Notion
I have decided to move over to Notion for my research blog as I find it easier to organise and enjoy using it.

Reflections on Element Quest
I am happy with the overall idea and the intention behind it. I like that the periodic table is visible and the little illustrations. As with all projects this one could be improved.
I think adding numbers to get level would help keep track of where you are in the game and how far you have progressed. I also think improved animation and illustrations would add more value to the app. Overall, I am pleased with the current outcome although there is room for improvement.

User Personas
As 8-10 years is a group I am overly familiar with a created some user personas to help me get a better understanding of their needs. Oscar has dyslexia and I was interested in finding out how this. would effect my app design. I didn't look to much into this but increase the accessibiltiy in my work is definitely something I want to look into more.

Neon
Tumblr media
Symbol is Ne and the atomic number is 10. It is classified as a  noble gas and is a gas at room temperature. It was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and M. W. Travers in 1898.
Neon is typically a colourless odourless gas. When neon is in a vacuum discharge tube, it glows with a reddish-orange light Neon is a very rare element on Earth, however it is commonly found in stars and is the fifth most abundant element in the universe.
Neon is used in lightning signs - “neon” signs. As it only creates a reddish glow other gases are added to change the colour. A liquid form of neon is used for refrigeration.
Neon is produced commercially from liquid air making it pretty expensive to produce.

Fluorine
Tumblr media
Symbol is F and Atomic number is 9. It is classified as a halogen and appears as a gas at room temperature. It was discovered by Henri Moissan in 1886.
Most notable characteristic of Fluorine is its the most reactive element making it very difficult and dangerous to handle. In standard conditions fluorine forms a gas made up of two Fluorine atoms called a diatomic gas makes a pale greenish-yellow colour with a pungent odor.
Fluorine can be under in minerals in the Earth’s crust such as fluorspar and cryolite. Fluorine is rarely used in its true form but many compounds if fluorine are used by industry. One of its most common uses is fluoride which is a reduced form of fluorine. Fluoride is helpful in preventing tooth decay.
Fun Fact - Henri Moissan was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1906 for his discovery.

Oxygen
Tumblr media
Symbol for oxygen is O and the atomic number is 8. It is classified as a gas and nonmetal. It is a gas at room temperature. Discovered by Joseph Priestley in 1774 and C. W. Scheele independently in 1772.
Oxygen is needed by most life forms to survive. It is the most abundant element in the human body and third most abundant element in the universe. Oxygen is one of the elements that make up water.
Oxygen is used by plants and animals in the reparation (breathing) process. Liquid oxygen combined with liquid hydrogen creates rocket fuel. The oxygen that is found in the air is produced by photosynthesis, with out plants there would be very little oxygen in our planet.
Fun Fact - In the solar system, Earth has the highest percentage of oxygen

Nitrogen
Tumblr media
Symbol is N and atomic number is 7. It is classified as a gas and nonmetal. It is a gas at room temperature. Discovered by Daniel Rutherford in 1772.
Nitrogen plays an important role in the life of plants and animals through the nitrogen cycle. In standard circumstances  nitrogen is colourless, tasteless, odourless gas.
The most common element in our air is Nitrogen. 78% of the earth’s atmosphere is nitrogen. Most common use of nitrogen these days is to make ammonia. Ammonia is used to create fertiliser, nitric acid and explosives.
Fun Facts - Liquid nitrogen is very cold and will cause severe frostbite when touched.
- Nitrogen is produced deep inside stars by process called fusion.

Carbon
Tumblr media
Symbolis C. Atomic number is 6. It is classified as a non-metal. It is a solid at room temperature. Carbon has been known about since ancient times there is no know founder.
Carbon is consider one of the most important elements to life on planet earth. Form more compounds than any other element. Fourth most abundant element in universe and second in body.
Carbon is constantly cycled through earth’s oceans, plant life, animal life and atmosphere. Plants obtain carbon from the atmosphere to help assist with photosynthesis.
Carbon is  found on earth in three different allotropes - amorphous, graphite and diamond. Ironically, the diamond allotrope is one of the hardest substances known to man and the graphite allotrope is one of the softest.
Carbon is used in every industry the world. It is used for fuel ie. coal. It is used in materials such as plastic and can be found in black ink for printers.
Fun Fact- it is known to form nearly 10million different compounds.

Boron
Tumblr media
Symbol is B. Atomic number is 5. At room temperature it is a solid. It was discovered by Joesph L. Gay-Lussac, Louis J. Thenard and Sir Humphry Davy in 1808. It is classified as a metalloid which means it properties are in-between that of a mental and non-mental.
It comes in the form of a brown powder. Most of boron is mined and eventually refined into. boric aid or borax. Boron is used in the manufacture of glass and ceramics. Helps make glassware for science labs.
Fun Facts
-  Burns with a green. flame and is used to create green fireworks
- Scientists think. boron had potential. asa medicine to treat arthritis.

Beryllium
Tumblr media
Symbol is Be and atomic number is 4. It is classified as an Alkali earth metal. It is a solid at room temperature. It was discovered by Louis-Nicolas Vanquelin in 1798.
Beryllium is a very rare metal and almost never found in its pure form. It is s strong but brittle metal. Silver-grey metallic colour. Lightweight metal. It is nonmagnetic. Very harmful to humans - should be handled with care.
Beryllium is mainly found on earths crust, mostly in volcanic rocks. Utah supplies 2/3 of the worlds supply. Beryllium is also found in gems such as emeralds.
Uses today - many uses are high tech and militay. Used as a moderator and shield in nuclear reactors.
Fun Fact - Beryllium is used in window for x-ray machines, somewhat unique to appear transparent to X-rays.
