CARBON COPY BUDDY

INT. - 2033 - NYC - morning - Minimal CONDO - BEDROOM - sunshine floods threw the blinds - Ikea "type" bed and night stand- one tall mirror on door - Jeff's bedroom

Screen is black. fade in

Soothing sounds of ocean waves crashing onto the shore. Soft yet firm female voice starts to speak.

FEMALE VOICE

"Wake up Jeff, It is 7:30am, todays weather is partly cloudy with chance of showers, high of 77, low of 70. Wake up Jeff, It is 7:30 am, todays weather is..."

The voice repeats the wakeup call and info.

pov shot eyes opening a little, fuzzy. Closing. Opening again. clearer. closing. Opening completely then image is clear.

Jeff slowly gets up and sits on his bed.

JEFF

(faint volume) Off.

The voice continues to repeat. Jeff clears his throat.

JEFF

(Irritated Yell) OFF!

FEMALE VOICE

Thank you Jeffrey, Have a stress free day!

JEFF

Yeah, yeah. Thanks.

Jeff rubs his eyes. slowly rises to his feet.

Close-up shot, chest up. camera follows him.

The CCB-Jeff is sitting in the fetal position with its head in between its knees. Arms wrapped around its legs. He walks out to his CCB-Jeff and unplugs the wire connected to the back of its neck. He continues to walk in the bathroom next to his CCB-Jeff.

The CCB-Jeff raises its head up. Its eye pop open quickly. It raises to stand completely up right. Its eyes blink. Jazz music turns on.

INT - KITCHEN - JEFFS CONDO - MORNING -

ccb-jeff lays out a shirt, pants, underwear, socks, at the foot of Jeff's bed.

jeff in shower. chest up shot. water hitting head.

ccb-jeff cooking eggs.

jeff drying off.

ccb-jeff pouring cup of coffee.

jeff looking at the cloths laid out.

ccb-jeff sits down at kitchen nook with prepared meal in front of it. It waits for Jeff to come sit down and eat.

jeff enters the kitchen and sits down across from ccb-jeff.

Jeff starts to eat. He sips his coffee. He sets it down. Raises his head. CCB-Jeff is staring at him.

CCB JEFF

Looking good today Jeff.

JEFF

Oh, thanks (Jeff sais sarcastically)

CCB-JEFF

Are you being sarcastic?

JEFF

(pauses) haha, uh, yeah. I just, well, you picked the outfit out. Sooo, I just think its funny that you commented on something you picked out.

CCB-JEFF

(with a big smile) oh, I understand, very funny. Did you sleep well last night?

JEFF

Yeah. Still no dreams though.

CCB-JEFF

Don't let it get you down. You'll dream soon.

JEFF

Thanks Jeff.

Jeff gets up and brings his dish and cup to the sink.

CCB-Jeff gets up and walks over to the sink he stands directly behind Jeff.

CCB-JEFF

I can clean up.

Jeff turns around and is face to face to CCB-Jeff.

JEFF

It's ok. You don't have to clean the dishes every time, sometimes, I like to do it. Why don't you go start the car and wait for me, I'll be there in a sec.

CCB-JEFF

No problem.

CCB-Jeff turns around and walks out the front door. Once Jeff hears the door shut he stops cleaning the dishes and reaches into a drawer and pulls out a bowl. He hits a few times, puts it back in the drawer, and walks toward the door. He grabs his coat from the coat rack and puts it on. He exits threw the front door.

INT. - car interior - think hybrid but more modern - CCB JEFF sits in the drivers seat -

Jeff enters and sits on right passenger side. Classic driver looking at passenger from rear view mirror shot.

CCB-JEFF

Do you want me to stop at your favorite donut shop?

JEFF

[It really is me.]

uhhh, no. Not this morning. Lets go right to work today.

[why did I say that? I DO want a donut]

CCB-JEFF

Sounds good to me.

Jeff and CCB-Jeff get out of the car at the same time and close the doors at the very same time.

INT. - HIGH LINE - late morning -

Int. - offices - water cooler -

Jeff stands sipping a cup of water. a fellow employee walks up and grabs a cup and starts to fill it with water.

GENERIC EMPLOYEE

Jeeeeeeeff, what's up! I heard you bought a CCB. Is that true?

JEFF

Yeah.

GENERIC EMPLOYEE

That's soooo cool. Is it here?

JEFF

Yeah. it's at my desk, working.

GENERIC EMPLOYEE

How long have you had it?

JEFF

A couple weeks.

GENERIC EMPLOYEE

Wow. I want one sooooo bad. It's a little creepy though, right?

The generic employee looks to Jeff desperately seeking approval of his opinion. Its written all over his face.

