Mind Melt: In this session we were looking at the relation between text and image and how this can be shown visually through illustrations, words and texts. The aim of this session was to create a mind melt which included our best attributes, traits and & important decisions. Firstly we had to acknowledge the first things which came to our minds and write them down in a list in order of importance. This is because the more important things will go into the bigger pieces of the mind melt which shows your main trait or religion etc. What I did after this was talk and exchange my ideas with my table which created different ideas for me and my table. After this we had to start visualising how we could represent these topics through text or image and how it can give off the right meaning and purpose. I decided to do illustrations and different size texts showing my topics in my mind melt because I like to play around with different fonts and words to give them a different image. We all decided to create these in black and white just because it relates to work of Franz Joseph Gall which we looked at in the start of the session. After these were finished we were reviewing and reflecting each other’s work and then creating a Haiku which is a small poem with only a certain amount of syllables. I really liked this task just because it create a funny and different side of poetry and shows that it can be as random and nonsense which is so good about it. Overall this session was a good way to create a different understanding behind poetry and the representation between text and image.

Summer project summary
Over the summer we were given a small project which was based on famous poets and poems. The first task to this small project was to firstly read some poems which have been created by famous poets such as Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes who have created poetry for many years. After reading through some poems we were asked to make notes on them on what we were visual seeing and our opinion on the meaning behind the poems. This task was effective because it helped me analyse text in a deeper and more understanding way which helps me later on in the brief and future peices of work. After this we were asked to create a range of different peices of poetry created from everyday surroundings such as shop slogans and road sign messages. What I aimed to achieve over this task was a series of poems which didn't make much sense but created a different visual image when read, and I feel I had created this. Because of the short texts and worlds involved in the sources I used it created loads of different themes to juxtapose and create different visual images. Onto the final task which was to create a range of different poems created from our favourite songs and music artist, what u liked about this task was the wide range of sources we could use and the different meanings and images we could create from a loaf of different songs. Overall I feel as this project has set us up for our first brief because it's given us a insite into poetry and the themes which are involved within these peices

Weekly Evaluation week 9
My aims for this week were to continue refining and making my final outcome the best it can be. What i set myself to complete was to sand down my chair to my the surface smooth and even so that the stay paint would go on easy and evenly. I decided to use the sander which helped a lot more and this was because it was faster and gave a more even surface than a piece of sand paper used by hand. After this I needed to choose the colour i was going to spray my chair and went with a cream colour which I thought worked well with the exhibition colour of white. Then this was finished and started to think how I was going to display this in the exhibition in the best way. Because mine was 3D it worked well in the centre of the room and this was because it was large scale and contained a centre effect to it. What I needed to add to this was a white wooden panel to go under my chair so that it would stand out more and be lifted from the floor a little, this I thought worked well because it gave off a more professional look and quality.
What I feel went well with my final outcome was the concept being portrayed from it and the visual quality it gives off. And how this related to my original design sketches I produced at the start of the practical week and this will help me evaluate at the end of the week. Overall I found this week really exciting and challenging and this was because I was out my comfort zone and liked how I overcame this.

Final Outcome sketches:
Firstly I looked at my test pieces and decided on a form to take and enlarge to normal scale for my final outcome. The form I went with was the normal chair but wanted to manipulate this to make it look unstable and create a on edge feel when i use. How I planned to get this across was to the parts for a normal looking chair and then piece these together in different and abnormal way. In the end i wanted to make my chair leaning towards the right which gave it a different visual quality to a ordinary chair. How I started to assemble this outcome was to gather the materials I was using which was a strong wood and I chose this so that it could sustain someone sitting on it if used. After this I needed to accurately measure out each piece of wood i was going use so that this would fit together nicely and have a good professional look. I found that this would be much more challenging that first thought, and this was because i needed to cut the shapes out really accurately and failed to do this many times, therefore got help and learned a new techniques to do this which helped me later on in constructing my final outcome. After I created the base and back rest for my chair I then needed to figure out how to create the legs for the chair to lean to the right. Therefore i spoke to Richard and came up with a solution which included cutting the ends at a angle which abled the chair to stand and hold at the angle I wanted this. After this was finished I had my final outcome and thought this looked very dull and so decided to refine this by sanding it and adding a layer of spray paint which connected really well with the white walls of the exhibition. What I feel went well during the practical stage of my final outcome was the processes I used which I learnt through my tests and I refined these to create the best final outcome possible. What challenges I faced whilst creating this was the putting even layer off spray paint on and this was hard as there was any different angles to my chair to paint. Overall I am happy with my outcome and think this reflects my project concept well.

