Premise #2
Premise #2
In this short animated sequence, I want to emphasize the work culture of New Zealand trades. This film must relate and represent workers of all trades such as scaffolding, bricky, labourer, painter, chippie, sparky, etc as ‘smoko’ is a treat that is universally enjoyed. However it is what you do in this 10-15minute break which makes all the difference. At 10AM your body starts to crave food to get through the hard day ahead so you want to eat up good. This animated sequence is the tale of the perfect break, or ‘smoko’ that everyone would be jealous of. A heaven of some sort. Kiwi culture, especially south Auckland workers love a cheap but filling meal; and what more bang for your buck then asian food. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the wind is whispering, you have a nice picnic, followed by some nicotine and fizzy's for dessert. However, a high is always dealt with an equal low, and the food coma hits and you don’t want to go back to work. This is when the holy V will always have your back.

In this short animated story I want to focus on humour and capture an abstract way of visually thinking. This means that there will be use of metaphors and descriptive sentences in which the animation would back the storyteller. I plan to utilise mostly 2D cartoonish style with also 3D and clay-motion animation, which hopefully provides an edgy twist to this animated sequence. There also might be some voice overs involved (other background/side characters) which turns the interview into a proper story. The story revolves around probably the best smoko break this interviewee’s ever had. It starts with him on the job as a scaffolder (side of the building), and he looks down at his watch to see it at 10 AM. smoko time. He then jumps off the building straight to the nearest chinese takeaway shop for the $10 chicken on rice special. However this hero hits rock bottom as he starts to food coma and realises he needs to go back to work, until his loyal friend saves his life with the holy blue V. Together they bang on the rest of the day.

First dry draft thumbnail sketches of Animation
I sort of like the Simpson's inspired intro with the smoke/title turning into a cloud that acts as a transition into the first scene. Also the extreme close up at the beginning is pretty cool, gives off a mysterious feeling that leaves the viewer wanting more.
