“Hey... it’s okay. Let’s just be more careful with the weaponry next time,” He winked.

“Neither... i’ve got an inherited gene that draws me to protect others,” He said narrowing his eyes. In truth Jackson meant well, he only wanted to help and protect others. He didn’t want anything out of it, he didn’t expect anything from it. Jax just felt like it was his duty to protect, because in reality it was. “I have,” He nodded, knowing what she was saying. “But I find it overwhelming to see the souls of people I don’t know very well.” He raised his eyebrow and nodded. “Even the supernatural?” Jackson asked suspiciously. “They don’t seem to understand our ways. I guess we’re lucky to have you on the inside.” Jackson smirked.

“I think you’ve watched one too many chick flicks– or you were just hoping to get laid,” she continued to tease him. At this point, it was more for her amusement than anything else. It gave her a distraction from the thoughts running through her mind. “Fair enough, but have you honestly never wanted to see into the soul of a stranger? Facial expressions can be forced, but the eyes? Only a true sociopath could master faking the look in them.” If she had a penny for every time that she heard someone say they disliked the law, she’d be rich. “Funny thing about that is, I never did either. Until I became the law… and even now, I don’t one hundred percent agree with law, but I abide by it.— The law only usually gets in someone’s business if they’re breaking the rules. Follow the rules and we leave you alone. Not rocket science.”

“Kid? Again... I think you’re confusing me with someone else.” Jackson smirked his lips. “You think you’re really fucking tough, don’t you?”
Tumblr media
“Luckily for you I don’t give a damn.” Expression remained stony as he spoke. “Thanks for the warning kid.”

“I... I didn’t think of that previously to jumping in,” He frowned, as he sat soaking wet with a look of confusion. “Turns out she didn’t need the help..” Jackson’s mouth opened widely, “She’s not dead!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Do you really believe that getting shirtless is going to help her? You’ve wasted time doing that and standing here listening to me – oh look at that she’s already dead. Witches never knew how to swim.”

“I am not!” He shook his head and laughed. His lips parted into a massive toothy smile. Jackson had always loved being a guardian. From the time he had learnt about being one the man had imagined what his life would entail. Jax had been five years old and when found out that one day he would serve to protect a member of the supernatural community. His eyes had light up with joy and excitement as he make-believed the part. It wasn’t until he was sixteen and he had moved to America was he aligned to guide the witch Lux Cole. Even though Lux often ran off on her own and caused major issues for Jackson there was never a time he didn’t love his role in life. It just naturally fit him and it was an entirely simple thing for him- it was who he was.
Jackson chuckled at Isis’ comment and nodded his head. “You’re right, I love so much you so much.” He met her gaze, his best friend had always been there for him. The two compared relationships and talked about life. Jackson had aways been well aware of the way Isis struggled with her birth-right and duties. For a while she had remembered her not minding being a guardian and the two would rant and rave about the events that took place while on duty. But Jackson had seen as the hope and pride had slowly left Isis and confusion was replaced. The guardian laughed again, and gently smacked her back. All good fun and games- the way brother and sisters fought.
Listening to Isis explain what had happened Jax inhaled sharply and frowned moving closer to his friend. “Are you okay?” He wrapped his arm around her shoulder with concern. “What happened here... it seems hellish,” He confessed, his voice low. “I really appreciate that. It was good to still get to see you every so often, even if you saw how disgusting I looked...” He shook his head thinking back to his previous disheveled look, when he had been drinking too much and getting little to no sleep on top of stress.
Jackson sighed, unsure what to say. Could she be true? Was his writing really as good as his friend believed. He wasn’t sure, but it had always been hard to get published when he had to dumb down his ideas for the human world.  Jax nodded his head, agreeing completely with what she was saying, having to hide himself was the hardest thing he had to live with outside the walls of the university. “She was beautiful... amazing enough. I’m sure it was my fault,” He said quietly, any louder and the shaking in his voice would have been obvious. “I was a drunk... and a failed writer. I was also always lying to her about where I was going... because she was a human.” The guardian looked up at his friend and gave a small smile, shaking his head. “What does bitch smell like Isis?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Aww, you’re only saying that to butter me up.” She winked playfully, corners of her mouth lifting into a smile. He was right, she could hardly be referred to as boring. It was wanting something more out of life than what her parents had wanted for her that had her living the way that she did. While she had nothing against being a guardian and had lived and breathed that lifestyle for years, she’d had this craving for something more out of life since about the time she’d been old enough to speak. It was exhausting at times, running around the world without taking much time to breathe, but it was a good kind of exhausting and preferable to being exhausted because she was choosing not to enjoy the one life that she had been given. “Hey, don’t roll your eyes at me. You adore me.” She reached out with her free hand to smack him lightly on the arm, smile still playing on her lips, but it faltered as he asked where she got the scars. Bits and pieces of her experience flashed through her mind, but that’s all it was– fragments. Her brain was attempting to put the pieces together like it was a puzzle, but kept failing every time. “I don’t… I barely remember.” A sigh passed through her lips as she glanced away briefly. “I think I got them when the rope was being placed around my neck— maybe before. I was wasted out of my wits… Drunk and high. I just know that I was lucky enough to have a partner who didn’t fail to find me.” Her voice shook as she spoke the words and she had to clear her throat afterward. The worst part about waking up from that nightmare was knowing that this whole thing wasn’t over. That night had only been the beginning. “I get it… I do, which is why I settled for the occasional Skype call and text messages.” She grinned affectionately.
“For what it’s worth, you’re a brilliant writer and they’re lame for not seeing that,” she replied quietly. “It’s a shame that we have to hide who we really are when we’re outside of these walls. Truth of the matter is, the universe rejects what it doesn’t understand and supernaturals? We aren’t supposed to exist, but we do.” Isis had been okay with not being a guardian only because she had never much desired to be one anyway, but that didn’t mean that, down in her bones, she hadn’t felt that urge to protect. “You never told me you got married… I bet I wouldn’t have liked her. Sounds like she would have smelled like bitch if she was crazy enough to cheat on you, babe.” She tried to bring light to the situation, because nothing was worse for her than seeing those she cared for in some kind of turmoil.

