How exactly do Shermie and their mom pass away?

(Or is that a spoiler...)

Not a spoiler, really. The way they die doesn't tie into anything else. They got into a car accident on their way to Oregon.

Shermie, Mrs. Pines, the twins and Caryn were planning a surprise visit to Gravity Falls. They thought the twins could use some fresh air over the summer and Shermie wanted to see his brother again (who he, at this time, believed to be Ford).

The car accident happened while the Pines were out grocery shopping. The twins were being watched by Caryn back at their motel room.

After the accident, Caryn called Stan, who picked up the twins and brought them to the Mystery Shack, while Caryn returned to New Jersey.

Hey hi hello!! So for the Uncle Stan au, if I have the general timeline right, Stan came to help ford and accidentally pushed him through the portal and lost him, and then just half a year later his older brother ALSO dies and now he- the last pines kid- has to take care of his late older brother’s two children while barely being able to take care of himself. It’s even MORE traumatic for Stan than canon!!! :D

Do the kids ever learn about the portal? Or that something ever even happened to ford? Or do they still think Stanley is Stanford still and that their other uncle is just.. gone?? Maybe they heard vague stories about their uncles twin who got kicked out but the family is all hush hush about him. Maybe they never knew he had a twin in the first place. GAAHHHH SO MANY QUESTIONS SO MANY THOUGHTS. I’m gonna be thinking about this for WEEKS you don’t understand

Heyy, sorry it took me so long to answer this one. You are right, timeline wise. I accidentally made it worse for Stan than in canon in some ways. 😅

Though I like to think that he's glad to have the twins around instead of living there alone, even if they are a handful.

The twins do learn about the secret basement, and the portal does get used again at some point.

The twins were vaguely familiar with both Stan and Ford before the Portal Incident, but not enough to catch on to Stan suddenly pretending to be his brother. Stan would still have to fake his own death, and at that point, the twins believed that both Stanley and Shermie were dead, and Stanford was the one that took them in.

They were still very young when their parents died, so before that, they didn't care much for family drama, but their father had told them about his two brothers, who had only recently reconnected again.

I really love exploring more of the Pines family dynamics. Though I am a little mad at myself that I killed Shermie and the twins' mom off so quickly, since I only get to show them in flashbacks. Oh well, anything to make the twins grow up in Gravity Falls.

i bet ford is gonna change his stubbornness once he finds out shermie is dead and stan has been raising there niece and nephew alone also feel guilty that fiddleford is homeless and divorced because he didn't take his trauma seriously at first

Things with Ford are going to play out quite a bit different from how they do in canon.

Good news for Fidds though:

He leaves Gravity Falls before the Portal accident happens and goes back to his kid and wife in Palo Alto. He does struggle a lot with memory issues and dealing with his past trauma at first, but by the time his son is a teenager he managed to work through most of it and is in a good place mentally.

Emma-May and Fiddleford do separate at some point, but they do so on relatively good terms. Co-parenting seems to suit them rather well and Fidds manages to continue the work he abandoned to go to Gravity Falls.

He does try to contact Ford after a while, but their conversations are curt and a little strange. Fidds assumes that Ford is angry with him for leaving, so he lets it go. Last he heard the man opened a tourist trap, so he figures Ford abandoned his project.

Fiddleford does miss his friend, but the way they left things off felt rather final and he does not, ever, want to return to Gravity Falls, so he concentrates on his work and being a good father to Tate, who means the world to him.

This man was a walking tragedy in canon, so I really want to just give him a break here.

wait. so in the uncle stan au is everyone just a generation younger (skipped one generation) or just the pines brothers a greneration older? how does it work?

Good question, I wasn't quite sure myself how I wanted to make the timeline work but right now, I have it so that one generation is skipped.

The story would take place around 20 years earlier than it does in canon. So it would be the 90s instead of the early 2010s.

All of the child/young adult characters basically take the place of their parents, timeline wise.

I love your GF AU and artstyle sm! Will McGucket make an appearance? I just want to know since he wasn't with them when they went and found the frozen dinos and that is pretty much the McGucket ep of S1 if we don't count Tourist Trapped

The reason McGucket is not in the AU version of Land Before Swine is that he was not in Gravity Falls at the time.

He left to go back to Palo Alto before the Portal Incident happened. Both he and his son Tate will turn up at some point, though I don't know how big a role he will play yet.

How old are Dipper and Mabel when Ford comes back to Gravity Falls? Does he even return to their dimension in this AU? What role does Bill have in this AU, if at all?

I don't wanna give everything away just yet, but yes, Ford does make an appearance in the AU.

Bill is also a big factor, Weirdmageddon does still happen, just a little differently than in canon.

what year does your UncleStan AU take place?

The timeline of the show gets kind of pushed back in my AU

So, the portal incident happened in 1982 during winter. Stan takes in the kids around half a year later in 1983.

I'll mostly cover the years between 1988, when the twins are 12, and 1993, just before they turn 17.

Dipper in the UncleStanAU

Personality wise he is very similar to his canon counterpart by the time he turns 13, but in his first few months in Gravity Falls he was a very quiet and subdued child.

Investigating the towns weirdness and going on adventures with his sister is what brought him out of his shell again. He is also still very much obsessed with DD&D and started his own Pen and Paper Club at school.

- Twig's (Dipper's pet Archaeopteryx) egg and tge dinosaur cave was one of the first entries he added

- Ran out of room in the journal and started his own

> is joined in his investigations by either his sister, Wendy, Ollie or sometimes Soos

> had filled his own journal by the age of 15

- Had to keep his investigations a secret from Stan, during the first few months

> He wasn't very happy when he found out

- They ended up talking it out and now Stan joins them often
