"Few of us actually are." he stated simply as he shook his head. "They won't approach you with me being here." he stated the obvious. Not only was Jiang Cheng known but the fact he had been black balled by ever single Match Maker that encountered him meant he was what they called undatable. It took much to cultivate such an image. He wanted impossible to meet expectations, and usually anyone was met Jin Ling was off put by his attitude. It was amusing though to watch people struggle…he shouldn't take pleasure in such things but he did.
Tumblr media
He was unimpressed with the show of wealth. It could come and go in an instant. It was Jin Ling here that was important, and if someone made a wrong move in his direction. Jiang Cheng would break their legs, he knew precisely how hard it was to be a young man taking on the duties of a Sect Leader, and Jin Ling was still growing into his station in life, his abilities and his ability to deal with people. Lan Sizhui worked as a soft balm to his ego and temper, it was frankly amazing that he could have such an effect. Than again he was a Lan, and a healer.
He snorted "It is a miracle that Sizhui is here to deal with the stupid." he said bluntly. "Most of the Lan Sect turn down such extravagance, and rightly so…except this is the first even Ling has thrown and it is a show of support to be here. I heard Lan Xichen came and I am pretty sure Nie Huaisang is around here somewhere." he added.
"The Yao clan." he shuddered "They never shut up, even if you break their legs, they have a story of when a similar thing happened, and after having broken said legs they are entitled to your attention." his sneer did not fade. Neither did his guiding her away from places. "All you need to know about them is to stir clear. Their Sect Leader might be a damn fool, but he is silver-tongued and people for what ever gods forsaken reasons listen to him."
Jiang Cheng turned on her all the way around and paused to wait for her to finish her sentence. "Do go on, since he …?" he encouraged purple eyes held a glint that said he was waiting and not going to let it go. "We will after you have answered my questions Disciple Hua." he said calmly he knew how Jin Ling behaved, he knew the boy was working to make contacts and friends, but what he didn't know was if the boy was allowing himself time with his friends, if he was getting a break from work, if he careful to not shut out the support of his friends because he might need that if he wanted to establish himself.
"My admirers are few, its yours we've been dodging." he said finally as he nodded to a disappointed young man who met his gaze for a second before deciding to be on the other side of the Palace, when Jiang Cheng smiled. It was more intimidating from him than frowning.

adversitybloomed asked:
“I prefer watching from the sidelines to participating.” ( for Jiang Chang )
He completely agreed he felt the same way about such events. "Yes." he voiced as he moved to the side to avoid a woman in a tittering tone switching targets to another man when Jiang Cheng did not indulge her in conversation. Black and purple robes flowed around him as he moved, he caught her arm and moved her physically with him. It was the best way to not be bothered. "The key in this situation is to always be on the move." he stated as he gave an unwavering stare to another party goer until they looked away.
Tumblr media
"I wouldn't have come here at all, if it weren't for Jin Ling needed the support." he said. "I know you and Sizhui tend to pal around with him, and Sizhui is forever that boy's keeper, if I were to break his legs he wouldn't be about to move so fast, of course he wouldn't be able to use this tactic of avoiding socializing either." he humored though there was little joy or amusement in it.
"The Jin Sect always feels that throwing money at a problem will make it go away. It buys it off for a while, but its still there with the coin runs out." Jiang Cheng turned his nose up at the offer of a dance, and moved her again, this time towards the refreshment table. He knew she would follow he was her Sect Leader after all.
"You spend time with A-Ling." he said "That boy is often a mystery to me. How is he handling things ?" he asked her as he made a show of handing her punch to ward off anyone stupid enough to step up, and it would help him from the flutter, tittering air-heads that thought because he was well appointed and good looking he was a catch.
They'd have better luck with a prickle-pear.