Jackson hadn’t realized how much he had missed Wisteria. The guardian felt his eyes constantly darting up to her face, her smile was beautiful and it shined brighter than he had realized. Jax wasn’t sure if she hadn’t noticed it before, or if Wish was truly happier at this moment. Nonetheless he was beyond happy to see her again. The two had been extremely close all throughout university and Wish had even been there for him at times when no one else was. That was a huge act to follow, and it had repeatedly gotten let down. Jackson shook his head and frowned, “Everything you’ve written is amazing.” He said quietly but his voice was direct. “Yes, I do,” He nodded grabbing the seat of the bar stool with his hands and leaning forward. The guardian looked up to grab her gaze for a moment, and then shifted away.
“I wouldn’t ever do such a thing... don’t worry,” He shook his head laughing, but his voice was filled with full seriousness. “That was fun... I have to say,” The man smirked, recalling the memory. “You’re roommate was kinda an asshole though honestly,” Jackson gritted his teeth. “And those people were always so gossipy,” He said the word almost as if it was a curse word. Jackson grabbed his glass in his hands and took another long sip of his drink back. “Shots?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The list of things Wisteria had to be thankful for wasn’t long, but Jackson had been on the non-existent list since the day they had met. He’d been there for her since day one and maybe that wouldn’t have seemed like a big deal to many people, but constants were not a thing that had existed in her life and in university, he’d been that for her. Regardless of how insane she acted, how bitchy she got, or the way she had sometimes withdrawn into herself, Jax had not once walked away from her. As small of a thing as that was, it felt so big because she seemed to have a habit of chasing people away, but nothing she’d ever done to shove him out of her life had worked and she was hoping that would remain true this time around. “Professor Asshole. An understatement, really. He had the audacity to offer constructive criticism in an online review for my first collection of short stories after it was published. My response was to ask if he’d ever published anything in his life— He never did write back.” Her lips curved into a smirk. “You genuinely believe that about me, don’t you?” The realization had her facial expression softening. While she didn’t believe it to be true, and currently felt herself to be the one of the biggest assholes walking on campus, she thought maybe she could almost believe it because he believed it about her.
When he mentioned Eliza, she swallowed thickly. She didn’t like a lot of people, but she liked Eliza. It was a shame that they’d probably never speak again when the truth came out about her and Kai. “Most likely,” she nodded, “but hey, no shame in having fun, even if it is stupid. Besides, have you looked at Eliza? No one can blame you.” She spoke the words playfully before downing another shot.
“I’m okay with that, but you have to promise you won’t let me pass out in the hallway before we even get back to the dorms. My roommate didn’t let me live that down for weeks– and neither did the people in the dorm across from us because they’re the ones who found me.” She laughed.

“It was an implosive thing, let’s not dwell on my saving techniques.” He dismissed the issue. Jackson shook his head at her logic, sure she was right... but he hadn’t thought of that. “I don’t like looking into the eyes of someone I don’t know for very long, yes it makes me uncomfortable. I don’t even know the person and i’m starring into their soul- it’s garring.” He said quietly, always hating that he felt so deeply. “I don’t have too much love for the law in general... always seeming to get into my business.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Was it necessary to take your shirt off to help, though? Not that I mind, but could have helped me sooner if you hadn’t stopped to take it off.” She chuckled, a triumphant grin gracing her lips as he broke the stare. “And why’s that? Do they make you uncomfortable? That’s kind of the whole point.” Her grin grew. “What? Not a fan of detectives?”

