Stories I'll Write One Day :: Superboy and the Invisible Girl
Comic readers first met Connie Kent in Superman #1 (1939) alongside the first appearance of Clark Kent's adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha. Initially unnamed and marginally featured, 1948's Superman #53 established the young girl seen in the backgrounds of various comic panels as Constance Judith Kent, Clark's adoptive sister. While writers will often modify her age, making her older or younger than Clark to fit the needs of the story, she has consistently never been given powers like her brother. In most of her appearances, Connie is a bright, tenacious girl with dreams of leaving the family farm and embracing life in the city. There is an underlying theme of jealousy in most of her storylines. While she loves her brother, she finds it at times difficult to live in his shadow as he begins to develop his powers and becomes Superman. Connie has appeared in a number of animated and live action Superman adaptations, including Smallville (2001, played by Katie Holmes) and the CW's Arrow (2012) and its subsequent connected universe of spin-offs (played by Maude Apatow). The Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel (2011) stirred up controversy when it was announced that Connie would not be part of the story. The film faced fierce backlash on social media for the decision, with many fans citing Connie Kent as one of DC Comics' most progressive characters for her time. In response, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) gave the character a nod with Constance "CJ" Johnson (Jennifer Connelly), a childhood friend and confidant of Clark's who, knowing his secret identity, comes to Superman's funeral; CJ enjoyed a larger role in the 2017 sequel Justice League. Most recently, Margaret Qualley brought Connie Kent to life in James Gunn's Superman (2025), back in her role as Clark's caring older sister. Working as a photographer for The Daily Planet, Connie stands by Clark through the truth about his birth parents' final message, the turning tides of public opinion, and the fight to save their home and prove his benevolent intentions.
I blame @juliaswickcrs for this entirely (and I love her for it)

HIGHER FURTHER FASTER :: CHAPTER UPDATE ( chapter one )
AO3
Clark was late again.  His third alarm blared in his ears as he struggled to pull on his pants and shoes. Every day he promised himself he would wake up thirty minutes before his shift to get a start on the day, and every day he seemed to sleep through each of his alarms.  It was an old habit, one his Ma had tried to help him break many times back home, but it was no use. Clark could lift tractors with one hand and run long distances in less than a second, but he still couldn’t figure out how to show up to places on time.

SHIPPING questions for Billie?
OOOOH LETS GO
What do you imagine the most popular ship(s) for your character would be?
Clark/Billie (obviously), Lois/Billie, and Jimmy/Billie. There would also be a small cult of Lex/Billie/Clark shippers who would go FERAL.
Are there ship wars? Are they a popular character to ship, or the kind of character that gets shuffled off and away from shipping for whatever reason?
There are so many shipping wars. They get out of hand so quickly.
How does fandom characterize/mischaracterize your characters ship in fanworks?
OH MY GOD IT WOULD BE SO BAD YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. In Lex/Billie fics, Clark would be seen as controlling or abusive, and in Clark/Lex fics or Clark/Lois fics, Billie would be seen as toxic and annoying. Overall, Billie and Clark would be seen as very sweet and cute by the fandom, with a lot of their arguments going unaddressed. Billie, would however, be subject to the classic "annoying love interest" syndrome by the fandom, particularly by Clex shippers.
If your character isn’t designed for shipping/isn’t interested in shipping, how hard does fandom have to mangle them to make them shipping material/open to a relationship?
Not very hard.
Be honest. What song is playing over an AMV/tiktok of scenes between your character and their love interest?
SO HIGH SCHOOL BY TAYLOR SWIFT SO HIGH SCHOOL BY TAYLOR SWIFT.
What is the wildest crackship you can imagine for your character, whether in-universe or in crossover?
Billie Barnes and Carol Danvers. It would be iconic, but it would be WEIRD.
What is the quote between your character and their love interest/whoever they might be shipped with that their fans would latch onto?
I don't know yet, but hopefully I will soon.
What’s the discourse surrounding your ship?
Standard shipping discourse. They're actually bad for each other, Clark works better with Lois, Lex is a more interesting connection for Billie, etc. etc. And ofc like I mentioned, she'd be seen as the classic "annoying love interest"

do fic readers know that their comments actually influence the course of the story sometimes? i don't mean in a "you need to write it this way because i say so 😡" type of comment, i mean when people are asking questions or really engaging with the plot and the themes in the comments they sometimes bring up things that i didn't even think of, or dig into parts of the story that i've overlooked, or get really interested/fixated on something i was going to just kind of glance over--and it has me going 'oh wait that's actually really interesting, that's a good point' and fully adding or tweaking or changing things about the story going forward. i'm literally adding an entire additional chapter to something right now because someone's comment had me like "oh i didn't dig into that as much as i could have." you have impact!

META ASKS: If Your OC Was Canon.
BASIC:
What changes do you think would be made between your muse as they exist in your head vs how they would be treated as part of canon?
What plot points would change due to the inclusion of your character in canon?
What role would your character play in the story? Are they a major player, or a one scene wonder?
If there are multiple adaptions/If they are part of a multi-part franchise, which ones would your character appear in?
Besides your face/voiceclaim, who do you think would be cast as your character?
If your character had a breakout show/film/comic, what would the plot be? Who would be in their supporting cast?
What headcanons/theories do you believe fandom would invent about your character?
FANDOM:
What do you think the fandom for your character would be like? Are they a fan favorite, a love to hate villain, derided for whatever reason, or something else?
What feelings does your character most often instill in their fans? Affection? A desire to protect? Open lust? A love/hate dynamic? Why do you think their fans feel this way?
By contrast, what would their haters dislike about your character? Is it a petty complaint? A mischaracterization of the character or their intentions? Are they just a woman in a largely male-centric series?
What controversies/drama would your character incite in fandom?
What fan-material would exist for your character in fandom?
Is your character the subject of ‘imagines’ or ‘x reader’ style blogs?
Are there any tropes fandom would put upon your character, for better or for worse?
What would be the ‘incorrect but wildly popular’ interpretation of your character in fandom?