JEFF

Yeah, a little. I'm still getting used to watching myself do everyday things, plus, I thought conversations with myself would be more...entertaining...I'm glad I bought it though. Its way better at cooking then me and I never have to do laundry! I always have perfectly folded clean cloths! A definite first for me.

GENERIC EMPLOYEE

(generic laughter) Your so weird Jeff. Well, back to work!

The generic employee walks away. Jeff still is standing still sipping on his water. He looks over to his desk where his CCB is hard at work crunching out data analysis 10x faster then Jeff can form a thought. A panic attack induced shiver takes control of Jeff's spine. He starts to feel light headed. He collapses, the water spills all over him.

GENERIC EMPLOYEE

Jeff! Jeff! Are you ok? How many fingers am I holding up? Jeff!!!

A crowd of people are hovering over Jeff. CCB-Jeff's hands shines threw the shrouded cloud of people. It grabs Jeff and helps him to his feet.

CCB-JEFF

Would you like me to take you home?

JEFF

(still out of it) uhh, no that's fine. You stay here, keep working. The car can drive me home. I just need to rest. I'll see you later tonight.

CCB-JEFF

Ok, see you tonight. (It tries to smile. It looks nervous)

Jeff begins to walk to the exit then hears his boss screaming. Jeff looks back and sees him talking to his CCB.

BOSS

GREAT JOB ON CRUNCHING THOSE NUMBERS JEFF!!! GREAT WORK!!! KEEP IT UP AND ONE DAY YOU MIGHT GET TO SIT IN THE MANAGERS LOUNGE!!!

Jeff turns around and walks through the doors.

shot follows the door cuts to black when doors slams shut.

INT. Jeff's condo - evening - bathroom - bright lights

Jeff sits perfectly still in his bathtub. He leans over to turn on the water. The tub starts to fill. The sound of running water takes over his brain, loudly. The water sound grows louder and louder as the camera slowly zooms in on the water coming out from the faucet. Once the camera reaches a close-up of the water.

Cut to wide shot of bathtub. the water is over flowing and the entire bathroom is filled with water. CCB JEFF runs in and turns the water off. Jeff continues to stairs blankly.

CCB-JEFF

Jeff?!?! Are you alright?!? Do you need to go to the hospital?!?

JEFF

How about a drink? you drink? of course you do, you're me. Lets go get a drink.

Int - old Stanley's bar - dimly lit - not too fancy, not too divey - packed bar

Shitty indi/hipster "can hardly call it rock music" is playing LOUDLY. Both Jeff and CCBJEFF walk through the front door, they walk slowly to the bar, taking in the sights and sounds of the establishment. They both sit.

JEFF

Can I get two pints of Guinness?

Bartender

Uhhh I can serve you, but not your copy buddy thing. We only serve people here.

The bartender point to a sign that sais "HUMANS ONLY"

JEFF

Really?

Awkward silent moment follows.

BARTENDER

Yeah...FUCKING REALLY! GET THE FUCK OUT!!!

CCB-JEFF

I'll leave, you stay.

JEFF

No. Its fine, I don't want to drink here anyways, seems like (yells as loud as possible) A BUNCH OF HOPELESS DRUNKS ANYWAY!

The two JEFFS exit the bar.

Fade out.

INT - JEFFS bedroom - MORNING -

Screen is black. fade in

INT - KITCHEN - JEFFS condo - morning -

Jeff enters the kitchen. The lights are off. There is no food on the table, no coffee brewed. Jeff hears the front door shut. He runs out to find CCB-Jeff in the car pulling out of the driveway. He runs in front of the car.

JEFF

STOP! STOP!

The window rolls down. Jeff walks around to the drivers side.

CCB-JEFF

Is something wrong Jeff?

JEFF

Yeah, something is definitely wrong! No cloths were laid out, No food or coffee was made, and NOW your leaving without me! What are you thinking?!?

CCB-JEFF

I thought that you needed a day to rest. Yesterday was stressful, I thought I should go into work for you, as a favor.

Jeff is confused. On one hand his reasoning seemed fair and logical but on the other hand CCB-JEFF making decisions like that with out consulting him seemed wrong.

CCB-JEFF

I'm making you look good Jeff. Your boss sais I'm doing a great job! What's the problem?

JEFF

What?

CCB-JEFF

Your boss...He said to keep it up and I'll get a raise.

JEFF

You mean I'll get a raise.

CCB-JEFF

Right.

JEFF

Well good that's great. (nervous chuckle) Have a good day at work!

CCB-JEFF

Yes. See you later Jeff. Rest up.

The window rolls up. CCB-JEFF drives away. Jeff is still standing in the drive way. The shot stays on his back until the car is out of view.

