Analysis of Sadie and Lars' Relationship

SPOILER ALERT FOR STEVEN UNIVERSE FUTURE AND ALL OF SADIE AND LARS' CHARACTER ARCS!!!

TRIGGER WARNING: Slight manipulation mention

Sadie and Lars’ relationship has been one of the fan-favorite subplots of Steven Universe. A longstanding expectation that the two would eventually resolve the romantic tension between them and end up in a relationship. However, because of the past events that transpired between them, staying friends and moving on was likely the best option for them both rather than chasing a relationship whose window had already closed.

The biggest hindrance to Sadie and Lars’ hopes of a relationship was Lars’ past dismissive and manipulative view of Sadie and what she did for him. “Joking Victim” can best provide a window into their relationship history. When Sadie was at her most infatuated with Lars, he took advantage of her favoring him and used her to avoid his responsibilities. Lars blatantly uses her fond memories and view of him to push her into giving him time off at her personal expense. His dismissive attitude towards her only aided in making her feel ignored in her life, which is something made clear in “Sadie’s Song” when her mother doesn’t pay her any mind until she snaps.

Although “Island Adventure” proved that the chemistry and love were definitely there between them, Lars was still not mature enough and Sadie was still trying to find her self-confidence. This self-confidence is found once she forms “Sadie Killer and the Suspects”, as she finally has an outlet for her emotions as well as people paying attention to and validating her expression.

After the dust settled and Lars finally makes it to Earth with the Off Colors during the series finale, it is later revealed in “Little Graduation” that while Sadie and Lars did attempt to reconnect, there wasn’t enough common ground anymore for them to rekindle anything.

In the end, Lars and Sadie did their best to maturely handle the situation by moving on. Although “Little Graduation” makes it clear that Lars still has some feelings for Sadie, he’s still doing his best to be happy for her. Sadie finally found the confidence she needed, and communicated it beautifully in the song “Looking Forward”, which is entirely focused on her growing and moving on with her new partner Shep.

I hope I didn't remember it wrong as its been a while since I've read it but Darkstalker came off as a super caring brother, I mean until another certain scene..

There was in fact a background, and the concept was really cute in my mind. But I just wasn't liking it, At some point I might redraw this and include that background. But No Idea if and when that might be.

Its on my bucket list to rewatch MLP so I can finally watch the last season but the idea that (after the last season) twilight has to watch all her friends die over and over again over the span of years and years until she’s too afraid to grow attatched to anyone anymore and pushes everyone away out of fear that she’ll just have to go through the pain of watching them die is insanely dark and twisted but at the same time it seems like a super interesting plot

I’m so thankful for younger me cuz when I first got into WoF I couldn’t draw dragons so I remember sitting at my desk in school for ages trying to figure out how to draw them. If it wasn’t for that rare act of stubbornness and persistence from younger me I would NOT know how to draw them now

Tbh this goes for a lot of fandoms but it’s smth I see with WoF characters a lot. I hate the trope of making blind characters wear a blindfold or any other form of eye covering. Because just why. Why do they have to do that. Light sensitivity is a valid reason for this, but not every fucking blind dragon is going to have that. And covering the eyes of a partially sighted character is only going to hinder them more (WHICH!!! IS ANOTHER THING. BLINDNESS IS A SPECTRUM AND NOT JUST SIGHT OR NO SIGHT).

And then there’s also the fact that eye coverings are pretty just. Iffy. Like general. It stems from people not wanting to see visibly different looking eyes, or disabled people feeling conscious or disgusted over how they look.

I knowwww they’re dragons and this is a niche confession but like. Guys. Guys just think for a few seconds. This is honestly such a basic thing but it shocks me how many people either don’t know this or purposefully ignore it.
