one of my favourite personal poppy headcanons is that she dropped the -wanag at mit because the only other woman in her classes was this really cool chinese girl whom she might’ve had a little sexual tension with. and upon meeting her poppys like “im actually half chinese actually!!1! 😃” because 1.) she’s so fucking desperate for connection and 2.) she’s always felt weird and ostracised for being the geeky filipina kid and Everyone Thinks It’s Cooler When Chinese People Are Nerds Right?? eventually like her full surname gets revealed or her parents visit or something happens that causes poppys True LineageTM to be revealed and this chinese woman is like “what the racism???” about it so they’re just kinda awkwardly rivals for the rest of their time at mit. and ofc all the white boys there think this is HILARIOUS. thus continues poppys spiral of everyone hating her because she sucks. my queen :3
