Lou could feel Jason’s smile under her fingers. His whole face sort of changed. She wondered what it looked like. “They’re not as bony as I thought they’d be, I’ll give them that.” She snorted. “Sure, sure. Always blame the victim. I know how guys like you operate.” She slid her hands down and found his shoulders. “This is almost like being on the phone with you. Except you’re here.”
“Why would they be bony?” Jason asked with a quiet laugh. His skin felt electric wherever she touched him, his smile faltering a little. “It is, yeah.” He had totally fantasized about this. The same conversations and banter that they engaged in over the phone only with her there in his arms, real and tangible.
“Your voice is even better in person. I can practically hear the freckles.” He teased, his arms circling further around her. He couldn’t believe how natural it felt to hold her like this, reminded that they were little more than knowledgeable strangers to each other.

Lou shifted a little, trying to find an angle where the light might show Jason’s face. She got nothing, so she tried just touching it instead. He had fuzzy eyebrows, a sort of longish but probably not too long nose, lips that were soft enough that she felt maybe a little weird just touching them with her fingers, and a somewhat stubbly but decent jaw. “You were right, you do have good bone structure.” She laughed quietly, not sure why she was trying not to make too much sound. There was no one else here with them. She was still sitting on his lap, but she wasn’t nearly as bothered by that as she should be. “Is this how you pick up girls? Lure them into dark rooms and then trip them into your lap?”
Jason held still as she touched his face, more than okay with the fact that she couldn’t see him. He relaxed as she said that he had good bone structure, a smile spreading across his features. “Spider legs have to be good for something.” He joked. “I hardly lured you though. I was just sitting here when you threw yourself at me. I’m not complaining, but I didn’t ask for this either.” He insisted.

lou-fletcher:
Lou actually had the night off, and figured maybe a train ride would be fun. Even without the lights, which admittedly put a bit of a damper on things. But it was Christmas. And for some reason, she felt like she’d done this before. Maybe sitting in the dark would spark some sort of memory that would bring back a piece of the past that she’d lost.
She dodged along the train in the dark, an intern at her elbow leading her. It made her feel like a child again. There, a memory already. The dark was definitely helpful. She could see the world in her mind’s eye, walking down stairs in the dark to go peek at the tree before anyone else was awake. She remembered that. She even remembered sneaking downstairs, with larger feet, to hide presents for someone. Lawrence, maybe.
She wished she knew who to call at this time of year, who she should be wishing a Merry Christmas. Or maybe a Happy Hanukkah, who knew? Not knowing was so lonely. The intern left her at a door and disappeared without a sound. Lou wondered if that was a skill included in the internship program.
Pulling the door open, she slipped into the car quietly and then immediately tripped over a pair of overly long legs. She hadn’t realized there was anyone in the car before she stepped in, but it was hard to ignore when she landed directly in what was almost definitely a his lap.
“Uh, sorry.” She paused. His voice had sounded familiar. Was it just part of the memories coming back to her in the dark? For a confused moment, she almost thought it might be chip guy. But she’d never heard him apologize. She had, however, heard someone apologize quite a bit. “Wait a minute, Jason?”
Jason was surprised to hear his name come from their mouth, his mind running through the list of people it could be only to rule out everyone else. His shoulders relaxed a little, his hold on her becoming less stiff than before. He had expected some amount of dread upon her finally realizing who he was when she met him in real life, stuck with the self-inflicted stigma of being ‘the chip guy’ now, but this comforting shield of darkness around them was better than he could have hoped for.
“Hey stranger.” The smile could be heard in his voice, the apology from before missing now.

I Know A Place || Lou & Jason
Jason had let Matt talk him into coming, figuring he could be a good sport on the poor guy’s one night off. Jason had assumed that he and Matt would be able to hang out on the train, already thinking of some reasoning that would make it sound less romantic when the intern took him by the elbow and led him away to a different part of the train. It seemed that seating was assigned to you and you couldn’t just ride with whoever you wanted to. It didn’t really matter to Jason though, the real reason he had finally agreed to come was because he legitimately wanted to see the lights.
He missed the holidays. He missed celebrating with his little family. He missed sitting around the Christmas tree with Julia and Bucket, the memories uncomfortably vivid around this time of year. His home was undecorated and lonely, the day off from work an unwelcome burden of time each year.
It was dark as he boarded the train, having missed the news that the festival of lights would be unlit. His knees hit the front of the train cart as he sat down, wedging painfully in the space that was too small for his legs. He shifted, trying to get comfortable by stretching his legs diagonally across the floor of the cart.
He wasn’t expecting any company so when he felt someone stumble over his legs he quickly recoiled, only making their fall worse. He felt them falling into him and tried to catch them, his voice filled with concern and apology as he asked. “Shit. Are you okay?”

Conversation
Complaint Line | Lou & Jason
Lou: Jerk. Fine. I'll go get pounced on by a butt-grabbing chip guy who'll probably hold me down and force me to eat plain chips. And then who will be here to talk to you?
Jason: I don't know. Maybe chip guy can be my new friend.
Jason: I'm just kidding, please don't leave me.
