Josiah hadn't quite realized how tired he'd been. Of course, that was until he'd sprawled out on the bed and listened to the way that the water pouring from the faucet lulled him into a slumber. One that he'd likely be in for awhile; one thing about Josiah was when he was this tired, he had a tendency not to hear much and would sleep through a tornado he was certain. So when he heard her calling his name, he was already out and hadn't heard her. The only indication he was still breathing was the faint snore and the way he rolled over onto his side from his stomach. @calxwallace
Calliope was having the time of her life. She loved everything about Italy and Italy seemed to love her right back. Free samples, all the salesmen calling her bella, of which she was certain meant they called her beautiful. Free desserts and not to forget, the sights. Her legs were tired from walking around all day, so when they got to the hotel, she was dying for a shower. "I feel like I ate a horse. That pizza was great." She breathed, tossing her bag, sunhat and sunglasses on the nearby desk. "Really? Ugh, you're the best." She just about didn't skip into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. "I'll just take a quick shower!" She yelled from inside, already turning on the shower so the water could heat up. The quick shower turned a little longer, deciding to shave as well as put in a hair mask. So when she came out, hair still a little damp as the hairdryer didn't work as well as she was used to, she peeked around the doorpost first, as she was clad in a towel. "Josiah?" @josiahhuddington

"I think you're right." Josiah nodded, though he hated to admit it. But it wasn't something that he'd never seen before; it happened like this all the time. He knew what it was like, to be out in the world doing whatever was needed - he himself had put himself in a few too many situations that weren't deemed safe - but he'd not regretted a minute of it. This was different though; he had to be responsible where others were being reckless. "You're welcome." he spoke with a nod, letting himself watch as the other seemed to be beyond exhausted. "I'll head out in a minute to follow up with some of them." he nodded. "I just wanted to check back in here first." he admitted. "You know I won't let them injure themselves. I'll do that myself first." @galexpeterson
"One that I'm sure went in through one ear and out the other." He sighed, rubbing his eyes. It was a particularly long day, and so far he already had a few officers disregarding their own safety. Of course they had to do whatever they could to make sure citizens were safe, but they were being reckless and Gale had no use for such heroics. His hand moved to his neck, rubbing the strain out of it as Josiah listed off what he had done while he had been away. When he brought up the coffee however, he seemed to only then notice the cups in his hands. "Thank you." He told him, taking the cup from him and taking a sip from it. He hadn't even had a sip of water in a while, so to say he was parched was an understatement. "They could do with an extra pair of hands and eyes. Especially the experienced kind." He knew it was scut work, looking after the rookies and make sure they didn't mess up, but he already had a detective down with a dislocated shoulder and others that were being outright stupid that he needed Josiah's experience. "Just.. Make sure they don't get themselves injured. Or we'll be having a serious debriefing tomorrow no one wants me to give them." @josiahhuddington