“I’m not supposed to be here. If they catch me I’m in trouble!” (for jingyi)
"Sect Leader Nie ?" Lan Jingyi asked in a whisper as he glanced to the man he heard the stage whisper from. He directed the students towards archery which would have their backs to himself and his unexpected guest. "Lan Ju." he called "Show them the reed method again." the instruction was met with agreement and the firm voice of another of the juniors who began the proper instruction.
Tumblr media
Jingyi excused himself and moved to stand in front of Sect Leader Nie. How had he even gotten into the Cloud Recesses. "Well, someone knows your here, you got in past the wards." Jingyi reminded him practically. To his knowledge Lan Xichen had never revoked Sect Leader Nie's jade token, in fact he had made sure that the man could still get in if he needed help. It wasn't missed by Jingyi that Lan Sizhui spent time in the Unclean Realm, and he would like to as well, but his mouth got him in trouble so much.
"Do you want to borrow some robes so you can blend in ?" he offered the man curiously. Since if he didn't want to be seen there had to be a reason why. "You can stay at mine and Sizhui's room" he offered." It's off the bridge near the healing pool." he decided it was likely safer to show him least he wind up all turned around and in the Jiangshi with Senior Wei and Hanguang Jun.
Jingyi just moved with him and whispered "Walk like your supposed to be here, no one will know any different." it was the best advice he had. "Though I am curious why your here under the cover of sneakiness." Jingyi tilted his head "You didn't run away from the Unclean Realm did you ?" he asked sometimes Sect Leading was hard. "Or are you just afraid of Lan Qiren, Senior Wei said he nailed you with a manual once up the side of the head."
Shifu often stood in for Lan Xichen currently, it was surprising how few Sect Leaders offered to visit. @cuckoo-among-beasts

While his Sect had money they did not dress outrageously it went against the Sect rules. One wasn't supposed to show off. Though there clothes were well made and extremely elegant. Jingyi had been pretty much handed clothes and told these were his to wear for the ball. To make himself presentable, he had tried to ask when a Cultivator needed to look like a peacock, but apparently they didn't understand the question at hand, and just giggled like they had fluff for brains.
When people started pouring in Jingyi righted himself no more slouching and held himself in the proper way a Lan Sect member was to hold himself. He was slipping into work mode. The sheer amount of wealth in one room was simply scandalous to how he was brought up. How many could these people feed with one night frivolities ?
Tumblr media
He also hoped Sizhui was alright, for different reasons. Jingyi would surly put his foot in his mouth if he were required to be social. He didn't suffer fools well, and he would serve the tea, no matter how embaressing it might be to others. It was why they were a set pair on night hunts. Jingyi has been able to hide behind Mulan for the time being to throw off the girls interested in him. Not that it stopped all of them but his comment of Shameless." had. "I am the most ineligible man here I don't know any of these people, and even if I did." he pulled a face. "They are not wife material." his tone was flat. He'd never feel comfortable trying to support someone of this lifestyle.
Jingyi shook his head at her "No." he said and realized she didn't understand the bigger world and colored "They umm…" he looked around. Oh gods where was Sizhui. He tried not to glace back at her but he relented since he was the one who dug this hole. He might as well cover it before she asked more. "Umm..they use their feminine wiles, to gain favors through certain acts…that a man and woman should only do if they are wed."
He nodded vigorously "Exactly." he agreed and moved to take her arm when any man got close enough. He shifted his body to better protect her from invasive men. Allowing the blade he wore openly to show. If they wanted to pick a fight with a cultivator they were entitled to do so, just as he was entitled to leaving them on their backside. He would never hurt a non-cultivator, but he didn't need cultivation to fight. "They wonder why their lower class rises up, as ghosts or worst with this behavior." they treated the common folk poorly, commoners could grow sick, die, starve or worse and they only cared for their life style.
Jingyi gave a frown "No one stepped in to stop them from running, or behaving like a pack of dogs ?" he asked grey-blue eyes shifted in her direction and he pressed his lips. This whole behavior was unacceptable to his own senses. "Don't worry, it won't happen while I am right here." he stated. "Lan's rarely accept invites to parties of any sort, but he said in his letter to us." he reach into his robes to pull out the inquiry and pass it to her. "He wanted us to watch for anyone suspicious at the party, didn't you get a similar letter ?" a scoff followed "They have to show off their wealth, just like they have to show off they can afford Cultivators to protect them." he offered as his head lowered over the missive with her. His attention was still on those around them, though also on her so they would hopefully not be approached.
@adversitybloomed
adversitybloomed asked:
“Some of these costumes are so extravagant. They must have cost a fortune.” ( for Jingyi )
When you got invited to the local lords fancy ball because you promised to check out his local graveyard to make sure the things happening was not tied to it, it could be a bother. He had never been to a fancy ball before, let along instructed on what to wear. He would not relinquish his sacred ribbon and had promised pain to anyone who dared to attempt to touch it. They had learned the Lan boy was absolutely capable of being a nightmare.
Tumblr media
So they dressed him around it.
"Sizhui should be here." he offered in a soft whisper to the woman at his side. "I can not deal with this much stupid in one room, to many simpering ladies and I use this term loosely, trying to get into this lord or that lords graces and by graces Mulan, I mean beds." he was sneering beneath the menacing mask so at least that part was appropriate. "To many young lords looking for hook ups and it goes against every single thing I was brought up believing." he said He thrust an arm out in her direction, partly to cause some one heading their way to detour and partly to whine. "I think all this is giving me a rash."
Though she was right the costumes in this place were beyond beautiful and had the hefty tag to prove it. "I feel like if they donated what it cost to make just one of these than a small village could be fed for over a month." came his answer. "The clouds on this sleeve I believe is actually embroidered with silver." he huffed as he folded his arms across his chest, and looked every bit intimidating.
This was not what he had signed up for. "Just being here feels like I am breaking rules" he mused "The Lan Qiren who is always in my head is rattling off all the rules I am breaking, just being extravagantly dressed and what ever it was that lady handed me with real gold flakes on it."

