the class was great, it was laid out by specifics and it made it easy for us students to navigate as well as plan ahead throughout the course of the semester.
2. Making and presenting my Art Gallery was a great experience. Considering the fact that our entire group really worked together to incorporate ideas to our presentation. I was a little nervous to present my Art Gallery but I spent so much time on my artist that I really had a confident and better understanding helping me present.
3. Visiting the SOA Art Galleries was actually a great add on to the class. Being able to see other students art and have them be able to present it was cool to experience.
4. The weekly art activities was fun, instead of it being a boring class we were able to sprout our ideas and creativity and make unique pieces of art at home. I think this was a great idea to incorporate to this class.
5. My opinion on the 7 ideas about Art was that it was really fun just because we were able to use themes and explore our creativity and create some cool art.
6.I’ve only used tumblr once or twice as a teen, and knowing its platform it made it easy for me to add my posts and etc. I really like the idea of students creating a tumblr because considering that it a social platform we are able to look at other classmates activities and see their ideas.
7. Using Wix for our virtual art gallery was a very simple for me, Wix is a very simple platform and it was very easy to navigate it tools to create the website. It was also great because it provided so many options to add different tools and pictures and backgrounds.
8. At the beginning of the semester I was sort of thrown off at the fact we were not using beachboard just because I am used to every professor using it. But getting more into the class I did get used to it just because I feel like it was more in depth and it provided more examples than usual. I think Beachboard in my head is more of “here are your grades” while having a seperate site made it not seem like that.
9. Having a class with no test was a relief in my opinion, I also really appreciate it just because we were able to focus on the actual idea of art not just the standard class of taking test trying to achieve a grade.
10. Some thoughts for future classes is to have everyone get to know each other at the first couple days. I feel like since we have projects that do require help from classmates so if we do know each other a little better that will make it easier for the quiet students to ask for help (: But all in all this class was a great experience even though it is a GE I really appreciate Glenn making it unique and fun!!

D6- Ashley Rhyme Art Gallery
Ashely Rhyme is a senior at Cal State Long Beach studying illustration. She has always been interested in art since she was a child. Rhyme explains that she doesn’t care about the money she only cares about the fact that she is pursuing her passion. She is very interested in printmaking and acrylic painting which is what is shown throughout most of her art. She took a General Ed class in Europe which helped her explore her ideas with her art in the gallery. As you can see in her art, she does incorporate the ideas and the culture from Greece where she spent studying there for over a month.
The two pieces that I am going to be focused on is the 2 pieces that are inspired by her trip to Greece. The first piece that I am going to be explaining is the green piece of art. She used french newspaper which gives the impression of it being authentic and cultural. Her piece has a lot of texture to it because of the crumbles and lines on the piece. Her art also has a lot of rhythm to it because it has many repetition of lines and shapes. As you look closely she incorporates a lot of lines on the face of the individual to show wrinkles and minor detail with just the technique of rhythm. Her other piece does the same thing, she incorporates a lot of lines in the face to show rhythm and texture without adding minor details. You can see in the picture that it is a greek man and with the colors she used as well incorporates that idea too. She uses black, orange and yellow for her piece. In a sense her art is also undulating there are many undulating lines that look like a wavelike motion.
What Ashely was trying to explore is the greek life she experienced when she went to continue her passion for art. She wanted to create art for the time she was there because it was such a big change in her life. When I asked her why creating these greek pieces was such a big deal to create, she explained that her experience changed her life. Rhyme told me that Greece was such a life changing experience and that the culture the environment and everything really was just an inspiration for her. She also said that the fact that she got to experience this and be able to pursue her passion in this environment really changed her life.
I think that her art was a great representation of her experience in Greece. Her being able to create these experiences and bring them to life is what a real life art is about. I am actually really infatuated by Greece life and I want to experience being in that culture. So being able to look at the art and immediately resonate from what she is trying to explain really shows that she got her message out. I think she presented the greek life accordingly and really resonates with her experiences in creating her art career.