COMIC BOOK EDITS :: BILLIE BARNES
↳ A History of the Character Below
Sybil 'Billie' Barnes was first introduced in the Silver Age Comic Book Series Green Lantern co-starring Green Arrow, as a contemporary of Hal Jordan's with an unknown connection to Oliver Queen and Star City. The popularity of the character led to several cameo appearances as a supporting character in Green Arrow's solo run until her death in Crisis on Infinite Earths alongside Kara Zor-El and Barry Allen.
Upon the reboot of the DC Universe, Barnes was reimagined as Oliver Queen's cousin who'd moved to Metropolis following her time in the Air Force as a fighter pilot. This version of the character was meant to be a direct response to the popularity of Marvel Comic's Carol Danvers, and as such was given powers to match. Billie Barnes was retooled as a Metahuman, whose powers came from being exposed to alien material via explosion. She also became more of a supporting character for Superman rather than the Green Arrow. Her first live action appearance was in Smallville, portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar as a friend of Lana Lang's who moved to Kansas after her dad was stationed on the military base there following the meteorite storm. Her popularity on the TV show led DC to create her own solo comic book series, Starbird. Legal issues arose following the production of the CW's Arrow, where the creators Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti wished to adapt her character into the pilot as Oliver Queen's sister after scrapping her from 2011's Green Lantern. However, due to rumors that Barnes would be appearing in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, she was replaced and retooled into the character Thea Queen. Eventually Billie Barnes made her appearance in Season 2 of the CW's Arrowverse as Oliver and Thea's cousin, played by Brie Larson, who was originally cast in the Green Lantern movie before her character was scrapped. In the backdoor pilot of The Flash, Billie Barnes was granted her abilities as a metahuman after being blasted by the particle accelerator rather than an alien explosion. This version of Barnes was more in line with her Silver Age counterpart, playing a vital role on Team Arrow and getting her own storyline in the five part series Crisis on Infinite Earths. Zack Snyder's version of the character, played by breakout star Emilia Clarke, made her first appearance in the blockbuster Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, as Bruce Wayne's estranged sister who he saves in Metropolis. She was known as Sybil, rather than Billie, and went by the last name Wayne. Snyder preferred the chemistry between Clarke and Cavill, and admitted he had plans to make Billie Superman's ultimate love interest by the end of the film. Emilia Clarke was initially promised a bigger role in Snyder's Justice League, but after Whedon was added to the film, her role was cut extensively and most of her scenes given to Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Clarke eventually returned to reshoot her scenes for the Snydercut in 2021, where her role was greatly expanded. Billie Barnes would get her fourth live action appearance when James Gunn took over the DC Cinematic Universe, with Alycia Debnam-Carey's casting being announced alongside David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Gunn admitted he was taking most of his inspiration from the character's solo run, where she was discharged from the Air Force and became a lawyer that repeatedly clashed with reporter Clark Kent. Gunn has not confirmed whether or not Barnes has her powers by the time of Superman, but has toyed with the idea of showing how she gets them onscreen and has confirmed she will make an appearance in the Green Lanterns show as a former protege of Hal Jordan. Fans also believe the inclusion of Barnes means Gunn intends to tackle the story of Green Arrow at some point in the future.

bitch tell me how they meet, idc about spoilers atp I NEED to know
Thank you bby for answering my siren call, I needed this. And honestly, I'm feeling generous, I'll tell you about the two times Billie and Clark meet. I'm saving Billie and Superman for later hehehe
MEETING ONE: His Apartment
Clark is walking home from a, frankly, rough day at the Daily Planet and when he stops by his apartment, he sees a pair of beaten up converse behind a large pile of boxes heading into the apartment just down the door from him. Him, being an absolute gentleman, is like "hey, do you need help?" and ofc Billie being Billie, tells him "No, I don't" when she clearly does and Clark helps take some of the boxes from her into her apartment, where he finally gets a good look at her. Billie pretends she had it handled, Clark banters back with an "oh yeah, I could tell" and offers to help her move the rest of her stuff in. There they meet up with Billie's friend Simone, who immediately takes a liking to Clark. Clark then leaves them alone, but overhears Simone call him cute and it makes him blush. Later that night, he tries his hand at befriending Billie by asking if she wants to share some Chinese food after he ordered too much, but she turns him down cause she's sweaty and studying up for the trial on Monday.
MEETING TWO: The Courthouse
Clark is late coming into the trial, but manages to get a seat in the back. The centerpiece is Will Ross--Billie's boss and mentor--but Clark, noticing everything, nearly drops his pen when he sees Billie present new evidence to the court. Billie meanwhile, notices Clark almost as soon as he comes into the courthouse and he makes her NERVOUS. Their first conversation comes after court adjourns for the day and Will greets Clark as they recognize each other from their days in Smallville. Will then passes on Clark to Billie, saying that "she's the best" and leaves them to their devices. Billie immediately starts walking away and Clark gives chase, claiming he didn't know who she was, she calls bullshit and believes he was just being nice to her to get a good scoop, which he refutes and eventually she says something to the effect of "I can't believe I considered eating Chinese food with you." Which makes Clark smile. The rest is kind of up in the air, but it does end with Billie slamming the courthouse door in Clark's face with a smirk.
THANK YOU!! God I love these two.