"That we would." he agreed, offering her a smile. There had always been a comfort there that he'd never gotten from anyone else, even before Rome when their relationship had become more physical. It was something he didn't regret - only that they hadn't done so sooner - and in it's own way, even without a label it was something he couldn't get enough of. It was why in most cases he didn't hesitate to see her any opportunity he had, even if it was just to give her a kiss on the cheek and go on about their way. It was the way that he preferred to end every day. He'd lost track of time, too lost in his thoughts when she spoke again and Josiah nodded. "I appreciate it, but, just know this is all I need right now." he admitted, exhaling before he pulled away a little. He listened as she explained how her day was, a nod as she explained she'd helped out with dispatch. He wasn't shocked, she was the kind of person to help out wherever she could. No questions asked. "That call sounds hard." he nodded, knowing that she was being truthful about how she was thankful it wasn't her that had taken it. For what it was worth - even if he knew that she could handle it - he wouldn't want her to carry that weight of it. It was only once her hands were wrapped around his neck he instinctively pulled her closer, nodding when she said that she contacted everyone, her sister included. "I'm always proud of you." he smiled. "But that is huge. Did it go okay? Or was it mostly just casual check in?" @calxwallace
"If there's no water, we'll just have to get creative." Calliope teased, not about to desert their teasing flanter just because they gave in to their compulsions. She just got to enjoy both the verbal and physical side of it now, even if what they were was still up in the air. "What I want is to make sure you're well fed after the day you've had." She smiled, resisting the urge to roll her eyes at him. She shouldn't have expected otherwise, however. He always had been a gentleman that way, considerate more of the feelings and efforts of others than his own wants. She let out a satisfied breath, feeling his lips next to her mouth. Feeling the way her body wanted to give in to the urge to hold on tightly to him, especially when he backed away a moment later, much to her chagrin. "I am absolutely fine. I helped at dispatch all day until eight. That's when I got to go home." Which meant she had worked three hours past her ending time. But that was nothing compared to his shift, so she wasn't going to complain for a second. And time had flown by with how hectic everything had gone. "Chaotic phone calls, scared people. But luckily nothing that I couldn't handle. Melinda received a call about a woman who fell down a set of stairs. Said she couldn't feel her legs. Glad that wasn't me." She let out a breath, removing the ladle from the soup as she stopped stirring so she could turn around, placing her hands in his neck. "Everyone's okay. Shaken up, but they're okay. I even texted my sister, you'd be proud of me." Not that she had answered her sister back, but at least the effort was made. @josiahhuddington

He watched as his sister made her way into his place and he closed the door, taking a step towards her. He - somewhat aggressively - pulled her into a hug and exhaled as he let go of her, nodding at her question. "Yeah, briefly." He spoke. "They were both freaking out that you'd left but I reassured them you were grown and that you were fine." he stated, though, he'd been a little nervous at the thought himself; it had taken a lot not to put his police cap on and go on a man hunt himself. "I reassured them that I hadn't seen you or talked to you, but that I call." he stated, looking at her. "Which I assume you haven't seen." he sighed. "Unless that's why you're here -" he paused, shaking his head. "Do you need anything? Food, something to drink?" he asked. "And you're sure you're alright?" It was all rushed questions, something that he had a tendency to do when he was worried. A reflection of his ADHD catching up to him. "Sorry." he apologized, shaking his head. "One question at a time. You hungry?" he repeated. @lorelaihuddington
When the door opened, she looked at her brother and shuffled her feet. "Hey." She said back before listening to his question. "Yeah. I'm fine." Lorelai answered before walking into his place. It was funny to her that she hadn't come out to visit him before, but the place looked nice. "Have you talked to Mom or Dad?" She asked curiously and wondered if their parents had shared the fact that she had just taken off without any word or even answered her phone in a few days. It was very unlike her and while she felt a little bad, she wasn't regretting it. @josiahhuddington

"For all you know I could have company." Josiah wiggled his eyebrows teasingly, scooting out of the way to let his brother into his place. He was shirtless, but, his jeans, socks and belt gave all the more indication that Kacey hadn't caught him in the middle of anything; even if his hair was a little more disheveled than he'd like but that was because he'd towel dried it. Plus it was his brother; the two had literally seen each other at their worst. "I almost invited Lorelai to come hang with us but I know we haven't had any brother bonding time and the next time Mom calls I want to be able to tell her I spent time with you." he spoke, hugging his brother, tapping him on the back. "How was Beau today? Drop off go alright or did you have to fight everyone again?" @kaceyxhuddington
He had another stressful drop-off with his son, Beau, and his ex. He didn't know why it was always so hard on him and why his ex had to be the way she was. He was now sad he didn't have Beau and was just in a sour mood. But he had texted his brother to see if he wanted to hang out and got a yes from him. He had walked to Josiah's place, and then they planned to go out to eat at some place once they picked a place. He walked up to the door and knocked, looking at his phone for a second before his brother opened the door. "Took you long enough," he teased his brother, trying to make his day better with a joke. @josiahhuddington.

