I love how posts here are or wholeheartedly wholesome, or going from slightly prissy to really dark and well into existential territory, or going just on and on about fandoms in every way and manner and I’m just sitting here and thinking ‘how’s that even on my board’, like a hypocrite.

Writing novels, writing scripts, writing poetry, and writing short stories are all completely different skills and if you’re not good at one of them yet and you’re good at another don’t beat yourself up about it. You wouldn’t call an oil painter stupid because he can’t make a bronze sculpture. He’s an oil painter. He’s never made a sculpture before. Give him a minute to figure it out.

So if you’ve only ever written short stories don’t beat yourself up because your one act play is crap. You’re learning how to walk again. Let yourself fall flat on your face a couple of times.

Quick writing tip: if you want to write a scene, just do it.

Got an idea for a scene, but don't know if it would fit in your WIP? Just write it anyway!

Get a journal, or a new document, and write it. Yes, even if it's completely out of canon. Yes, even if it's self indulgent. Yes, even if it feels like a waste of time. Why?

Increases your worldbuilding and understanding of characters

Improves your writing skill

Parts of it could be used in your WIP

You could write an incredible line you would never have thought of otherwise

Stops burnout and creates passion

It's fun, and that's what writing should be.

Now go and write that scene! Have fun!
