Royal Mint unveil Royal Family coin worth £4,110 - it features one Princess
Princess Anne is the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

The very first official UK coin celebrating the Princess Royal has been revealed to mark Anne's 75th birthday and her 'remarkable lifetime of service'. The Royal Mint's commemorative £5 piece, dubbed its 'Anne-iversary coin', was personally approved by the Princess.
It showcases a portrait of the King's sister wearing her Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara, with her hair arranged in her signature bouffant. Surrounding the image is the tribute 'The Princess Royal – Celebrating 75 Years – Duty and Devotion', honouring Anne's unwavering Royal commitment across the decades.
Anne, often regarded as the hardest-working member of the Royal Family, turns 75 on August 15, but has so far insisted her milestone should only be publicly recognised through a charity forum she hosted at Buckingham Palace in June.
Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, said: "For the first time in British numismatic history, we are honoured to celebrate the Princess Royal on an official UK coin. Her Royal Highness’s unwavering commitment to public service, charitable work, and support of His Majesty’s armed forces over seven and a half decades makes her truly deserving of this tribute."

To the right of the portrait, Princess Anne's official coat of arms is depicted, while on the obverse, the King is shown, having given the final approval in honour of his sister. Thomas T Docherty, the coin's creator, said it reflected the Princess’s 'strength of character' and 'understated elegance'. The portrait of Anne's head is based on a photograph of the Princess taken by John Swannell, a Royal Photographic Society fellow, and shows her staring directly at the camera. Mr Docherty said: "I wanted to capture Her Royal Highness’s remarkable legacy and dedication to public service.
"The portrait reflects her strength of character and unwavering commitment to duty.It was really by observing Princess Anne and looking at the role she plays within not only her family but the nation and the Commonwealth that formed inspiration for the design of the coin. "She has, I would say, a kind of understated elegance and strength." Mr Docherty then continued: "Being Scottish, I admire the Princess Royal’s dedication to Scottish organisations and communities, and I hope this coin serves as a fitting tribute."
The art deco diamond and aquamarine Cartier tiara Anne wears was a wedding anniversary gift from King George VI to his wife, Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother. She then passed it on as a wedding gift to her granddaughter Anne in 1973. The Princess is also depicted wearing an aquamarine pendant and earrings, which are believed to have been made from the same tiara when Anne had it altered in the 1990s.
Princess Anne is the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She has survived a kidnapping attempt, competed in the Olympics and spent decades supporting her mother before becoming a vital part of the King’s slimmed-down working monarchy. In 2024, the Princess undertook nearly 400 official engagements – more than any other Royal Family member – despite being hospitalised for five nights in intensive care after a suspected horse-related incident.
The commemorative coin is available to purchase from the Royal Mint’s website on July 18, costing £17.50 for the brilliant uncirculated edition. Other versions of the £5 coin are also available, with a silver proof priced at £110, a silver proof piedfort costing £208, and a gold proof for £4,110. The coin is also being sold in three sets, each featuring either a single George VI threepence or florin or multiple George VI coins from 1950, the year the Princess was born. The prices range from £25 to £4,500.

16 JULY 2025 | Sir Ben Ainslie spoke about the Princess of Wales and the support they have received from her during an interview with hello magazine as he attended the Best of British Sport Lunch at Wimbledon.
"She's very passionate and we keep up to date on what's going on with the sailing teams...she an incredible sailor in her own right.
She's busy, but she keeps in touch as much as she can, which is great, and we're grateful for her support."
He spoke about The Princess of Wales' Sailing Skills during the Sail Grand Prix in Plymouth in 2022 :
"Kate was steering and she was very, very good.
This wasn't just any old boat – this was a catamaran that goes up to 100km per hour – and we won, so she clearly knows what she's doing. I didn't need to give her any tips. She had a great feel for the boat and was fearless, from what I could tell."
Tumblr media
Two-time world champion Hannah Mills who was also in attendance spoke about sailing with The Princess in Plymouth.
"It was very special to have her sail with us," she recalled. "I was pregnant at the time, so we were chatting all things bumps and babies, which was really nice."
Talking about how much the support means she said :
"Having the royals' backing spurs you on, but doing any sport and having your home nation supporting you is very special. It's always amazing when you're competing, but when you've got certain eyes watching you that you’re not used to in everyday life, it's pretty wild."