D5- The Wedge
For the Wedge I decided to take out a couple things regarding making room for a walkway. I think it will be way better just considering that it won't be so crowded and students don’t have to stress out about making it to class on time because they are waiting for other students to pass by that little entrance. In a year from now I see students really appreciating the changes and I think that many will forget the wedge being there because they are more focused on where they are trying to go rather than having something in the way. And since that it’s gone they won’t be thinking about it.  I added a little sign that said welcome to CSULB so it doesn’t look so plain and empty. I still wanted to add some life to it (:

D5- Architecture Affords Activity
Deanna M Falxone is a Cal State University of Long Beach Student attending the art program. The specific program she is in is the Drawing and Painting Program. Ideally Falxone focuses on acrylic paint and mixed media collage which is a watercolor technique. You can see this type of techniques are being used specifically in the gallery art she presented. She has a huge passion for creating art that speaks to her and gives out a message and you will be able to see that in her works.
When you come up close to her artwork you can see she uses a lot of watermark color techniques. She used a dark background so for when she added watercolors it would stand out and be more visible for the viewer. If you look a little closer you can see that there is a ton of texture present. It seems like as if she put it over sandpaper to give it a rough type of look. The art looks sinuous because there are so many curves and somewhat wavelike paint on her art. What I also noticed in her artwork is that if you looked at it from afar it looks very undulating because it has a wavelike motion and there is a smoothing and rising technique.
Deanna’s art is very unique in my opinion. I had a chance to talk to her and read a little bit more about what her art is about. She ideally wanted to explore the depths of identity, and wanting to connect her past with the present moments. Each part of the art explains something from her personal history and that within the art there are codes and symbols that explore that. She wanted to explore the calligraphic freehand as you can see is presented somewhat in her art. She got some of her inspiration from Mark Tobey, Cy Twombly, Lee Kranser and even Eva Hesse. These artists all created art without conscious thought and that is what Deanna wanted to represent. She wanted to present past without thinking about and create it with a freehand.
Reading and talking to Deanna about her art made me really understand where she was coming from. She wanted to present her art by bringing up her past but by using a technique to make it more unique. Just like the artists that she mentioned they all practice the technique of creating art without basically thinking about the fact that they are making art. And I think that is where the beauty comes in. She wanted to represent her past and by using that technique she was really able to account for that. I think that is such a unique way to create art because your unconscious mind bring about things outside our conscious awareness.

D4-EC Aaron Swartz
Aaron Swartz was born smart you could say. He was born in a household of 3 siblings all being boys. As a kid he learned at a very fast pace, learning the alphabet as well as learning algebra and being eager to teach his siblings everything. He had a mindset of knowing what he wanted and he would accomplish his goals. What intrigued him as a child was the internet, because growing up that is when the internet started to spark and new technologies were developed. He developed his first program by creating a trivia game at the age of 12 as well as creating a program called infobase. At the age of 12 he created a program that now we can call wikipedia.
At such a young age he was able to perform and create things that people would take years to accomplish. He didn’t like school, he believed that you could teach yourself and that the government set up this whole structure which made him question a lot of things.
He attended Stanford University even though he didn’t believe in the idea of school. He was put into a program that he felt was a babysitting program because it technically was a class for overachiever students that passed highschool less than 4 years. He got offered a job for Paul Graham for a company called Y Combinator in 2005. Because of this he dropped his scholarship from Stanford University and moved to Boston to pursue this new journey. After he joined that company he joined and hopped onto Reddit which became huge. At the age of 19 Aaron was making over a million dollars with his intelligent and unique young brain.
Swartz got involved in a lot of incidents because of his strong concerns of what he believed in.
Since he has more technical capabilities than a lot of people so he was able to do. In 2011 he was indicted by a Federal grand jury and was charged with wire fraud and computer fraud. They were claiming that he was stealing over 20 billion documents through his computer but many opposers say that it isn’t a form of stealing bc there is no damage done. Aaron was just trying to make a point. And because of that he was always under the radar, and the FBI was always after him. He was very afraid that if he just left his house to just do his laundry, he would be attacked or broken into by the FBI.
Aaron thought he could change the world by being politically active and explaining the world very clearly by expressing his free speech. But for him doing that seemed like a threat to many people, especially the government. He was seen on the news and many seminars explaining his views and thoughts. Even though he was put in confinement and had a case on him with many charges, he still tried to make a change. From all the amounts of stress and pressure that was circling around him because of the many different parties that wanted to attack him in a way really put him in a toll. They took all of his money that he worked hard for away simply because he was telling the truth about many different things. They wanted to use Aaron Swartz as an example by putting him thru many atrocities so they can scare others that wanted to move forward with the same political actions he took. Swartz wanted to overcome a law that he saw was unjust but the government took that as a threat. He was going through a lot of pain because of what the government was putting him through and he soon became depressed because of all the pressure. Aaron took his life at 26 years old, and many think it had to do with the government just because he wanted to make a political stance.

