...it was standing room only at Hamilton Landmark Galleries for En Foco's talk "Kamoinge: Advocacy & Legacies" for a timely and enlightening conversation with co-curators Shawn Walker and Adger Cowans, co-founding members of Kamoinge and photographers Antonio Johnson. Slide for video capturing excerpts of the conversation (1-3); works from the series "Dad Duty" by Ocean Morisset; "All Power to the People" by Sharry Danes and "You, Next" by Antonio Johnson. These black and white photographs capture the black experience and community by dispelling the absent father myth, connecting advocacy and civil rights struggles to the present inspired by the Black Panthers and building community and wellness in the unique setting of barbershops.
