Stupid Steven Universe rant/PLEASE write better Jasper fanfics.

You know what? Im geniuenly pissed off that Jasper never got a proper redemption arc in Steven Universe Future. I was so desperate for a proper closure that i turned to the nightmare of my teenage era.. AO3 and Wattpad, hoping to find some fanfics that would do Jasper some justice and what did I find? Er.. NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING that truly captured her character, her mindset, or the complexity of how she thinks. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this disappointed by fan content before.

I read multiple fanfics with nearly identical plots, all making the same mistake as painting Jasper as pure evil, the worst thing to come out of Earth, a ruthless brute and an ebodiment of the worst things that exist. Like, SERIOUSLY?! Did we even watch the same show?! Jasper was shown to be actually insanely insecure, hiding it behind insults and pride. She clearly been through a LOT of tough shit, her being the 'perfect quartz' probably doesnt make her overall job easier, but probably harder becouse she is expected to handle more. Even Malachite is so widely misunderstood that reading about it made me sick. One fanfic actually claimed that “Malachite was 100% Jasper’s fault and she doesn’t deserve forgiveness from Lapis because she traumatized her” BOO HOO. THEY BOTH TRAUMATISED EACHOTHER. JUST ACCEPT IT. They were both EQUALLY toxic. 'But lapis was traumatised and Jasper was a bitch so she had every right to trap jasper in the fusion-' ITS NOT AN EXCUSE. Just becouse what, Lapis looks pretty, she went through some shit as well, she literally gets a pass and can abuse others becouse of her trauma...? Trauma is not an excuse yall! Remember!

So yes, Jasper is a bitch. Jasper was awful to Amethyst, she was maybe awful to lapis, she was awful to basically everyone, but CUT HER SOME SLACK LIKE YALL DID WITH LAPIS AND PERIDOT. THANK YOU

Since it's still gonna be a bit til I get the next page for SUR out, how about some random facts on Andesine that no one asked for. But I was kinda nerding out about her in my discord server so thought I'd share some of my ideas for the fusion between Jasper and Spinel and why I chose to name them after this stone in particular, as well as some real world facts about the stone itself

Andesine is a plagioclase feldspar with a composition between that of oligoclase and labradorite.. Its bold colors and warm energy are believed to make andesine a stress-relieving, grounding stone that melts your worries away.

*Kinda fits 2 certain gems we all know and love in the SU fandom eh? Since I'm pretty sure it's sorta implied Jasper and Spinel hate themselves, or at least blame themselves for not realizing Pinks' plan when she abandoned them in the garden (Spinel) or when she was planning to fake her own shattering (Jasper)

Also being left behind, even though both are the most perfect of gems, that a Gem could be. And even then they weren't good enough for Pink to wanna keep them around etc.

*I've always wanted to write a fusion that's meant to sorta be an in-between of Malachite (the physical manifestation of what a toxic relationship would look like as a character)

And Garnet (The Physical manifestation of what a healthy, loving relationship looks like)

And, yeah. That's basically what Andesine is supposed to be like. Because I feel like both Jasper and Spinel have the ability to heal from their trauma, and maybe even help each other find more healthier ways to deal with the pain, and confide in one another etc. (But also I feel like, especially in Jaspers case, both are way too stubborn to actually do it. At least for a very long time tbh) but- yeah.

I think both can help each other erase their fears, and maybe even self-worth given how very alike they are, but also different at the same time- just like the character, they need time to sorta realize this.

if i think about the way Jasper and Steven's dynamic morphed over the course of the show plus future, i get a bit ill tbh, he was once her ruler that she worshipped like a god hundreds of years ago, then he was her worst enemy because he shattered her diamond, then he was a disgusting remnant of what rose quartz had done to her and the entire gem society, then he saved her life and she started to respect her, then they were sparring partners for weeks, then they were friends, then he went too far and nearly killed her, and then she saw through a fake facade to glint a fake truth and decided that deep down, he still was her diamond, and she should treat him as such and he fucking hates it— what if i killed you and all you knew how to do in response was bow to my strength, to vow to protect me, to worship me like the false god i never was and will be, because i killed you, because i became something i never shouldve been, and you fucking appreciated it, found proof that i was still the horrible monster she was running away from by becoming me

scenes that still forever fuck me up forever and eve

did i. did i forget to mention that they have both been rejected to some extent by everyone they have ever fused with. Jasper because of incompatibility and her loyalty to the diamonds outlasting any mutual bond ever attainable, and Steven because his biology rejects a long lasting fusion.

the way they went from "you shattered our diamond! pink diamond!" to kneeling down and proclaiming loyalty and reverence to "my diamond" even though Steven was never Pink Diamond in the first place, and Jasper, Jasper who has only ever had the respect from her diamond her entire life because no one else ever really liked her finally having someone who holds mutual respect with her and ruining it because Steven proved that he was as ruthless as Pink was by shattering her and she decided that he deserves to be revered and worshipped the way a diamond is— and maybe if he was a diamond there wouldnt be an issue with it, but he isnt a diamond no matter how badly she may want to believe
