i'm in kyiv for the week for the first time in 4 years.
russia launched 300+ drones at ukraine last night over the course of 5 hours; one of the biggest attacks of the war so far. the explosions were constant, some of them so close that our building was shaking from the impact. i could hear the buzzing of the shaheds overhead; normally, russia sends around 5-7 of these drones to kyiv every night, but last night, it was around 40. by the time the sun came up, the cloud of smoke that hung over kyiv was so dark that you couldn't see the sky.
but being pulled out of bed at 2 am under threat of ballistics and drone attacks has been an average experience for ukrainians for over 3 years now. they're used to it, they say "I'm from sumy/zaporozhzhia/kramatorsk, this is nothing". it doesn't matter if they're tired or they've been bombed out of their homes, they still have to get up and go to work or school or run errands and do all the things that make their country function while russia tries to grind it down by turning their peaceful skies into fire.
don't forget about them. don't forget about what's happening here in ukraine.

The way Ukrainian lives are treated as expendable material by Western countries needs to be studied. And it will be in the future, and there will be annoying self-important empty discourse and art on "How did we allow that", I can feel it

My dad raises grass-fed beef cattle and I help him sell it, mainly by maintaining an online presence. For a while, I kept having the most ridiculous conversations with people who I assume were marketing students. I didn't want to be rude so I'd try to let them down gently but this one guy just kept insisting that with his magical marketing skills he could grow our business.
What he could not seem to comprehend is that we could not grow our business, at least not without significant time and monetary investment. Cows take two years from pregnancy to the size that you can sell. If we buy adult cows, our margins become razor thin or even negative. Even if we somehow could acquire some cows, our barn and hay fields are already near maximum capacity. Renting another field would be relatively easy, building a bigger barn not so much.
Cows are living animals, they aren't widgets that can be produced infinitely. Besides that, many businesses inherently cannot grow, because if they do they'll become something else. The delicious bakery down the street cannot produce much more than they do, if they began mass marketing and production they'd eventually be selling the equivalent of Twinkies. We grow grass-fed, organic beef, if we expanded how long would that last? Eventually we'd become the very factor farms that we hate. Some things can only ever be made on a small scale and they are usually the best things.
But also, what are they teaching them at marketing school and how is it so disconnected from reality?

at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

It's the same people who say that "group that is helping you, but not enough" and "group that is actively and enthusiastically hunting you and your family for sport with the explicit goal of exterminating you" are equally bad.
I saw some of them argue in all seriousness that rainbow capitalism is not any better than being sent to a gulag for being gay.
I never got the whole don’t threaten me with the Supreme Court thing in 2016. Hillary Clinton wasn’t threatening anything when she said if she lost democrats were going to lose the Supreme Court for a long time. She was telling you what the consequences of her losing would be and she was right. It’s not a threat to tell you the realistic outcome of an election.

Top 5 Yamcha moments
I blanked. It’s been a hot minute since i thought about it lol. So in an effort to make this response slightly less boring looking and also more entertaining for myself, I decided to doodle anything i could recall from memory.
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER.
• That entire fuckin Yamcha vs. Tien fight
Tumblr media
• That time in the red ribbon arc where Yamcha dressed like this:
Tumblr media
• that time Yamcha showed up in GT and he didn’t say or do anything but it made me happy knowing he’s living his life contently away from the franchises constant bullshit
Tumblr media
• THAT TIME YAMCHA UNVEILED THE SPIRIT BALL AT THE 23rd BUDOKAI
Tumblr media
• And of course, the time Yamcha said lolis were shit and he doesn’t like ‘em right after knocking out ChiChi, then driving off in his playskool car. We STAN!!!!
Tumblr media
 and that’s the tea