cuckoo-among-beasts asked:
"i don't know. i'm not good at this, sorry."
(He really doesn't know! XD For jc. Can be about anything. )
How had he been found by Nie Huaisang was beyond him. If Jin Ling had not been hosting Jiang Cheng would have simply not attended this little gathering. He was used to hosting at the Lotus Pier and he was used to attending the Lan Sect when it hosted this was the first time he chose to come to a Jin get together they were always so much Drama.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng shifted purple eyes towards the man at his side. Than back to their surroundings and gave a little huff. "How is you don't know how to get around this place when you were here often ?" he asked to be fair to Nie Huaisang Jin Ling had likely had it remodeled more to his liking and rightly so. It was less extravagant under Rulan's choices but elegant still. It wasn't flashy like his grandfather had it, and it wasn't trying to prove something as it had been under his uncle now it was a show of wealth but in a way that nice to look at.
In fact this was how Jiang Cheng had gotten lost, he was looking at swords Jin Ling had put on display and gotten absolutely turned around. None of the help would approach because maybe Jiang Cheng had a reputation for his temper ( he absolutely had a reputation for his temper ) people avoided him and he enjoyed it.
This was a result of his temper.
"I am completely turned around. Did I come in through that door or this door, both have Peonies on them." he sighed. "Your no help, you know that." he grumped. "Shouldn't you be in the great hall already ?" he asked giving him a sideways glance. "Usually a man can get lost in peace, and not with an audience." he frowned.
It never occurred to him of the options of others not knowing the changes either. "Your not following me are you." he asked suspiciously.

@battleguqin asked- “Can you guess who I am under here?”
There was only a moment of the young woman scrunching up nose before she answered. "Oh, I think you are Sizhui." she said as she dipped her head to him. "I am guessing you know who I am as well, since you asked me if I knew you ?" the question followed.
Tumblr media
She shifted the fox mask a little bit to better get a look at him it was a beautiful mask but it was not good for simple things like depth perception. "This whole event has been creepy, I saw a masked person that seemed to have no eyes behind the mask." she confessed as she politely took his arm so she could speak to him without being too overheard. "When I approached he had disappeared." it wasn't the strangest thing she'd see tonight she was sure.
"Arkham, is most certainly one of those place to not go." she admitted "There are so many rumors floating around. I heard that the Dean of Students is in a cult and quietly recruiting people." she kept her voice pitched low. "How is this even a thing he can get away with ?" curiosity laced her voice as she took a drink off the side table, and pretended to take a sip of it.
"The punch at the table is spiked...a lot." she warned "This is also one of the first events I have been to where the teachers and students are allowed to fraternize. " her lips quirked "Maybe, its just because it so different from the Providence I come from."