D4- Art Is a lot  about Speech
I chose this piece to draw to represent how I feel like our country feels about what is going on with racism, the president and other factors that have been negative in our country. Our president for example is a very racist individual and our country is supposed to represent equality and freedom. But because the dilema we have with this a lot of people don’t have trust in our country. I think I was pretty successful in my idea of what I wanted to show. I wanted to show a burning flag because it shows the firey aspect of how heated our country is. What I would do differently is probably add a hand holding the flag putting it in the fire.

D4- Free Speech is more important than free beer
Katie is a Cal State University of Long Beach student that is currently in our art program. This is their last year as an art student in the CSULB community. She spent many months constructing and making this piece so personal since it is very close to home. The artist is a study abroad student from China and came to the United States 10 years ago. She explained her struggles to adapt to our culture and lifestyle. She also mentioned that she left her childhood and a lot of her memories as being a single child in the household and shows a representation of her childhood she misses through her artwork.
The art piece is a very realistic perceptions about the artists childhood. I think the artists obligation was to represent real life occurrences that has happened in their life. As you can see in the picture you can see that they used a lot of fine silver and sterling silver. In a sense there is a lot of texture the artist shows in his art. Making it look very realistic by using life size pieces to make the viewer understand where they are coming from. The artist also uses a technique to make art look like a reality in my opinion.
The art piece represents a reflection of the artists childhood. Bringing back memories from when they lived in China and how the journey was from living in the US vs living in china. The incorporations of memories from their childhood represent in the art really make the observer think how their childhood was. The artist also added childhood like additions to the sculpture. For example they added some glasses to the fish to make it look more playful and childlike. I think what they wanted to show their audience is how their childhood was like, because since they are from a different country they do have different interests and different customs compared to us. I also think that they wanted to give us a scoop on the idea of their culture in China versus in the United States since they are very two different diverse cultures.
The art really did resonate with me. After reading the background information on what the artist was trying to accomplish and what they were trying to show really caught my eye. When you start to grow up you have to leave things behind and start to mature as an adult and that is what I think I got from their piece. The idea of showing little snippets of one's childhood and how you can reflect and look back on how you were as a child vs now is what I took from it. In the background information that the artist provided talked about how they moved from China to the United States and had to become an adult and become independent very quickly. The art is a great representation of childhood like memories that you keep with you forever even as you start to mature as an adult and we still have that kid in us.

ART 110
24 October 2019
Charlie Roses is a senior at the University of Cal State Long Beach. It is currently her last semester and is wrapping up her last semester in the  CSULB’s art program. She is a student in the School of Art’s Drawing & Painting Program. As you can see through most of her art she doesn’t just primarily focus on just drawing and painting, she is also focuses on sculpture, print, photography and illustration. Roses explained that art has been her passion since she could remember. She said that she was drawing since she was 2 years old and that is what inspired her to pursue her passion. Charlie’s art soon progressed into being primarily dark like images, she is a big fan of horror and Halloween, which is why her art displays some dark looking images.
As you look at Charlie’s art as mentioned she goes for a dark spooky type theme. The use of color and dark tones exhibit that inspiration. In the gallery she presented three pieces; two being drawings and one being a sculpture all showing her dark side of the art. The first piece she created was a monster looking human head that looks really evil on a candlestick. And as you look closely at the image you can see how she used a lot of lead to incorporate shading and just an overall grey/black theme to give the mood of the image. She used a couple techniques in her art such as scale, making normal like images be represented by their actual size. The candle holder is a great example for scale. Another technique used was rhythm, there were many lines that were in her drawing that gave a lot of flow and rhythm to the objects. Roses other picture was a pumpkin with fire and black birds. She did use water paint and colors that didn’t make the image seem as dark as her other piece, but she added many minor details to still obtain that horror theme. This piece has a sinuous look in my opinion, because if you look closely at the fire there is a wavy type sequence happening. Her last piece was a sculpture there wasn’t much technique she used, but I do know that she did want to incorporate a dark horror look so she added webs, scary books and many Halloween props.
I had a chance to speak with Charlie and she explained to me where she got her inspiration from and why she wanted to make her art this specific theme. She mentioned to me that she is intrigued with horror movies and dark things. Which is where her art stemmed from, as you can see she uses a lot of inspiration from horror movies that she has watched such as BeetleJuice, Hush, Nightmare on Elm Street and so much more. She also gets some of her inspiration from vintage tattoo designs which you can see she does incorporate that style into her art. The theme of the gallery this week was halloween themed, which surely and most definitely fit her theme.
I think that her inspiration from the horror movies do show through her art. When you approach the art in a sense you can feel the darkness within. Another factor I came to notice was that art can sometimes bring you back to a time or even an event in your life. Her art did not necessarily bring me back to a time and place but it did remind me of halloween and any horror movies that I’ve seen.  Horror can look different to everyone based on their perspective of what it looks like to them. I think that is what Charlie wanted to incorporate with her 3 different pieces of art, because everyone has a different representation of “Scary” or even “horror”. And it is really up to the viewer to take their own representation of scary art.