"I could say the same about Xena." Josiah laughed, shaking his head as he watched the dogs. "There was a chihuahua in this park the other day that was giving Xena more attention than she wanted - if you know what I mean - and she was having no part of it. But the second Cooper arrived this morning you'd think they'd been separated for years." Josiah honestly thought it was adorable, watching his dog rekindle a playdate with her furry best friend; he'd personally always hold first place spot as her human best friend. "They're cute though." he nodded. "How are things with you? Haven't seen you around in a bit but I know I've also been somewhat distracted." @le0nxrd0perez
Who: @josiahhuddington and Leo
Where: Park
When: August 2025
"I'm pretty sure Xena and Cooper are the equivalent of a canine couple," Leo said as he pointed to his dig and Josiah's as they seemed to be playing together under the shade of a tree. The German Shepherd was friendly, but his tail seemed to wag a little but faster when noticing the Australian Shepherd at the dog park. Leo pushed his sunglasses back onto the top of his head as he turned to his colleague and friend. "Good thing he has some good taste," he laughed.

"I appreciate your patience." Josiah spoke, eyes meeting hers as he extended his arms to take the box. There was a specific donation area that people were sorting through the items inside and putting them in the appropriate places. He'd take this there in a moment; for now, he'd left her standing here alone long enough. "We also really appreciate the donation." he stated, glancing at the box, scanning the items briefly. "These are honestly the kind of things we need more of usually; I take it you've done something like this before." he smiled. "Everything on your end okay?" he questioned. "Anything you need from this to help yourself out from the earthquake?" @saanvixsurya
When it came to helping others, Saanvi was always someone to step up. She dedicated her entire life to making sure discovered remains had a home. So when an earthquake went through her hometown, she knew that she wanted, no needed to step up and help others. The donation line had been long and it wasn't until she got to the front that she felt some relief from standing on her feet for at least an hour while people in front of her donated. However, once she reached the front of the line, Josiah was quickly deterred to someone else for some time before he returned. "No need to apologize," she smiled, realizing the situation at hand. "I've brought a lot of canned goods, old clothes, blankets," things that Saanvi could easily do without. @josiahhuddington

"Thankfully there's not a lot of crime." Josiah smiled, looking at her. "It does make my job a little boring sometimes, but, I'd rather be bored with more time to be at the gym or something than living in a town where everyone is in danger." he shrugged, offering her a small smile. "Cameras are good. I recommend them to everyone." he admitted, following her as she gave him permission to look at anything he needed. He only smiled wider when he also got permission to pet the dog, smiling as he kneeled to do just that. "Hello." he smiled, watching as the dog approached, ear scratches, and head pets in full swing. "You're a sweet little thing, my girl would love you." he smiled, looking back at the human. "Is it as peaceful out here all the time as it seems to be right now?" @aliyebalik
"Not totally surprising, there's not a lot of crime going on around here. People are pretty great. I have them just as a precaution since I post online a lot," she shrugged. She'd been fortunate in having avoided any major weird experiences with fans from her shows crossing boundaries, but liked to be safe with it. Moving over to the control panel on the boat, Aliye started to pull things back up from the night before as they chatted. "Yeah, come hop on aboard, you can look through anything you need to," she offered, sitting down to start scrolling back through to the time that Josiah requested. "But, please, pet away. She's more likely to freak out if you don't give her attention. She thrives on it." Tavua was practically bouncing with excitement at that point, a low whine coming out as she waited for the man to properly acknowledge her.

