Flag of Sothotswana
(first posted on DeviantArt: 26th July, 2017)
See also: - AH Air Force Roundel: Sothotswana - AH Stop Signage: Sothotswana A little background: Sothotswana is a southeastern African country composed of OTL northeast South Africa and Lesotho (Botswana, in this scenario, is inhabited by Nama speakers, while Namibia is settled by largely Anglophone). The name of the country derived from the two main groups: Tswana (also known as Chuana) and Sotho, who both speak the same language, Sothotswana is a constitutional monarchy with a semi-decentralized parliamentary form of government; the reigning monarchs of the country belong to the House of Bamokoteli-Koena. Like in neighboring Ngunistan, traditional clan system still exists, despite the increasing mobilization and urbanization; in fact, the surnames of every people living Sothotswana reflected its clannish origin. For the flag itself, I just combined the OTL flag of Botswana with mokorotlo, (the traditional straw hat of the Sotho and Tswana peoples) at the center. Created and edited on MS Paint and Photoscape.

Alternate History Air Force Roundel: Sothotswana
A little background: Sothotswana is a southeastern African country composed of OTL northeast South Africa and Lesotho (Botswana, in this scenario, is inhabited by Nama speakers, while Namibia is settled by largely Anglophone). For the roundel/insignia, I used the OTL Air Force roundel of Botswana as an inspiration; I flipped it 180 degrees, then I added mokorotlo, the traditional straw hat of the Sotho (and possibly Tswana, too) people. Created and edited on Photoscape, MS Paint and Pixlr.

Flag of (a linguistically) Austronesian Sri Lanka (aka Madagascar but less further west and more northern)
"Instead of ending up in Madagascar, what if the East Barito-speaking ancestors of the Malagasy people ended up in Sri Lanka?" Personally, this is one of the alternate history scenarios that I'm fascinated with, despite the fact that such topic was too remote to be tackled, even in the Alternate History Discussion Board. In fact, the ATL version of Sri Lanka would become part of my current timeline, particularly in the section "What was happening in the rest of the world?", where some of the events that was happening in neighboring countries of the Philippines, which in my current TL was just a geopolitical region made up of a few kingdoms and confederacies since the setting was in the pre-colonial era. How an Austronesian Sri Lanka developed in my timeline? It depends, actually. At least, a thing is certain: They would use an abugida to record their language (OTL Malagasy). For the flag itself, I combined the three principal colors of both Sri Lankan and Malagasy flag: Maroon from the former, and colors red and white from the latter, especially in the OTL Merina ethnic flag. Another detail: the lion would be at the center, but the distance the four Bo leaves were more widespread within the flag.
Created and edited on MS Paint and Photoscape.

"E Zingo" (Lyrics in Tifinagh)
More or less than a year ago, I commented
in this thread
my own ideas in relation to the scenario that the Bantu expansion never happened just like in OTL (most possibly through assimilation to a series of earlier civilizations who possessed/acquired the same technology and know-how as the proto-Bantus); one of my suggestions is the possibility that the Ubangian-speaking peoples would settle the whole Congo River Basin (renamed Ubangi in relation to such scenario), which means their settlement area extended the OTL countries of Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly known as Zaire), Republic of the Congo and northernmost Angola (Cabinda included). The rest of the history, contemporary period included, depends on the circumstances.
For the modern-day flag of Ubangistan (the hypothetical name for this ATL African nation), I've created a flag that combined the elements of its counterparts in a couple of OTL counterparts:
Central African Republic
and
the Belgian Congo (currently the DRC)
; the most noticeable difference is the stripes: while the design is inspired by the CAR flag, I modified it a bit by replacing the color of the topmost stripe with red.
Created and edited on MS Paint, Pixlr and Photoscape.

Alternate History Stop Signage: Ngunistan
(first posted on DeviantArt: 22 October,2016)
See also: - AH Air Force Roundel: Ngunistan A little background: Ngunistan is a southeast African country composed of OTL Swaziland and southeast South Africa; as the name of the country (obviously) suggested, it is the country of different Nguni tribes (e.g. Xhosa, Zulu, Swazi, Ndebele) speaking mutually intelligible dialects/languages, all of which belonged within the Bantu language family. The capital of the Ngunistan is Umtata, historically strategic border town between the now provinces of Thembuland, Pondoland and Bhacaland. For the signage itself, I would like to thank Google Translate for helping me to find the accurate Nguni word for "stop", which is "Yeka" (it's actually Xhosa; the other Zulu word for "stop" is "ayeke", but I don't bother a damn). Created and edited on Photoscape.

The capital of the Ngunistan is Umtata, historically strategic border town between the now provinces of Thembuland, Pondoland and Bhacaland In relation to this scenario, the OTL Northern/Zimbabwean Ndebeles stayed in OTL southern Mpumalanga in the early to middle 19th century after a series of wars with the Zulus (with British intervention, obviously). In addition, it actually depend on the whims of destiny if Ngunistan would be either a republic or a monarchy, as long as Nelson Mandela would be part of the nation's history. For the air force roundel itself, I based my design on the colors of OTL African National Congress, which in this scenario is the national colors of Ngunistan; I added the spears and the Nguni warrior shield, which was derived from the 1894 Swazi flag. Created and edited on Photoscape, MS Paint and Pixlr.