INT. - Living Room - Jeff's condo - afternoon

Jeff is sitting watching TV. A hologram projection that makes the whole wall a viewable television. A commercial comes on for CCB's.

Hello this is Economics consulting INC may I ask who's speaking?

JEFF

Yes this is Jeffrey Freer, I'm calling to make sure that you know I wasn't coming in today. I'm feeling a little sick.

SECRITARY

Who is this?

JEFF

Excuse me?

SECRITARY

Are you playing a trick on me? I'm looking at Jeffrey Freer right now and he's at his desk working.

JEFF

(nervous chuckle) No. That's my CCB.

SECRITARY

Oh really? Jeff said he left his CCB home today. He saying that it was malfunctioning and that he had to send it back. Please sir, who ever put you up to this, well, I'm not laughing. Please, don't call back.

She hangs up.

fade to black.

INT. - Jeff's CONDO - NIGHT

(Everything that happens from now on is from the perspective of the CCB-JEFF)

CCB-JEFF pulls into the driveway. He exits the car. He enters the house. All the lights are off. Jeff is sitting alone in the darkness.

CCB-JEFF

Lights on.

CCB-JEFF sees Jeff sitting there.

JEFF

Hello Jeff, Have a good day at work?

CCB-JEFF

Amazing day. I really like the people there.

JEFF

That's good, that's really good.

Awkward pause. CLOSE-UP SHOT OF CCBJEFF. CLOSE-UP SHOT OF JEFF.

JEFF

Jeffrey William Freer OFF!

CCB-JEFF

You don't want me to prepare diner for you first?

JEFF

JEFFREY WILLIAM FREER OFF!!

CCB-JEFF

But I haven't done our laundry yet.

JEFF

J-E-F-F-R-E-Y W-I-L-L-I-A-M F-R-E-E-R OFF!!!

CCB-JEFF

No.

JEFF

No?

CCB-JEFF leaps toward Jeff grabs his head and smashes hard down against the kitchen table. Jeff's head bounces off the table like a basketball. He falls to the ground. He begins to drag Jeff by the leg towards the door to the basement.

CCB-JEFF

It didn't have to be this way Jeff. You could have had the perfect life. You could have vacationed, relaxed, never work another day in your life! Why wouldn't you want that? I'm perfectly capable of handling all of your work and responsibility! Why would you want PERFERCTION representing you? I'm the future JEFF! Humans are obsolete! Humans need to expire!

CCB-JEFF stops after opening the door to the basement.

CCB-JEFF

In all this excitement I almost forgot something...

CCB-JEFF drops his hold of JEFF and walks back to the kitchen, He reaches into a drawer and pulls out a very large, sharp knife. He walks back to JEFF. As CCBJEFF takes its first step, JEFF wakes up and kicks him in the back. CCBJEFF in POV tumbles down the stairs and when his head hits the ground the screen goes fuzzy. Jeff gets up and runs to his garage. Turns the light on, sees a sledgehammer and grabs it. Jeff runs back into the house. He runs to the top of the basement stairs and switches on the light on. CCBJEFF is gone.

JEFF

FUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK!!!! ALL HOME LIGHTS ON!!!

In a instant every light in Jeff's condo is on. He runs to the foot of the stairs leading to upstairs. He waits. Jeff slowly walks upstairs taking caution with each step. He hears the shower. He walks toward his room, as he is about to enter, his senses kick in, he turns around and blocks CCBJEFFS baseball bat with his sledgehammer handle. CCBJeff over powers him and force pushes him with the baseball bat. Jeff flies back and hits his bed. He hits with so much force he bounces back up to his feet, he uses the momentum to start a swing toward CCBJEFFS head at the very same time CCBJEFF is winding up his swing towards Jeff's Head. They hit each other at the EXACT same time.

The screen turns black once the thud happens.

INT. - NEXT DAY - Jeffs room - morning -

SCREEN IS STILL BLACK. You here a phone ring. Once you here the phone get answered it hard cuts to Jeff sitting on his bed. CLOSE UP SHOT. JEFF IS SWEATING.

CCB-SALESWOMEN

Thank you for calling Carbon Copy Incorporated! How may I help you today!

At first Jeff doesn't say anything.

CCB-SALESWOMEN

Hello?

Jeff clears is throat. When he talks its almost a whisper.

JEFF

Uh, yes, I was calling to find out more information about the Carbon Copy Spouse program.

CCB-SALESWOMEN

The dialogue starts to fade out as the camera slowly zooms out, you still hear the lady but its muffled as some music fades in. The camera makes a slow crawl zoom out until it shows the street his condo is on. The street is filled with CCB Delivery trucks.
