Damien Leone: hey so some of you might have heard that art the clown hates trump King: Barker: Koontz: Poe: Lovecraft:
Leone: now i just want to address this rumor Barker: ya know you really don't need to Leone: no i think it's important Barker: to address the rumor that art the clown hates trump? Leone: yes
King: art the clown? Leone: yes King: the clown from terrifier? Leone: yes King: well now King: that sounds like one COOL CLOWN Leone: now why'd you have to go make it all political
Leone: i want everyone to know that terrifier is a totally apolitical movie Leone: pure entertainment Leone: nothing to say at all Leone: a real head empty, no thoughts film Leone: i set out to say nothing Leone: and goshdarnit i said it!

Midnight Pals: Corn
Tom Tryon: submitted for the approval of the midnight society, i call this the tale of harvest home Tryon: gentlemen, behold! Tryon: CORN! King: oh i don't know about this King: i already wrote a corn based folk horror story Tryon: this time Tryon: will be different!
Tryon: are you guys ready for the dark secret of harvest home? Koontz: oh wow, sounds spooky! Tryon: oh, it's extremely spooky! Tryon: believe me Tryon: you will be spooked Tryon: but first Tryon: CORN!
Tryon: my story is about a strange secluded community where sinister rites still happen Clive Barker: oh wow never heard that one before Shirley Jackson: [mumbles] Mary Shelley: what's that, Shirley? Jackson: [mumbles] Mary Shelley: Shirley also says 'oh wow never heard that one before'
Tryon: ok look Tryon: i know what you're all thinking Tryon: 'oh another folk horror story, how boring!' Tryon: well, i'll have you know Tryon: my folk horror story comes with a corny little twist
King: Barker: Lovecraft: Poe: Koontz: King: what's the twist? Tryon: the twist is it's about corn
Tryon: but seriously guys I've got a total original idea for a folk horror narrative King: let's hear it Tryon: ok Tryon: so get this Tryon: it's about a harvest festival
Tryon: everyone's always wondering Tryon: what is the dark secret of harvest home? King: what is the dark secret of harvest home? Tryon: well, to find that out Tryon: we're gonna have to go through an entire wheel of the year's worth of exposition!
Tryon: first there's planting day Koontz: oh boy! and then there's harvest home? Tryon: haha ha no dean my young friend Tryon: then there's plowing day Tryon: oh boy! and then there's harvest home? Tryon: no
Tryon: and after plowing day, there's Cornlemas Koontz: oh boy! and then there's harvest home? Tryon: haha no dean of course not! Tryon: then there's midsummer corn revel
Koontz: oh boy! and then there's harvest home? Tryon: of course not! Tryon: then there's the crowning of the corn king Koontz: oh boy! and then there's harvest home?
Tryon: no then there's husking bee Koontz: and THEN there's harvest home? Tryon: no, then there's the vernal corn equinox Koontz: Tryon: and then the fall corn equinox Koontz: Koontz: [crying] when are we gonna get to harvest home?!?
Tryon: so all year, the people of this secluded agricultural community have been acting really cagey about their pagan corn rites Tryon: hinting to the one outsider that they revere a mysterious figure called "mother" Clive Barker: is it mother earth Tryon: i Tryon: Tryon: you know what i don't know why i bother King: oh look what you did clive, you've upset him
Tryon: anyway get ready for the secret reveal Tryon: the twist is that the corn cult is matriarchal King: whaaat? Tryon: i know, right? Tryon: kinda just comes right out of nowhere doesn't it?
Angela Carter: hey that seems okay by me Carter: as a strong independent woman who is also intelligent, i think more corn cults should be matriarchal Carter: you should take notes steve King: hey i'm not on trial here!