Weekly Evaluation week 8:
Evaluation of week 8 25/05/17
What I set myself to complete over this week was a range of different test pieces showing a product being manipulated. What my aims were at the start of this week was to look and research a new designer who experiments with different materials and to create some design sketches inspired from these to prepare me for the practical sessions throughout the week. The designer I chose to research and analyse was Stefan Steil who creates a range of plaster furniture pieces and what I would like do from these is to manipulate them and make these create a different form and function. After I analysed Stefan’s work I decided to create a range of drawings and design sketches showing what I wanted to, I decided to focus on a bean bag and how it can take different forms when in use and wanted to change this by making it out of platter and adding objects to make it uncomfortable and unable to use. What went well throughout this week was the research and development from this such as the design sketches and use of materials and experimentation. What I want to do next is to look at all my test pieces and create a larger scale piece to use in the exhibition and spend the time refining it and making it look the best it can be. I found that the processes I went back to worked really well and I tried loads of different techniques such as using a bag to plaster caster and adding dies to add different colours.

weeky evauluation week 7
Weekly Reflection week 7 (18/05/17) During the start of this week I found and looked into a new furniture designer called Florence Knoll Bassett who created comfy, clean looking furniture pieces. What I liked about her work was how the form and function of the overall chair worked and how it suited the human form well because of the curves and overall shape of the chairs. After I researched her I analysed her work and talked about what interested me, also in how her work related to my work and the concept of my project. What I experimented with in my first workshop session this week was to explore different forms and materials in the 3D workshop and to play around with the processes needed to manipulate materials. The material I was exploring in that session was aluminium because it’s strong and easy to piece together which helped me create a range of different forms such as an angular and liner shaped form. What I learnt about this experimentation in the 3D workshop was the effects of the materials under pressure and how the can be joined showing the clean methods apart from the messy plus weak joints. I also got a greater understanding of the artist’s work and tried to put aspects of her work and others together to see what the outcome would come out like. However I also found out what wouldn’t work whilst creating a furniture product such as the structure design of it and the resources available to me and this was because I created a design sketch and couldn’t do this because I chose the wrong materials to work with and didn’t have the correct resources available to carry out this idea.  The techniques I used throughout this week to create my ideas and to put them into action were processes I have learnt throughout this year. I looked at product design sketches and learnt how to develop an idea further and I did this because it gave me a wider range of ideas and tests to carry out in the workshop. I tried to experiment with different joints such as a rivet and wire which created different outcomes which helped me decide what to work with in further weeks. What I want to achieve next week is to look into and analyse a different artists so that I can take inspiration from this and experiment through visual and secondary drawing and creating a range of design sketches to take further in the 3D workshop. How effective I thought this week went through the different workshops work well because it was relevant to my ideas from my artist research and design sketches what all comes back to my project concept of interaction through furniture and product design. What my aims were for this week was to create a couple of Maquettes from different materials and processes I have looked at relating to the artists I have looked at and analysed and to show connections through small and tight spaces and exploring the space created because of the chair such as creating a larger base or making it taller so no one can sit on it anymore. My action plan for next week is to start and construct a larger scale piece and start refining it to a good standard, also to keep researching different artists and designers to keep adding depth to my project and ideas.

