My Thanksgiving this year was a little unconventional..... My Mom has been looking forward to Thanksgiving ever since I told her the holidays I had off with the new job. Fast forward 8 months, she ended up with Covid. That meant my brother wasn't coming home for the holiday and our big meal was going to have to wait until her energy and appetite returned. So, we've been relaxing in the living room. We started an unconventional marathon for the holiday but one we enjoy. I've taken advantage of the time off and set up my reading journal for next year, or research for school, or a fun craft project for work, or even some reading and writing. We survived all 3 Hobbit films. We're a little over halfway through the Lord of the Rings movies. I've started a new job since the last NaNoWriMo. They've never really gotten to see Writer Jessica. They get a whole month of her now.... It feels like centuries since last November and NaNo. It's been even longer since I've felt rather excited to tackle a new novel. But here I am, at the start of a new NaNo, tackling a novel that I have toyed and tinkered and debated what to do with. I'm tackling YA again, and I'm trying first person for the first time since elementary school. I'm trying something new. I have a TikTok buy. Does that make me cool? Especially if I haven't used the other thing I bought? I love looking at people and their planners and bullet journals on TikTok. There's some pretty creative people out there and I love seeing the different ideas they all use. Sometimes I try to use the ideas my own way and a lot of the markers and pens they use, I already have our have a version of. But as much as I tried, I could never get my love of sticky notes and my love of planners to quite mix. Until now. They're translucent sticky notes! I can use sticky notes to jot down reminders but not cover up any other reminders I have written down. Sometimes, plans change. A day off for one thing ends up being a day for something else. But it's okay. I took part in a prayer meeting at church. I can't explain why I've been slacking with writing. Why something I love and enjoy was something I just didn't want to do. Why I kept pushing to try and publish Book 2 despite not even wanting to write Book 2.... I kept being drawn back to this story. I wanted to step back in with these characters. I just couldn't find the motivation. I'll hang out with them as long as the story keeps flowing. I'm not taking the motivation I randomly have for granted. And who knows. I don't make a lot of posts about my writing process. It always feels a little like overkill to have all my posts always seem to say "Well, I was writing but now I'm not". And, I used to make myself feel so bad that I called myself a writer but it's been a couple years since I published anything. I have some pretty awesome cheerleaders in my corner. I have a couple new ones that have taken on that mantle like they were born for it. And of course, there's my bestie who understands the life of a writer like no other. All those things have come together this November to help me keep working on "Some Kind Of Perfect". I'm nowhere near the on par word count for NaNoWriMo, but I don't care. I'm not rushing through this imperfect perfection. The characters are telling me what they want to tell me. Even though I call myself a writer, there will be times where I just don't want to write. I'll have plenty of ideas that could be written but I just can't bring myself to put pen to page. I wanted to write, I just couldn't. This feels good. It feels like coming home after some time away. Like I'm back to doing what I've always been meant to do.