D2- Zine Activity
1. My goal for my zine is to express beauty. essentially expressing everyones beauty in all types and all forms. I feel like my end product of my zine really expresses the idea of beauty and how there is beauty in essentially in everything and it is just in your point of view.
2. next time i think i would add more pages that i think represent beauty not just individuals.
3. In the future i think i would make many different zines, essentially i would explore my identity and add more pages because I feel like I have a lot to express about myself.

D2- Art is a lot about Identity
Janell Lucero
Glenn Zucman
Art 110
16 October 2019
Yaneli Delgado is currently a Cal State University Long Beach Student in the art credential program. She has a BA in Sociology and Spanish from UC Santa Barbara. Yaneli’s interests is to create art as well and incorporate her culture through her art.  Her Mexican and aztec culture is what she primarily focuses on throughout most of her pieces. Her ideas and her work expresses not only her culture but the culture behind being a woman and what challenges women have faced. The main overall idea through her art is sending a message from reannouncing history and relating it to the present time.
Yaneli’s art is a woman carrying an infant in her hand. As you look very closely the painting has a lot of texture on it. There are multiple lines curves and even tiny little dots to make shapes look more vivid and precise. You could say that she used a sinuous technique throughout her piece as well as an undulating technique. I think these two techniques together made the piece looked like it had so much precision and detail into it. It also had a lot of rhythm to it, because there were multiple lines that were parallel to the opposite side of the picture. I spoke to Yaneli about her art and asked her why there was so much texture to it. She explained to me that she used a technique called Gamblin. Which is where you draw your art and use a specific tool to trace the precise lines and outline the lines to recreate it onto a different piece. Another question I asked was why she wanted to use that specific technique, and she said that relates to the idea of her piece.
Gamblin is an art technique that many artists use to recreate and even possibly revamp your artwork with the included textures that come with it. Delgado mentioned to me that a majority of artists that use this technique or the art of printmaking is primarily dominated by males, which is why she wanted to use it. The idea of not many women using gamblin ties into her artwork of women's culture, and that in a sense women are not idolized as much as they should be. The words “Ni la terra las mujeras somos terrio de conquista” which means Neither the land or women. The reason why she included this was because the background behind chicano women culture and how they spaniards invaded their territory. She was inspired by many primary sources about the chicano culture and wants to emphasise the hispanic background. She also was inspired by colonialism and that woman are strong and independent.
The moment I walked up to Delgado’s artwork it did speak to me. The first impression I was able to catch from it was her idea of idolizing women. The fact she included not only a woman but a woman holding a child did bring out the idea of motherhood and what women are able to do. I wanted to talk to her specifically because women empowerment is such a big deal, especially the fact that women do suffer from many disadvantages. The colors she chose, red and black, made me think about violence. And when I spoke to to Yaneli about that it did make sense about the chicano culture and what things they suffered and why she wanted to emphasize those colors. I think her piece does represent the chicano culture and emphasize women empowerment and what we are about.