Le Corbusier: The line was introduced in 1928 at the Salon d‘Autumne in Paris by Le Corbusier and his team of designers. The first results of the collaboration were three chrome-plated tubular steel chairs designed for two of his projects, The Maison la Roche in Paris and a pavilion for Barbara and Henry Church. The line of furniture was expanded for Le Corbusier's 1929 Salon d'Automne installation, 'Equipment for the Home'.Le Corbusier began experimenting with furniture design in 1928 after inviting the architect, Charlotte Perriand, to join his studio. His cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, also collaborated on many of the designs. Before the arrival of Perriand, Le Corbusier relied on ready-made furniture to furnish his projects, such as the simple pieces manufactured by Thonet, the company that manufactured his designs in the 1930s.what I like about his work is his professional style and how this has a modern affect on the surrounding which I would want to use and change to create a different form and function.

weekly reflection week 6
Weekly Evaluation week 6:
What I had set out to complete and do over this week was to continue with my 3D experiments and explore one more material to work from and compare to the others I have already used. Firstly I had to explore and research a new designer who used and worked with a different material, and found Jack Louis who created chair forms from bark and wood which still contained the trees life rays. What I liked about Jack Louis was the relation to human form, and I saw this in many different designers I have looked at and analysed. So I decided I wanted to create something which challenged this so decided to work in the wood room and work with aluminium and wood together and see the relation and differences between them. How I did this was gathering an equal amount of each material and making the accurate pieces I needed for the sculpture and I did this by using the processes I learnt earlier on in the project. After this was complete I started to piece these together by using the glue gun and rivet joints for the aluminium which seemed to work well. Later on in the session I finished the test piece and thought it had a very organic and environmental effect to it and this was because it was made from sustainable and natural materials which linked together nicely through colour and textures.
What I feel went well about this week was my planning through and this was because I decided what I wanted to do and how to execute this. And by creating a list of materials and processes I will be using and needed for the week and sessions to be successful. Also by looking into and analysing a new designer which widened my understanding and knowledge for furniture and product design, therefore has made an influence on my test outcome. What I felt could do better Would be the refine stage of it and this was because I think it came out quite rough and untidy which I didn’t personally like but other than that I found it quite successful

Monday 3D session week 6:
In this session i carryied on with the devloopments from week 5 which were inspired from my design sketches which related to the designer Hums Wagner. After I gathered all the peices of wood I accuratly cut using the iron table saw which was very accurate and easy to use on the thursday. I started to join these togther but without putting the screws, andI did this just incase I wanted to change the form of the chair. Next I decided what joining method I wanted to use which ended up being a standard screw which was 15 cm long to hold the structure in place. I used this because it was easyily exicuted and could be removed easyily which helped if I made a istake along the way of constructing it.What I feel went well with this test oeice is that it contains the form and fuction of a chair and can be minipulated because of the back rest being able to move side to side which will be good to create an awkward and uncomfortable conversation. What I could of improved on would off been the shape so it didnt look like an ordinary chair. But this is also helpful because I can study the form in person and see what works well and what could be changed. But overall I thought this session helped my project progess because i can create different chairs and products in realion to this and could relate and link back to my orignal research and project concept.

Weekly Evaluation week 5
Weekly Evaluation week 5:
At the start of this week I set myself a group of tasks and aims to complete by the end of the week. These aims were to explore and analyse a new de3signer which related to my practical developments and also to explore a different material further in the 3D workshop. I feel as I have achieved these aims because I have created a couple of small wooden marquette’s which show different processes and qualities to the aluminium model I made last week. At the start of the week I researched Hums Wagner who created wooden furniture pieces and used organic and natural forms to create these. Once I analysed and outlined what I wanted to do and develop from his work I went into the 3D workshop in the afternoon session. During this session I wasn’t going to create something but just explore and experiment with different processes and techniques to see which ones worked better than others. I discovered that drilling two screws into the wood to join them together was the strongest and most suitable for my outcomes, and this was easy to execute and not time consuming.  The only thing I found was bad about this process was the untidiness left from the nails in the wood, but I found a solution which was to create a dip into the wood and then screw the nails into the wood so it had a smooth and equal surface which gave it a professional look. After this session I created some design sketches to use in Thursdays practical session and this helped me have an outlined idea to show Sarah and I knew what materials and processes I would be using so this helped manage time. On the Thursday session I didn’t manage to create a finished test piece but created all the parts to work with on the Monday session so it all wasn’t a success.
What I feel went well this week was the practical ideas I came up with and the exploration behind a new material which widens my opinion towards my final outcome. I also learnt a few new processes in the practical workshop which I will evaluate and critique on my blog; I want to use these in future sessions because they created different and interesting outcomes. What I feel I could improve on was my time management and this is because I could off created some design sketches for Mondays session and had a clearer understanding on what I was doing which would of helped me later on in the week in Thursdays session.