"it's not. Pleasant that is." completing the statement with a shrug. "But, sometimes when I need the exercise and only have mid day to make it out here I do it," a pause. "It could be worse." He listened as she admitted that she wasn't much of a hiker to begin with and he chuckled. "I've heard that a few times myself." he admitted. "And that's okay. I will say though, there are all sorts of clubs and community hangouts that people go to around town. Check out town hall, sometimes people have things posted there with contact information." he admitted. "What sort of things do you usually do?" he questioned. I may be able to help guide you to someone with a similar interest." @kamelyaxyilmaz
"Interesting," Kamelya started, pursing her lips. In fact, the brunette did find it interesting. Hiking was the last thing that she ever thought she'd be doing and even had to go buy hiking boots. "I can't imagine it's pleasant at all to go in the midst of the day when it's hot." She agreed, wrinkling her nose with the thought. The amount of sweat someone would have would be too much for her. She was used to her nice air conditioned walks through her former building in New York City. But, she supposed she would have to get used to something else now. "I appreciate that, but it's alright" She shook her head, "Admittedly, I'm not much of a hiker to begin with. But I just moved here and well," she trailed off, "I have to start somewhere, right?" @josiahhuddington

"That's a bummer." he stated, letting his hand brush some hair behind her ear instead. "Well, I can't promise I have water, but, you're more than welcome to come back with me and check if you want." he stated, shrugging as if it was the most nonchalant thing he'd said all day. He was just trying not to be too hopeful that she'd say yes. Though the thought was quickly replaced by the sadness it felt when she walked away and his desire to be touching her constantly. Which he'd proven by wrapping his arms around her at the stove. "Not unless you want to." he shook his head. "I'm more than happy with just soup." he stated, eyes glancing back at her as she kissed his chin. Things between them had only gotten better since their trip to Italy; a little more physical but a lot more comfortable. At least for Josiah. He shifted, leaning forward and placed a kiss on the side of her mouth, backing away a moment later, resting his hand on her lower back. "Are you okay though?" he asked. "For real? I wouldn't put it past you to tell me you were fine until I got here." he exhaled. "And the girls?" he questioned, referring to her roommates. "Everyone's okay I take it?" @calxwallace
"No there's water, but it turned brown after a couple of seconds." She told him, though it was what he said after that conjured a smile on her lips. "Damn, now I wish I would've opted for no water at all." The thought that maybe he had the same issue or no water at all hadn't even crossed her mind, too enamoured by the suggestion that she was still more than tempted to take him up on it. Not before she had him fed, anyway. She was relieved to see nothing had stuck to the bottom and it was still in the process of turning to a liquid and heating up at a nice low pace. Calliope found herself leaning against her chest once his arms closed around her again, her free hand moving up to tousle through his hair while the other mindlessly stirred in the pot. "I'll remind you you said that if I ever burn something in the future. But tonight you deserve a perfect bowl of soup. I can also bake a baguette if you want that with it?" She offered, moving onto the tip of her toes to kiss him on the chin. "You're welcome." @josiahhuddington

"One hell of a speech you gave, Sheriff." Josiah spoke, having taken note of the 'do not enter without a firefighter clearance' especially. He wasn't very good at following that rule. "I reunited a few kids with their families at the grocery store, did an interview by the beach about what I knew, stopped a traffic jam from happening with everyone panicking." he began rattling off the things he'd done in order since the natural disaster occurred. "Brought you a coffee." he stated, handing Gale the full cup while he sipped on the other. "Where do you need me?" he questioned. "The rookies look really shaken up so if you want me to go out with anyone in particular just say the word." @galexpeterson
starter for @josiahhuddington
"We are moving up to the next block. I want people evacuated before the goddamn sun is setting." Gale briefed a whole number of officers, the rookies among them clearly nervous but given the circumstances, Gale was the last to judge. This wasn't an every day kind of occurrence after all. "Go out there, call out to people, search buildings but never without firefighters present to deem them safe. I know it's been a long day, but the end is in sight. More busses will arrive in thirty minutes, lets get to it." He clapped his hands, signaling the end of his little speech, then turning, noticing Josiah. "You're back. Any news?" @josiahhuddington