The great majority of people who were killed for witchcraft did not think they were witches. In the majority of cases if they confessed that they were witches it was usually because they were tortured repeatedly and at length in order to obtain a confession, as was the case in the Salem witch trials, for example. These were people who faced horrifying punishment for absolutely no reason, and then were killed. So when you go around wearing a cutsie little shirt talking about the witches you couldn’t burn you are complicit in calling all of these innocent people, even the ones who had something weird going on with them and confessed freely, witches. And they weren’t. You are doing exactly the same thing as all those gross Puritans, or inquisitors. You are being worse than the medieval Catholic Church because at least they would say that witch stuff isn’t real. They weren’t witches. So knock that off.
[...]
These shirts with their pictures of women and their references to being a “granddaughter” of the women killed as witches obscure the fact that in those thousands of people killed many were men. This isn’t to say that women didn’t account for a greater number of the people killed, because they did. However, in Europe a good ten percent of the total number of people killed as witches were men. This

Midnight Pals: Final Girl
Stephen Graham Jones: Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this the tale of the girl who’s obsessed with slashers Jones: there’s this girl who just constantly talks about slashers Barker: oh that sounds really annoying Jones: Barker: like that sounds SO annoying
Jones: so one day she thinks she might be in the middle of her own slasher movie Jones: and she thinks oh shit this rules Jones: people are just gonna get murdered left and right Jones: this fucking rocks
King: so why’s she think she’s in a slasher movie? is there a killer on the loose? Jones: oh it’s cuz this hot virginal girl moves into town King: King: wait so not because anyone gets murdered? Jones: no just cuz this hot girl moves in Jones: i mean that’s usually the first indication that a slasher is around right? King: to be honest, it’s not usually the first thing I’d think of Poe: yeah that could indicate a lot of different things
Jones: so this hot but very pure girl moves into town King: and somehow that makes the slasher-obsessed girl think that she’s in a slasher movie come to life? King: but why would tha- Joss Whedon: [shrieking] SHE’S THE FINAL GIRL!!! Whedon: LET ME TELL THE STORY! Whedon: I KNOW ALL THE TROPES!
Jones: see, this girl knows the rules of a slasher movie Jones: so she knows how to- Joss Whedon: OH! OH!!! Whedon: OH!!!!!! Whedon: PICK ME!! PICK ME!! I have thoughts on this!! Jones: Jones: no Whedon: b-b-b Whedon: [weakly] b-but the tropes Whedon: [weakly] i-i need the tropes to live Whedon: [weakly] p-please Whedon: [weakly] the tropes Whedon: [pathetic cough]
Jones: also in the midst of this a whole herd of elk mysteriously dies Jones: possibly from overexertion during a pick up basketball game King: Poe: Jones: It could happen
Jones: so this girl sees some classmates going to a party Jones: so she puts on her michael myers mask and kind of stalks around in the background Jones: as you do
Jones: there’s a summer camp that was once the site of a slasher-type massacre. It was on the other side of the lake, up the road with the gas station, you know, the one  old man McGee ran? He used to sell sodas in cans, not with the pop tops. With the pull tabs. They don’t make those anymore, you can’t even get them. King: so about that massacre Jones: this is what we call local color
Jones: so i had to take the ferry over to terra nova. so i tied an onion to my belt, as was the style at the time. we didn’t have white onions on account of the war Koontz: [crying] when are we gonna get to the massacre

has anyone else got the feeling that alt people arent really a community in real life?
like when i go out in public with my goth look and i see another alt person (doesnt matter if they are also goth or decora or metal or whatever) i will smile at them, wave at them, go up to them, but none of them really seem to care at all
i have gotten side eyes, scoffs, been ignored; like what are we doing?? arent we in the same boat??
i always think its a special occasion to see another alt person!! i am still just as fascinated as i was as a little girl; why does no other alt person care as much as i do..
maybe its because teenagers/young adults are now so exposed to alt communities on tiktok/instagram that they dont really rhink that its special anymore? idk
it always makes me really sad when they are so rude :(
or is this just a problem of me not minding my own business?