3D workshop development : In this session I was going to explore and develop a range of processes I haven't used before to compare which ones worked the best and created a refined outcome. What I did at the start of this session was gather my research and design sketches and look at these and see what I wanted to work from. After I decided to work with the design sketches I created earlier on in the week I needed to decided which material to use and experiment with. As shown I used aluminium which was a good choice because I liked the surface and qualities it had to it such as its strength and weight. After this Sarah showed me some of the processes I could use with aluminium and used the guillotine to cut my aluminium into strips so they could be joints easy later on in the session. The joining method I went with was the rivet joint which was strong and held the material in shape which was good because my prototype needed to be stable and secure. I thought this session went really well and this was because I explored a range of new processes which I can now use in further developments on different materials which will widen my overall knowledge behind the 3D workshop. What I could of done better would of been that I made a few more test prices to show different forms and shapes to work from in the next session I will be working in.

Weekly evaluation week 4
Weekly evaluation week 4: This week was really important as we were planning our project proposals which were 20% of our final FMP grade. As I already knew what I was going to explore and develop for my project concept I was one step ahead. After we had written a rough template we then had to pair up and read them aloud to make sure they made sense and contained all the main aspects explaining our idea in depth and clarity. I think this really helps outline your mistakes in grammar and also allows people to give you constructive criticism which will only make your work better. After this was all completed we then had to apply this to the proposal template and upload this to moodle and print for our sketchbooks to show our project idea. On the Thursday I decided to explore another designer which related and connected to my idea and decided to look at Charles and Ray Eames, these designers really influenced me early on after looking at their work. This was because I really liked there old school form to them whilst still containing the same function needed for the product its self to fit in with its surroundings. After this research I went into the 3D room with Sarah and explored different materials relating to their similar forms and tried to play around with different frames such as a chair having three legs which gives a sense of instability. What I feel went well this week was my own understanding for my project concept and writing this into my project proposal. Also creating a project title which connects really well to my idea which was ‘Are you sitting comfortably?’ which works really well. Also I explored a new designer which opened up new ideas to explore and I can do this through sketches and collages of peoples work and combine them together to create new outcomes and designs. What I felt could of gone better could of been the development through drawing, and this is because I didn’t do any throughout this week which will now be done during independent time to set me up for the next week.

Weekly evaluation week 3: At the start of this week I set myself aims to complete during this week and feel as I have achieved these. The aims I set myself to complete were to outline my project concept and begin relevant primary research which links to this concept. The concept I decided to go with was interaction, and this was because I found it related well with my specialism of product design and contained many different starting points to explore. To gather some starting ideas I decided to go out and gather some primary research of different people interacting during different times and locations and recording these through pictures and visual drawings. Want I wanted to achieve from this was an understanding of what interactions occur during different times and places and what products are used whilst these take place. After I gathered a range of sources I then looked into some designers which related to the products which were used during the interaction in my primary research. I found and researched Florence Knoll Bassett who created a range of furniture pieces which gave off a comfy and homey feel to them. I found these interesting because I found that I could manipulate these to create a different product which looks similar but contains different qualities such as stability and comfortless. What I thought went well during this week was the relevant research and how I explored this by doing visual and continuous drawings which linked to my project concept. What I took from these were different abnormal shapes and converted them into design sketches which I want to explore later next week in the 3D workshop. This gave me some planning time ahead of the next week which helped me manage my time better for the independent work which would be evaluating the sessions I had completed throughout this week. What I feel I could have done better this week would be the exploration after my primary research, such as I could have done some mark making or large scale drawings which would have helped to fill my portfolio. But overall I thought this week was productive and successful and this is because I have decided on my project concept and started to identify starting points in which I may explore further on in the project.

