anne maria might have gone down with a yelp, but she rises with a vengeance. manicured claws ready to throw down against the grubby hands that had shoved her into zoey ( if she was gonna fight zoey, she was gonna fight on her own terms, and AT LEAST take her earrings out first, for real !! ). there is jealousy and possession over a shared interest between them, but anne maria's not a BAD PERSON, she fights fair, and this -- well, this ain't the time or place.

she's bent knees and scraped hands -- but not a hair out of place !! -- and a flicker of worry in her dark eyes. "you sure ??" she asks, not quite an apology, almost disbelieving her, but not pushing. zoey says she's fine ?? fine with her !! anne maria is more than happy to turn their energy onto a shared enemy instead.

her frown sets, perfectly plucked brows furrowed as she looks over her shoulder and pushes herself up too, dirt wiped from her palms, her capris. "no kiddin', jeez, what a CREEPER !! they don't teach them manners or nothin' on the farm ?? oh, i'll teach him a lesson alright."

and appreciate how damn fine he was, anne maria did ( although she wasn't exactly ready to throw away the big bucks -- or her life, for that matter -- but a girl could get used to THIS !! ).

"c'mon," she says, reluctantly unraveling herself from the finest man she could have found herself wrapped up in, only to take his hand and start away from the noise she heard. whatever it was, she hoped it wasn't fast ( but she couldn't deny it would be kind of THRILLING to see vito defend her honor or whatever, save her life, the whole shebang !! ). "they always pick on the good-lookin' ones in them movies -- well, nuh-uh, not today !!"

“I mean, I don’t think so. That’d be like, illegal or whatever.”

At least he was pretty sure that would be illegal. He wasn’t exactly invested in the competition enough to risk his life anyway. Who needed a million bucks when he had a million-dollar girl already in his arms? Someone this gorgeous didn’t come around every century, especially not someone who actually appreciated that he was damn fine too.

“No, of course not. It was more of a rhetorical question— W–Wait, me too??” Yep, Anne Maria’s last remark only dawned on him at the very last second, to which they were both lucky Brick didn’t spat out his drink out of surprise. Did he hear her correctly?? She wants him to go with her?? “But I don’t even know what are your plans for today besides going out. I thought you already agreed to meet somebody or something.”

“woah !!  i ain’t bombarding you with a POP QUIZ or nothin’.  it’s nice out, you wanna spend the day all cooped up inside ??”  anne maria gives him a look like I-HIGHLY-DOUBT-THAT.  she passes a mirror and touches up her hair a bit.  “’sides, i’m thinkin’ smoothies and i am NOT going to the smoothie place by myself after last time.”  if the snarky cashier is there, it is ON SIGHT !!

"huh," she says, and really means it. sometimes its just a sound to fill silence, but here, anne maria's gotta hand it to her. some of the other contestants are downright snakeish, but weird as dawn is, she's pretty much just as she seems, isn't she ?? you know, unless it's all an act. "nah, i guess you wouldn't."

anne maria's always got her guard up, just in case ( although, it does have a tendency to slip around certain pretty boys whenever they blow off the chump act ). she's fine to be friends with just anyone, as long as they're worth it.

"protect me ?? it ain't like they can REALLY let us get hurt, right ?? 'sides, if a little radioactive whatevah is gonna try and catch these hands, they can try and catch these hands." perfectly manicured nails ball into fists. dark eyes dart around them briefly to make sure nothing horrible is lurking. "but, uh, hey, if these earrings are really magic, i ain't gonna complain. this place gives me the creeps sometimes, y'know ??"

dawn meets anne maria’s amazed expression with a cool gaze. “ why would i kid about that ? ” they’re one of the things that her parents whole - heartedly agree on : salt in the doorways, occasionally burning herbs to usher in different seasons, and silver on-hand whenever possible.

( she figures her dad buys into it mostly to be able to keep wearing all of his old jewelry from his tour days. )

if she registers anne maria’s repositioning of her hair, it doesn’t bother her. how many people cringe away from her on the regular ? if she was shaken every time it happened, she wouldn’t have any peace.

Brick for sure has learnt of her ways very fast — the perks of being roommates now — and he has been slowly learning more about the world of fashion thanks to her ( and without having to be secretive about it around her, how refreshing!! ). Just as she finished showing off the entire getup, Brick passed along her drink of preference. “So you plan on going out today??”

“ay, thanks,” anne maria takes her drink and bends the straw towards her, holding it between her thumb and forefinger as she takes a decent sip.  rooming with brick turned out to a pretty sweet deal -- they’ve got more in common than she would have initially thought.  “you don’t think i got ALL DOLLED UP just to sit around here, didja ??” she asks, letting her hand which held the straw drop to cup the class with her other hand.  “-- and you’re comin’ too.”
