RONDO ALLA TURCA - MOZART
The piano piece named as Rondo Alla Turca, widely known as the Turkish Rondo is composed by Mozart. The use of a percussion instrument showcased the piece’s loud and rhythmic style--producing a percussive effect. Listening to the Sonata, I could imagine a man being chased (which I drew) due to the tempo’s fast pace. The transition in the second part from woodwind instruments to string gives off an intense, vehement, and strong feeling.

The second video shows a performance by the Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino (Kontra-GaPi), an Ethnic Music and Dance Ensemble from the University of the Philippines Diliman. The use of several aerophones, ideophones, and Cordilleran Drums perhaps, contributed to the myriad of sounds which collectively sounds ethnic and indigenous. While listening to it, I could imagine a parade due to the jovial feeling the ethnic elements the video displays. I also drew an elephant in the front row for it is also known to symbolize mystery and the otherworld--an atmosphere the sounds also inherently exhibits.

The movies selected for the Metro Manila Film Festival for this year, according to Professor Nick Tiongson, were chose according to their technical excellence. I believe that this gives the credit Filipino independent Film Makers deserve. We may say that the MMFF have countless beneficiaries to help, and without the film festival formally starting, people have already questioned its ability to meet its goal. However, several indie films have also made a mark in the commercial industry--such as Ang Babae sa Septic Tank and Heneral Luna. This change in MMFF's lineup not only gives a chance for Filipino film appreciation and artistic excellence, but it also a leap of faith. It is too early to judge whether the films can reach the quota or not. Hopefully, the MMFF pave way for people to break away from stereotype and disprove the myth that indie movies will not earn money. All it needs is our enthusiastic support, because such change may make a mark in Philippine cinema. Furthermore, I am disheartened by Mother Lily's claims which states "There is a time for indie movies--but not during Christmas season." Mother Lily is a prominent film producer, she must have been aware that film making isn't merely focused on selling; but also employing excellence. Films are meant to be enjoyed, and actually, we may say that the cinema and Christmas are two different things. In retrospect, the reason Christmas is the longest season the country celebrates is due to the fact that businesses see the opportunity to profit in the celebration, and it is such a shame to know that one of the prominent film producers think this way as well. Christmas is not exclusively for Children--yes, it is a season of smile, but, why can't it be a season of celebrating and promoting artistic excellence and social relevance as well? Why celebrate Christmas with films that employ sick jokes which are incongruous for the sake of making people laugh and gaining money from the season? Mainstream films have 365 days to show their movies. The issue is not even whether cinema is for children or Christmas is just for children-- the issue, as we know, is all focused on Marketing and how film making in the Philippines is slowly becoming a slave to merely selling a product, and not a platform for the sustainability quality and excellence. It's time for people to appreciate what Filipino indie films offer.

I find this course very informative in a way that it broadened aspect of art from my perspective of view. Unlike before, I got to think art as something cultural rather than just technique to interpret what one has in mind. As a result, these lessons enabled me to break certain prejudice I had whenever I become judgmental of any artwork. I look forward to break more of these stereotypes as we proceed with upcoming lessons.

I believe that physical art spaces are still necessary despite the advent of the wide usage of internet and virtual art spaces because it provides a physical connection and experience to its users. Media abundance have created a tremendous innovations in the field, however, imperatives of a physical art space are still necessary; for it is not what such art space contains--it is not how innovative its 3d pens, mac computers etc. are, but the possibilities it create which are tangible unlike those that virtual art spaces provide.

Human dignity upholds basic rights because human life mean more than just sustaining life. Catholic church is always at the head of the realization that human dignity is for every human being created in the image and likeness of God.

Hiroshi Yoshida (吉田博) (1876–1950, Japan)
Marine scenes
Hiroshi Yoshida was a 20th century Japanese painter and print-maker. He is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga style of ukiyo-e woodblock printing, and is noted especially for his excellent landscape prints. Yoshida travelled widely, and was particularly known for his images of non-Japanese subjects done in traditional Japanese woodblock style, including the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks in the United States.

#Paskona This work is an appropriation of what usually comes into people's mind when they think of Christmas. Instead of a girl wearing santa clause outfit standing beside reindeer with sparkling red nose and posing near to icy mountain as the background, I replaced with a girl standing near beach with carabaw. It apparently shows Christmas in tropical countries like Philippines and it reveals the fact that Christmas is also celebrated in Eastern countries. Appropriation is one of the best way of showing changes in the art style which reflects current society. All forms of appropriation are acceptable unless the artwork is further modified for the purpose of disgracing the artwork itself or the subject of the work. I believe that the appropriation is a way of broadening the branches in the field of art which would result in harmony of art and modern world. If I were to set my own guideline for appropriation 1. I will not interfere with using my work for the new aspect of interpretation. 2. I will appreciate educational purpose of appropriation 3. I will not accept any form of infamous offense with my work as basis. Illustrating Traditions
Fernando Amorsolo's work clearly depicts reality of Filipinos showing how they used to earn a living without idealizing any factor. Expressing agricultural lives could seem somehow miserable and boring to people in urban areas but use of bright colors enabled depiction of vivid moment of workers, where their effort itself shows beauty. Philippines history, customs, culture, and landscape including general livelihood of Filipinos are also found in his works. Language cannot be the barrier of expressing true Filipino-ness. For instance, the author of the novel "The Good Earth", Pearl Buck was highly praised for being able to express reality in past China by means of English. She was able to manifest Chinese's way of thinking for she grew up as Chinese even though she was born in America. However, being written in English did not alter the true Chinese-ness and their way of thinking. As long as one thinks as the other majority of Filipinos do, one's true Filipino-ness will be easily seen no matter whichever language is used.

My Aim For Contemporary Art
My goal in this particular term is to attain a high grade in academics and to allot time to study what I wanted aside from academics. I believe that this period is the best time to be involved in extracurricular activities or just do my hobbies. I am planning to achieve this through having either private tutorials or research about the field I want to study on my own. As the subject contemporary arts deals with artworks reflecting human race or our own selves, this subject will bring me to what I really want and will also set instructions on how to get there. In this subject, I am looking forward to relating my life to art and to the current society. Having high expectations for the activities that would help me express myself in terms of art, I will also exert effort to study about the various artists in the past and their life so that i can learn to interpret my life through art.
