I grew up in a Christian fundamentalists Church and we were supposed to read the entire Bible cover to cover every single year. I’ve read the whole thing at least 5 times. (KJV bc the other translations are “tainted with liberal agenda”) You have my sympathy.

I’m sorry to hear you had that experience. Having religion forced on you is, in a word, unpleasant, so you have my sympathy in that regard. Fortunately I’m doing this on my own terms and at my own pace and as part of a larger research project, so it’s not that miserable. The Bible is a fascinating document and important touchstone in literary history, and approaching it from that angle makes for a significantly less painful reading experience.