Florence Knoll Bassett: Florence was born to a baker and orphaned at the age of 12. Florence grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and showed an early interest in architecture and was enrolled at the kings wood school for girls, which was adjacent to the cranbook Academy of Art. She later moved to Cranbook and through different connections developed and made new skills were the foundations of Florence schusts incredible design education and pioneering career. In 1941 Florence moved to New York and met up withHans Knoll who was establishing his furniture company. With Florences skills in designing and Hans skills in business, the pair who later married in 1946, grew the company into an international arbiter of style and design. Florence Knoll defined the standard for the modern corporate interiors of post-war America. As part of her work on the planning unit, she continued to add to her furniture catalogue and designs. She humbly referred to her furniture designs as the 'meat and the potatoes' among the stand out prices from other designers such as Bertoia. What I like about Florence Knolls designs are the shape and curves in her furniture, and I feel as this really suits the human form well and causes a calm and free flowing interaction to take place whilst in use. I think this because of the material it's made out of and the comfort side of things which would attract a calm interaction to take place. What I would like to develop form this would be to manipulate the form of the furniture changing the shape and making it look uncomfortable and not appealing and seeing what people would be attracted to it and the interactions which would take place as a part of it.

Introduction into week 1 & 2
At the start of this term I originally thought that this brief was quite broad and had a lot of concepts which you could explore and look at in more depth. The brief of ‘In conversation’ was left very open in how we looked towards it because there are many different ways in which you can have a conversation such as face to face or in sign language and many more. What I found interesting about the brief was that it’s very different and all the different ways you can approach it and start the project in your own way by exploring different conversation. The first workshop I went into after the introduction into the brief was 3D and didn’t really know how to explore any of the concepts given to us so just started to map out different relevant ideas linking to my specialism which is product design. After doing this I decided to explore the dialogue between the narrative sand the connections which people make during a conversation and how they react to different types of conversations such as an emotional or an angry conversation. What I want to achieve in this workshop is the sense of the different connections people make in a conversation and how they react after a different type of conversation. The other workshop I found useful this week was the digital one and this was because we were exploring typography and how we can make it look and sound a different way by just changing the size and focal point of the word. I found this workshop really interesting and this is because I liked looking into the way you can change the meaning of something and all the different techniques used to do this, such as using the most used font which is called hypheta. The theme in this workshop was the significance of words and how we can change the meaning of text and different words.
The introduction into the second week was focusing more into the context of the brief and given us a range of starting pints to look into over the Easter break. We were still exploring the workshops we were set to but doing certain sessions which developed our technical skills and didn't really relate to the concepts from the brief. The first workshop I was doing was 3D and I choose to work in the ceramics room and produce a range of pots including my primary drawings from the visit to town showing ranges of communication. I created these pots by molding them round a solid shape and working the clay around it, this produced a good quality pot form to work onto. Then I used different tools to engrave my sketches onto the clay to make a good quality line to show the textures and flowing movements of the drawings. After this session we were given a drawing task based on taxonomy and I general was interested in this concept because it included many different starting points to create a interesting project idea. We were doing visual drawings from collections we created from objects in our room contain many different things which may not have been related. We were focusing mostly on their forms and colour theories and explored different drawing techniques we have used throughout the year including continuous and quick sketching. Overall I feel as these first 2 weeks into the FMP have been very experimental and have enabled us to gather lots of work to support our concepts and final project concept to start working on after the Easter holidays. I want to gather relevant ideas for each concept I have chosen over the Easter holidays so I can develop from them to create a range of different ideas to work from.