"That's good." Josiah nodded, eyes focusing on the other. "Sometimes I can't tell if longer to plan a wedding or doing it spontaneously is easier." he shrugged. "But I'm glad you guys are getting there; it'll be here soon." he laughed. "I try to be." Josiah laughed, shaking his head at the other's compliment. "I'm not one that typically flaunts my title but if it benefits." he shrugged. "I also wouldn't be in this career if I wasn't a good man." he admitted, but he knew he didn't have to say that out loud. Talking about Calliope made Josiah's smile widen. "You can't." he admitted. "And I know that we lost a lot of time too through the years for whatever reason." he shrugged. "I'm not sure yet what's going to happen, but I think we're on the same page. Certainly feels like it anyways." @elianxbrowne
"I'm beginning to see why people might say that." Eli's chuckle parted his lips. He shook his head, "There's a lot of boxes to check, but luckily we've had our fair share of time to plan it." Well over a year at this point, even if he had been in some rush to marry Isla after all the years they lost. "You're a good man, Sheriff," he gave the other a wink, appreciating the man's friendship. "No shit," Eli felt his lips part in surprise, but a good one. "Hey, you can't beat that. I know how that goes." His own feelings for Isla had never gone away, even if they were feelings that he had not once admitted to many years ago. "I'm rooting for you, my man." @josiahhuddington

It had been a crazy few days in Kismet Harbor, but, Josiah was enjoying every minute of helping out. Not that helping out in this sense was fun; it was quite tragic and people had lost so many things, but, being helpful - and useful - was one of Josiah's favorite parts of his job. He'd taken a shorter day today which had just meant he'd gotten home at the time he should have, and had just finished showering and made himself a bowl of cereal for dinner when he heard a knock at the door. He wasn't expecting company, but, he knew sometimes his friends or Calliope would show up unannounced which was what he half expected. Though, to his surprise when he opened the door and saw his little sister standing there, his eyes widened. "Lorelai, hey." he spoke, holding the door open and moving out of the way. "Are you okay? Come in." he spoke, all in one rushed sentence, but there was a slight panic in his voice at her randomly being there. Protective big brother instincts he assumed. @lorelaihuddington
closed starter for @josiahhuddington location: josiah's place
Lorelai had been in Kismet Harbor for a few days now and was shocked by the state of it. She had been traveling when the earthquake had hit and because she was avoiding her phone, she hadn't really seen anything on it until she got to town. She ended up at the Homey Inn where they luckily had a room available and rented it for a few days while she decided when she should go see her brother. She was nervous to do it, but also figured he might be busy with everything going on in town. Finally, she ended up at his house and knocked on the door; hoping he was home as she stood awkwardly at the door.

The banter between the two of them was never something Josiah would get used to. Even if it was just with their eyes - a glance here, a look there - it was something he had grown to admire, to look forward to and he couldn't help the way that it made him feel. "Matching, got it." he smiled. He'd do just that, too.
-- TIME SKIP --
"After you." Josiah spoke, holding the door open for Cali as they made their way into the hotel room. They were on day four of exploring Italy and everything the town had to offer them and Josiah was exhausted. They'd be gone from nearly sun up to sun down and sleeping on the pull out couch he'd not been sleeping well. At least not as well as he would've back home; Cali would likely argue as she'd told him a few nights she'd heart him snoring. "Bathroom's all yours too." he smiled, taking a step into the room, closing and locking the door behind them. "Take as much time as you need, I'll be fine waiting." @calxwallace
"I think--" Calliope started at his question, but then smiled, shaking her head, when he decided to change after all. "See if you have something matching." She joked, not requiring him to wear something pink, though she was certain he would look stunning in it. She couldn't deny that her heart rate went up a little when he winked at her, appreciating how he made her feel seen, even if it was in a purely platonic way. She sat down on one of the chairs when he reemerged, shirtless, jeans unbuttoned that she was unapologetically staring at him. This was going to be a great vacation. "Yes, Sir." She spoke, getting up to pick up the toiletry bag and making her way over to him with slow steps. "Just the afternoon? You got plans?" Calliope teased, handing him what he asked for. "Don't hurry on my behalf. Who doesn't like a half naked Adonis in her room?" @josiahhuddington

