JAZ: ... ignoring the fact that you have no faith in my abilities JAZ: Which like, fair but still rude :P JAZ: No one said that both isn't an option.
LENA: i'll see what i can do! LENA: hmm, a zoo is an option. i actually haven't been to one of those in a long time! one that lets you pet or interact with animals would be a ton of fun. LENA: but dinner is also a really good option. i won't even laugh if you burn something!

"If a book is telling you all that on its last page, it probably means it didn't do a good job with developing the story throughout. I think the way I approached it was more like, wanting to know the point we're getting to and trying to figure out how we get there." Jasmine shrugged. "But maybe I was doing too much for some story. Just as is life, I suppose."
Oliver refilled the stack of brochures for the table, and turned his head towards Jaz. He gave her a nod to go ahead and ask her question. Chuckling a little, he grinned. “Actually, a lot of people do that. They want to know if the couple gets together at the end, or if the society survives…” he nodded slowly. “I try to talk them out of doing it, but that kind of makes them want to do it more. Then they’ll pout at me for a day because the ending isn’t want they wanted.”

"Yeah well, the same temperature can get boring so sometimes you need to open a window," she answered simply in her weird philosophical way. "The popcorn button is never the right amount of time, so if you could prevent him from touching it that would probably be better. Now if we're done here I'm gonna head back in."
“It gives hot and cold with you so knowing when you’re being genuine is not going to be easy to spot when you … I don’t want to assume but your energy just comes off as having walls up which I get. I don’t have an obligation to anyone or do anything I don’t want to, I didn’t mind offering but don’t worry about it. I’ll make sure your brother knows the popcorn button exists.”

"Maybe I'm not trying to stand out like that. Or maybe I'm just," she paused for emphasis, "easy to miss." Jasmine let the double meaning hang for a moment, taking a moment to regard Aisha. "Either way, I'm here now if there's anything you think you need to say."
Eyes flitting between the paper handed and Jasmine, she met her eyes. She may not have crossed paths with her in town as of late, and although some part of her believed it'd been just bad timing, she wouldn't tell herself it was because of any other reason. Her lips tugged up slightly at her comment, a small shrug of her shoulders as if she couldn't say anything to argue with it. "Maybe it is hard to keep an eye on everything, but I thought I'd notice you even with the crowd."

"Not that I need you to, but you'd probably like me more if you realized that this is me-" showing affection was probably a little too strong, "- being nice, Whitney. You don't have to feel obligated to do anything in return. So yeah, anyway, you too."
“Not every woman offering you something means flirting.” She replied. “Don’t be weird.” She was offering to be considerate. Her eyes rolled at the stupid nickname. “ Naomi works just fine. Anyway, Jasmine. Have a good afternoon.”

"Me leaving you alone the past few months wasn't a nice gesture?" A half attempt at a joke. At Naomi's offer, Jasmine countered, "now, horse girl, I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that you're not my type, plus you're more than dating my brother so..."
“I don’t mean it in a bad way, just we haven’t really talked since the snowstorm so it took me by surprise.” She shrugged. “Not used to the whole nice energy being reciprocated .” It felt foreign along with trusting others. “Can’t say I talk to those on my floor but I’ll extend the olive branch by not using the microwave just yet and actually making you a home cooked meal. If you want, whatever you want with fresh ingredients.”

Jasmine took the copy of Plain Bad Heroines she'd been rifling through and placed it back on the display, shooting the little one of the family Oliver was talking to a close-mouthed smile. "Kind of got a question for you," she directed towards Oliver as the family walked off, "when I was younger I used to always read the last pages of books first - is that weird?"
Who: Oliver & open!
Where: Merrock Library
When: Pride Weekend (Drag Queen Storytime)
“We’ve got plenty of books highlighting not just LGBTQ+ stories, but the authors as well. And there’s some nonfiction books about queer icons in history,” Oliver said, gesturing to the table. He had spent a good amount of his time setting it up on theme and making the display look presentable and exciting. “So let me know if you’ve got any questions or are looking for something specific,” he smiled. “Storytime is about to start in fifteen minutes,” he checked his watch. “Oh, and I’ve got stickers!”

Jasmine looked between the two books, then to the person holding them. "The 'you should support local businesses' in me makes me want to tell you to buy them both, but the 'you should support local libraries,' in me wants to tell you to get one of them there and if you think you'll want to read it again, buy a copy for yourself." She shrugged. "Nothing greedy about either option though."
LOCATION: Pride Event around Bookends WHO: Siobhan and TBD WHEN: June 8
"This has been said a thousand times I just know it. But I really don't know where to start. I want to read more nonfiction but this one looks too good," Siobhan said. She said it to herself but then she also realized she wasn't alone looking through the different titles on the shelf. She glanced at them and smiled wanly and held up the two books as though she was the shelf display. "Maybe I should both but I don't want to be greedy. But I've been wanting to read 'In the Dream House' forever." That was the nonfiction book.

Maybe not spoil them like that unless that's the vibe you're going for. Like, that stereotypical 'rich aunt' who always has stories from her travels and comes back with presents. I'm more the 'let's play in the dirt and do messy crafts' type.
Can never have enough "cool aunties' in the world; mine love me, probably because I give them toys and money, but what can you do?

"It's not sacrilegious. I'm not some sort of guitar purist. I learned off of an instrument that belonged to someone else." And then, when she knew she loved it, she'd graduated into getting her own. She looked to Jaz's hand for a second before taking it and giving it a shake. "Tell me the time and place and I'll be there."

"And you, 'of all people,' still seem to think I have a problem with you for no reason, and I mean that both ways," - that Naomi thought Jaz had a problem with her when she didn't, and that Jaz hated her or something just for nothing. "Sometimes people just do nice things for their neighbors, or siblings' partners. But, sure, you're welcome."
“Yeah, but I would’ve got it eventually.” It had died out because her old one had been with her since she first moved out for college. “No no no, I’m keeping it. Just shocked it came from you of all people.” She had mentioned it once in passing and it was on her to do list. “You didn’t have to do that but I appreciate it.”

" You needed one, right? So either that, or JD's gonna unintentionally break yours by making popcorn or something dumb like that. But I can take it back if you don't want it."
“How…” she tried to find the word as she stood in front of Jaz’s door. “Thoughtful of you.” She wasn’t sure what to even call the gesture. “Thank you but the real question is why?”

ft. @naomiayodele Where: Their building
[Left outside of Naomi's door, a large cardboard box that has a drawing of a horse head with a speech bubble that says 'Nay' on the top of it.
Inside, a note that reads 'really you should be giving *me* presents this month, but I heard you needed one of these' ]

JAZ: Okay well you have a year to work on it til you're 'thirty-one and havin' fun' JAZ: I meant like, taking you to a zoo or something but not if that's going to make you sick. JAZ: I could make you dinner or something? But again don't have high expectations.
LENA: i'm not really sure that i've ever been flirty! thriving... that might work. and i am definitely thirty, i'm an old lady now! LENA: no, no, i'd think it's fun until i'm doing it, and then i would throw up, and that would be the worst birthday celebration ever. LENA: you know that good mocktails + me is a win, though. or food. i do really love food.