D1- Fingerpainting
The finger-painting abstract art was actually pretty enjoyable. At first my painting looked like a multi colored tree but when I added another color it somewhat changed the look of the painting. So I ended up changing it to a shadow coming out light. In my opinion It was easy to paint but it was hard to come up with an idea. In the process it was pretty messy in my opinion. getting a ton of paint on your hands. and especially if you have acrylics it is a bit more difficult haha. This type of art is way different from other paintings just because there is so much you can do with your finger. Constructing lines, edges, and being precise. It creates a whole other theme rather than have precision.

also ignore the messy room. its been a crazy weekend haha

7 Ideas About Art-  Jenny Rask: LIMBO
Jenny Rask is an American Artist born in Portland Oregon. She Was born in 1971 and is currently 48 years old and is still continuing her passion for art . She has been in the Art industry for over 20 years and she primarily focuses on sculptures. Rask has attended many academies throughout her art career, including: Universite Jean-Moulin-Lyon, University of Oregon, Weaving Studies at Fumi Omiya Studio, Art Center College of Design, and as well as our own Cal State University of Long Beach. Rask will be Graduating the College of the Arts at Cal State Long Beach in the year 2020. Throughout her art career she has been showcased in many solo shows as well as group shows. Some of them include:  Stacks in Los Angeles California, as well as Beloved Objects in New York, these are just two of the many shows she has been involved in.
The Art Gallery I attended at Cal State University of Long Beach, showcased her sculpture of the many random objects put together. Before I had any idea of how the art resonated with me, I paid close attention to the many multiple minor details that she included in her piece. In my opinion she included a lot of texture into her piece, as mentioned before she used a lot of random objects and put them together which I think makes the piece have a lot of texture. Each single part she put into her sculpture, each individually has its own shape, color, and overall look which I think made the piece have so much texture. One example that I can bring about is the multiple rocks that were throughout the piece. Each rock when you looked closely had its own color, shape and even texture to it. Moving on from texture you can tell that her piece had a correlated color scheme, from observing the piece she used multiple monotone colors such as nudes, greys and whites it was very muted in a sense. Besides the color, the sculpture was very sinuous because they are multiple curves and turns that she added in the piece with just the different objects she incorporated. The sculpture is also staccato in my opinion, there were many objects and parts of the piece that were separated from one another, there were also objects that were missing pieces. For example one staccato piece I saw was the stuffed bunny with no body. Another idea that came into my mind was the fact that there were some objects you had to get close up too because each different part has a different type of look to it. These are just some of the many different visual techniques she put into her piece, very unique yet oddly satisfying to look at.
I had the chance to speak to Rask and have her explaining the meaning behind her unique artwork. She named her piece Limbo, she explained that she named it this because she wants people to see the real meaning of rebirthing something. When you look at it, you are probably wondering as to why there are so many articles into the piece that look used or even worn out. She explains that the idea of her work was to express rebirth and make ordinary objects into something greater than that. I asked Jenny why were her pieces so out of the ordinary, in a sense they were pretty random. She explained that these objects are just trash that she found while she was walking or things that individuals left outside their houses to take. She continued to explain that each of these pieces seem ordinary but the state of the object itself was the whole idea of why and what she chose. Her piece is called LIMBO, I had no idea why it was called that. Rask explained to me that the reason she called piece limbo was because it meant the in between states of things or the uncertainty of an object. When she said she got her objects from trash or even just on the side of the street she further explained that her inspiration was how things are left. Which then ties into the state of being of the objects she chose. These are the few questions that Jenny was able to answer for me which helped me construct my final thoughts and how I view the piece of artwork.
My thoughts on Jenny Rask’s art was that you can make anything look beautiful. Her idea of collecting trash and being able to make it something that we now can call art is how I view her piece. You can most definitely build something from the ground up and change a person’s whole entire perspective. In life many individuals will consider some things trash while others can have a completely different opinion on what they call trash. “Anothers mans trash is another man's treasure” really resonates with me and this piece. Her idea of rebirthing something is really astonishing because that’s what we have the power to do. Make something that was nothing in someones eyes into something great. Jenny’s piece was a great example of making something so basic into something beautiful.