The comfort Josiah found with Calliope in his arms wasn’t something he was afraid to admit. It was sometimes something he was afraid of, but, he’d surpassed caring about getting his heart broken again a long time ago. So as he stood there, arms draped around her, he felt like he was home. He only shifted a little when she said she wasn’t able to shower. “Do you have water in the apartment? As in you turn it in something comes out or is the water shut off?” He questioned. “If it’s the latter, you can come stay with me for the night if you want. I haven’t been home to even confirm I have water myself, but.” He shrugged. Though, he felt himself distracted when she took a step away, distracted as she cursed about the food. A tiny ache filled his chest at the lack of her being close by so he followed, smiling as he wrapped his arms around her from behind, clearly content again with an audible sigh as she was close by again. He’d laugh about it later if she brought it up; right now it’s what he needed. “You know you could burn it to a crisp and I’d still eat it right?” He questioned. “It smells amazing though, thank you.” @calxwallace
Calliope: Drive safe. I'll be here in ten and twenty minutes regardless xx.
And yet, Calliope was impatiently looking on her smart watch, the minutes feeling like hours while she waited. She got some of the leftovers out of the freezer, some soup that she put in a bag so all she had to do was break it into chunks and slowly heat it over a low fire. While it was doing that, she unlocked the front door and left it slightly ajar so she could hurry into her bedroom, change from a towel into pyjama shorts and a tank top, her hair in a messy bun, using body lotion while stirring in soup every now and again, watching how the blocks slowly turned to liquid. The creaking of the front door caught her attention however, having her walk into the hallway. Calliope was never concerned with her own safety, and maybe she should be considering what happened to her oldest sister so she didn't see the danger in leaving the door open. It was like she had forgotten how to breathe from the moment she saw him until he finally held her in his arms. "Shut up, I couldn't even shower. I think the earthquake ruined the pipes." She sighed, glad that he was finally home. Looking up at him, her lips turned into a smile, barely masking the tired look in her eyes. "I opened it for you, of course." She told him fingertips brushing against the nape of his neck. That's when her eyes widened and she suddenly moved away from him and towards the kitchen as she forgot stirring was a thing. "Shit, your food." she had cussed while she hurriedly tiptoed through the hallway, though luckily it being on low heat had saved it from her momentary distraction. @josiahhuddington

Josiah📱: Okay, I'm about ten minutes away. I'll be there soon. Food would be great, yeah. Thank you.
He pulled up to Cali's apartment exactly ten minutes later, and after tossing half is uniform into the passenger's seat of his Jeep, he drug himself to her apartment, knocking on the door. Though, he didn't take long to realize the door was unlocked - and slightly ajar - so he let himself in. There was a bit of panic setting in at the door left ajar like that, but, he was trying not to freak out as his mind raced at the worst. His smile widened when she came into view, long legs and wide strides leading him to her quicker than normal. But he didn't care. Arms snaked around her in a hug, face burying in her hair as he inhaled, finding comfort in her presence. "You smell good, Cal." he whispered, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, standing there for a moment. In it's own way, this was the confirmation that he needed that she was okay, both post earthquake and also that she'd not been kidnapped like his mind tried to convince him of seconds prior. "You always leave your door open like that or is just because I was coming over?" he asked. @calxwallace
𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 @calxwallace
It had been an exceptionally long day and Josiah had done as much as he could to help the people at Wonderworld Market. He's been successful - as he usually was - doing anything he could to make someone's day easier. It was exhausting but he'd managed to reunite three different families who had gotten separated, helped some people stuck under debris and took some emergency calls for some people trapped in cars. All things that felt heavier with the weight of the earthquake looming overhead. As he wrapped up his day, he pulled out his phone and sent Calliope a quick text.
Josiah📱: Does that offer to come by still stand? I'm finally finished with work and was going to head over.
