For each photographer, their photography can be a window into their world. Giving you a glimpse of the world through their eyes. I intend to do this with the images I take. I capture what I find to be visually appealing. I like colorful photography. I like clarity, so usually it is very apparent what I am photographing. Some of my favorite images are ones that take a place, building, or object, in a good setting, and capture its essence. I like capturing moments in time. Pictures taken at a basketball game, or of someone working on a wood project. A robotic animal playing a guitar mid performance. We can never truly “capture” a moment, but photography enables us to get close. It enables us to see things in a way we’ve never seen them. We cannot freeze time, but photography almost allows us to. Through my portfolio you will be able to see moments of my experience frozen in time. Though I hope that my photos can be perceived in many ways, and people may derive different meanings from them, they usually do not have an abstract meaning or underlying message. Regardless, I hope that you enjoy my photos and the perspective they present.
When I first took this class, I did not expect to progress very much. I still have a long way to go, but I am surprised with my progress. Initially, I felt like I would never be able to figure out the balance between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Though I am not perfect, I actually know how to photograph differently in scenarios and what to modify if the image is too dark or not clear. I have also learned from many other people who stopped to help me figure things out. I have been able to look at their photography and learn as well. I took many images that I am proud of in this class. I have also become very aware when I see something that should be photographed like a beautiful sunset or a plant enclosure. I will cherish and nurture these skills moving forward. I am very thankful for everything I have learned.
