Sarasota Jeep Club
This is a community that I would have never been a part of if it were not for my dad. My dad joined this club before my family did. When he told us about this club, we decided to go to an event. This Jeep club has a couple events a month, and they almost all have the same people that attend the events.
My family has met so many cool people within this club that we would have never met if we were not a part of this club. This community is so fun, welcoming, and spontaneous. There are different events like off-roading events, christmas parades, and so much more. The members are always encouraging us to hangout with each other and to go to more events.
This Jeep club is always chatting about Jeeps, Jeeps, and Jeeps. Jeeps all day, and every day. When something in this community goes wrong, we are always there for each other. A couple weeks ago, someone’s Jeep in the club got stolen, and we had members posting on Facebook about it, and even driving to track down the person that stole it. The members in this club stick together; That is why I love this community that I am a part of.

Norris Lake, Tennessee
This community is very important to me. Every year, my family and our family friends go on boating vacation to Norris Lake, Tennessee. We are a part of this boating community. Every year, we see the same people that work at each marina. We see the same crowd of people every year. This community is all about boating, whether it is talking about new boats, skis, wakeboards, surfboards, and pretty much anything about boating.
This community is very welcoming. The people that work at the marinas are all friendly and always willing to help with anything. If anything goes wrong, everyone in this boating community is willing to help, and this usually goes for boaters all over. Whenever our boat has broken down, we have had random people tow us across the water, and we have also towed a good handful of boats in the past. Whenever you pass another boat, it is common courtesy to wave to them.
Boaters have many different ways and signals of communicating with each other. Boats have the obvious horns, but boaters have hand signals. If something is wrong there are signals for that. I love how helpful boaters are with each other, and it is not every single boater, but most boaters are very considerate and friendly with each other.

Disney!
I have found myself within a community of people from every age! My family and I go into this community quite often. We love the fact there are people of all ages that get to enjoy these parks. The community of Disney-goers is crazy, but in a good way. Everyone here loves Disney with their whole hearts, they love and appreciate family, and they love adventure.
People in the Disney community are welcoming and accepting of everyone. This community comes together for one purpose: the love of Disney. We all wait in long lines, stand around in the heat of mid-summer, and take photos with everything and everywhere around the parks, so we all get it. We do not complain about these annoying little details because we genuinely love being in Disney. Everyone in the community knows about the “purple wall,” “hidden mickeys,” annual pass-holder events, and so much more. We all take pride in knowing our way around the parks, and take pride in knowing anything and everything Disney.
Living in Florida gives me a better opportunity to be a part of this community. I am not from Florida, and moving here and having a community to bond with is really cool. Almost anyone I talk to in the parks, is friendly and seemingly wants to have a conversation (about Disney, of course!). I am so grateful to be a part of this community.

Photo

This photo makes me think of community. My group from Community, Culture, and Communication started volunteering together for a project. Little did I know how warm my heart would feel after doing this. It is so much to see all of these people in our community of Tampa Bay come to this place and work together to give people better lives. Metropolitan Ministries is the location of where we are volunteering, and this is such a wonderful place that does wonderful things.Â
The way that those in need come in to get simple things like food and clothing, that some people do not even think anything of, is really sad. These people in need are so thankful for what metropolitan ministries does for them. Some people came in and said “FOOD,” as if they had not eaten a meal in a couple days. It is hard to watch people that are deprived of the simple necessities in life like food, shelter, clothing, etc. Metropolitan Ministries also provides shelter for some families in need.Â
In this community, my classmates and I are working together to make our city a better place. We hope to help and volunteer our time as much as we can. My classmates and I feel as though we have joined this new community that we had not been involved with before. This place of helping has made us feel so sad for these people in need, but also so warm from being able to help to hopefully make a difference. Communities work together.Â

My Third Place

My third place is somewhere where I feel free. I have chosen my third place because of how it makes me feel. Like I said, because it makes me feel free, I feel that I can relax and just be myself. I do not have to put on a front and seem put together. I have decided to not disclose what my third place is all about because it is something that I feel to be private, so I would prefer not to share this much information about myself. This place has special meaning to me because of the way that I am able to be when I am in my third place. My third place that I would prefer not to disclose is a club. This club has many leaders and members that make me feel accepted. This place sounds like people conversing, smells like pizza (because we usually have pizza at the meetings), and my third place feels like a safe place.Â
During this past visit, I have noticed many things that I have not paid attention too much in the past. When I entered the room for the “meeting,” I entered with my brother and a friend. As we entered, we were greeted by the leaders of the club, of whom we are friends with. When we sat down and the meeting began, I looked around the room at familiar faces. I do not talk to everyone in the club, but I recognized a lot of people that are in each meeting. A lot of the same people speak up and talk in every meeting, which makes them familiar, although I do not really speak much in the meetings unless something is really on my mind. I usually talk to friends after the meeting about the meeting, because we usually have a lot of similar thoughts about what is said in the meetings. Every meeting, the same pattern is played out. We start and end very similarly all of the meetings.
This assignment made me see my third place in a different light. I will now enter my third place, knowing that it is my third place. I will not take advantage of the fact that it is my “third place,” and that I am able to be free and relax in my space. I will now be able to recognize different similarities within the group, and recognizing that each member has different thoughts as well. Each person adds their own thoughts into group conversations, so this makes it even more interesting to me, and it makes me love my third place even more. I relax by talking to friends, so this place has been teaching me a lot.