16 JULY 2025 | Father Jim Sichko, a Catholic priest from Lexington in Kentucky, USA shared his story of the viral 'i love you kate' moment at the Wimbledon Gentlemen's Singles Finals and how much the Princess' acknowledgement of the gesture meant to him.
On seeing the Waleses that day he said :
"It was very interesting. They came out, and I didn't know Prince William was there. Then, as I was looking, I said, 'Oh my gosh, that looks like Prince William.' And everyone around me said, 'Yes, they're here as a family,' "
They were there until the end. Then she came out and greeted all the children and took time with them. Let me tell you, you can tell if someone is authentic and she is authentic. What you see is what you get. You can't make up those types of emotions and conversations and exchanges."
Speaking about the "I love you, Kate", he said :
"She stepped out and then there was just this moment of silence, and I screamed out, 'I love you, Kate!' I didn't know if anyone heard. I did not even realize that she made any type of response to it,.
Then I was worried, because I didn't hear anything afterwards, and I was like, 'Oh my goodness, did anyone hear that? Did it fall on deaf ears?' And then I posted on social media and said to the people who follow me, 'I just want you to know if you were watching — I did this and I want to apologize if it did not sound appropriate, but I was just caught up in the moment.'
Someone sent me the PEOPLE story and that's when I saw the response. I started Googling and people were showing how she was so excited and thrilled and smiled and laughed. It was very moving for me because again, it happened so quickly. I didn't see her reaction because I just freaked out and time didn't stop, it just kept going"
He called it a joyful moment that he’ll never forget :
"There was laughter. It was a moment of true spontaneity. There was joy in the air. There was much excitement in her being present as well as with the two winners"
"She was very composed, very professional. You could tell she was very much at home. She looked very well. She was on spot. I loved how she greeted all the children."
Father Sichko is cancer survivor who has faced both kidney and prostate cancer and while necessarily a follower of the tennis world or the royal family said that he has great respect for The Princess of Wales, in part, because they have both navigated cancer :
"I'm in the spotlight in some aspects, but in a much lower form, because I speak constantly. I travel 300 days a year, and so, to know that you have to put on that face, you have people watching you. There's a sense of you have to step up. She could have not paid my shout-out any attention. She could have totally ignored it. She could have even looked in a way of, 'What are you doing? It must be an American.' There was none of that. It was just in fact, the exact opposite, and it proved what my intuition told me, that she has a heart, that she cares that she is in this role and that it's something that she lives and exudes."
Speaking about the Princess's transparency about her own cancer journey, he said :
"It resonates because she could have kept all of that quiet. She could have decided that this is not something we're going to share, but by her sharing her own journey and her treatment, and by her willingness to be present, she is doing a lot to heal not only herself, but others, mentally, spiritually, and figuratively.
She is sending a message that everyone is vulnerable, and through that vulnerability, you embrace it, you persevere, and you do what you got to do, and that provides strength and hope for people."
Sichko said he felt compelled to share his story now so that others could learn the deeper meaning of the moment 'he will always cherish' :
"It was amazing because all these stories started popping up of this exchange, and I was like, 'That was me.' It wasn't someone who just had too many Pimm's at a game and was just randomly screaming out.
There was a sense of such respect and an honor at this woman, at this individual, who happens to be a princess and who happens to really exhibit what I believe the world needs in a time of great despair. Our world is in a real difficult place right now, and I believe that she exhibits hope and love and radiance, and that's what we need in the world."

The annual tradition of counting swans on the River Thames has got under way.
The count - known as swan upping - is the royal census of birds on the river and dates back to the 12th century.
It is designed to give an idea of the health of their population and is carried out every July.

11 June 2011 | Queen Elizabeth II travels by horse-drawn carriage to Horse Guards Parade to take part in the Trooping the Colour parade on June 11, 2011 in London, England. The ceremony of Trooping the Colour is believed to have first been performed during the reign of King Charles II. In 1748, it was decided that the parade would be used to mark the official birthday of the Sovereign. More than 600 guardsmen and cavalry make up the parade, a celebration of the Sovereign's official birthday, although the Queen's actual birthday is on 21 April. (Photo by Albert Nieboer)