It felt so right. Jackson only wanted to pull the brunette closer, kissing every corner of her beautiful body and to see inside her amazing mind. Maybe he was a romantic, maybe he was lonely. But the guardian wanted only to share that night, and possibly many more with Eliza. It seemed like the only real thing at that moment. Hearing her words, Jackson sat down with her legs wide and anchored his elbows into his legs. The man set out a long sigh and shook his head. Her assumption almost made him laugh. If it was twenty years ago, she would have been right... but not now. Not even with him being back in his old body. “Train of girls?” He asked with confusion, his voice sounding shaken. “Where did you get that impression?” The blonde was genuinely curious, he had never gave off the ladies man vibe. Jackson leant his head between his legs and scratched the back of his neck for a moment before looking up at her. “Look- you don’t have to have sex with me... that’s fine. I enjoy kissing you okay? But I wasn’t pushing for anything else. There are no other girls, not for a mile radius that would be interested in me. That’s not self pity, that’s reality. If you don’t want to have sex, fine.” He sat up and put his chest out. “Let’s not push this off as some random hook-up where I could get the same reward from any girl though, because that’s bullshit.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was wrong. As much as she would love to become one of those chicks that just rolled around with their regrets she wasn’t. And though she was not with Elliot – and nor would she ever be back with him she felt like she was cheating, and that was something that she was not going to be able to survive with. Unless another witch decided to come around and take away her memories again. Then perhaps that would be, “As much as I would love to have sex with you and then regret it and realize it means nothing and it’s just to get satifiscation and a damn good work out – pretty sure you had a train of girls and I just don’t feel like getting into that line you know?” Srunching her nose she tilted her head as her shoulders came up and dropped down. “So why don’t you just go to one of them and tell them sweet nothings and get the job done. I hear a book calling my name if we’re compeltely honest.”

“You wouldn’t be saying that if you actually knew my life,” He snapped back. Jackson usually wasn’t so rude, but with all the confusion with his ex-wife, his novels, seeing Autumn again and the switch back; he wasn’t in the mood for someone to judge his life. “No, he didn’t fucking die,” The guardian said disgusted at her bluntness. “She cheated on me and left me.” Jackson crossed his arms over his body and turned away from the woman, “You know what? I’m really not in the mood for your opinions right now Amelia. It’s not like it’s ever going to happen again.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What a mediocre way to have lead your life.” Amelia had no filter, and she was not about to get one just cause she was back in this stupid institution. “Let me guess she died? Honestly never got why anyone that isn’t human would go there – it’s like you’re asking for trouble. Just ask a demon to send you to hell – gets the job done ten times easier.”

“Yeah...” He smirked his lips. “I was just worried maybe something happened that made me forget seeing you or being somewhere I wasn’t.” Jackson’s eyebrows farrowed. “Right, did you drink too much or did something happen to you?” The guardian adjusted his weight trying to understand the situation. “No, I haven’t seen you before now. I got here late... after the bonfire.”
Tumblr media
“Wasn’t I the one just asking those questions?” he narrows his gaze back, looking at the other, “No, I can’t even remember last nigh!. Why do you think I’m asking?” he’s confused as hell, as he rubs at his face, “ had he seen him before right now? He groans quietly, trying to remember. But still, bits and flashes.

“Yeah... that’s understandable. Been an intense week around here.” He sighed deeply. “We will thought... let’s just go to our reunion to see all our old friends.” Jackson breathed out heavy and pursed his lips. “Boy, were we naive.” The guardian looked up at the woman and nodded his head. “Really? How so?” He asked curiously but didn’t wanna push too hard.
Tumblr media
“I’m as fine as I can be right now” she lied. It just wasn’t something she wanted to get into, or even bring up. “That’s a good thing” she offers him another weak smile. “Need someone like that.. mostly a lot”

“I’m glad I helped you then.” He smirked gently, breaking the intense stare. “Good thing, i’m not a big fan of them,” Jackson roll his eyes. “You’re a detective though? Hmm.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Much worse. I could still be stuck.” She didn’t break his stare. “I could do this all day, you know. I’m a detective. Staring contests are part of how I make my living,” she teased, lips curving into a small smile.

“I... yeah,” He looked down at his shoes and sighed. “I really enjoyed being this age... things made sense,” He confessed. Jackson felt ashamed to talk about what had happened to him, what he had been through and what he did after graduation. The blonde man had been filled with so much inspiration and joy, and all of a sudden everything had been shattered. “I’m a novel author,” He said simply not wishing to go into detail about his failure. “I was also married to a woman named Claire... but not anymore,” His voice was low as he turned away. “She was a human.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You’re excited?” Her words were laced with disbelief, mostly because this was a spell that she was not amused with. She didn’t want to be back in this age and this body, though she couldn’t deny that this body was capable of doing a lot more than her real one but still it meant having to deal with people and their lack of respect. People doubting that she could hold a title of power but that had never mattered and she should probably go back to that mindset, “I never asked – given what has taken place but what did become of you life after we graduated? What are you in the mood for?”
