500 days of Summer Interpretation
OMG that film is actually painful to watch, not because it’s bad but because it is like experiencing the downfall and demise of a happy relationship- hell to the honeymoon phase. Anyways... we can all agree there is lots of controversy surrounding who the “villain” of the film is, Summer or Tom. Let’s be real anyone who emphatically says Summer is walking into social suicide (that’s why I say keep your twitter and tumblr handles anonymous). I am ashamed to say I am slightly like Tom, a bit of a romantic and an idealist, someone with high expectations, and luckily the list ends there. I will stand up for myself and say most people have those qualities and they’re not always bad things but Tom expresses them in a way which has the inevitable outcome of disappointment. Tom only cared for the idea of Summer, he welcomed her positives with open arms but shunned her negatives... he thought he could change Summer and that was the start of their (his) downfall. When Summer said “ I want casual” he should have cut it off immediately if that’s not what he wanted. He liked Summer before even knowing her, why I hear you ask... BECAUSE HE LIKED THE IDEA OF HER. Tom had a huge imagination (obvious in that strange musical sequence) and therefore he liked to imagine things. His VERY HIGH expectations were exposed in that split-screen-scene, with the reality vs expectations. Tom was dangerous for Summer because it was about him, he wanted Summer to be his but wasn’t invested in Summer wanting him. I think Tom was a bit selfish and it felt slightly objectifying the way he wanted Summer, apologies if that’s an overstatement. Anyways my conclusion is Tom was the “villain” although I haven’t discussed Summer’s faults Tom was too out of touch with reality. My question to you now is what was your interpretation of the end? Did Tom change or was he back to his old ways? (I loved how her name was Autumn)

Everyone but nobody
My thoughts are accessible to everyone but nobody will ever read them. It's like the perfect diary, in my head there is always a slight comfort that somebody could read my diary and sympathise with me but in fact I would die if someone read even a line of it. Here tumblr is perfect, everyone can read this but nobody ever will. There is a comfort in sharing how you feel with everyone and not being judged for it (I can't be judged if nobody knows)

QOFTD: Can we appreciate the art and not the artist, or are they mutually inclusive?
Morrisey is anti-immigrant and VERY right-wing, JK Rowling is transphobic. Why are the artists of great art always a bit shitty :(

Solitaire review
4.5/5
I listened to solitaire as an audiobook which made it difficult to read because I had to put all my attention towards it but I still really enjoyed it! I loved the (almost) dichotomy between Michael and Tori because they each induced the others development, they got to learn from each other. I know the book "isn't a love story" but they're soulmates, just really good together. The plot was interesting but Becky grrrrr... maybe it's because I hold grudges slightly but I didn't like how Becky and Tori just seemed to get along after what she did to her- did she ever say sorry?
SPOILER
I like the scene with Tori about to jump and Michael being there because it kind of reinforced the importance of friends. If Michael wasn't there Tori would have jumped. Tori's perspective was very entertaining throughout but I feel like at the end Alice addressed how it wasn't healthy to have Tori's mindset because it culminated in her almost... yk. So I'm glad it wasn't romanticising the sad girl trope because it's not healthy.
Overall, I loved the writing. Alice is super talented, the quote about looking through a dirty window was *chefs kiss*- original yet completely understandable. I loved the characters. I wish solitaire had a bit more of a conclusion but that's okay.
Anyways... I loved it
