Season 8
God what a fucking season.
I've been a Beth fan since season 5 and she's always been my favourite character so I. WAS. FED. THIS SEASON.
I will say this scene, from the new episode hit really hard for me personally
I won't bore you all with the details but growing up, especially in my teen years I hated my mother and we would fight all the time about everything, very Lorelai and Emily Gilmore if you've ever watched Gilmore Girls. So hearing Beth say "I'm so confused, I remember loving my dad and then hating my dad". That for me resonated deeply.
I think, if you've ever had a toxic relationship with a parent you start to resent and hate them while equally constantly trying to please and impress them. This scene really reminded me why I love this show and Beth's character so much. Because this scene, along with many others, shows what can happen to some one when they don't have somewhere to go or someone to talk to. They build their feelings up, they resent others for being able to emotionally express themselves, just like Beth does with Jerry. And then it all starts to spill out until eventually all they can do is cry. It happened to Beth from Rick and morty, it happened to Lorelai from Gilmore Girls, and it happened to me.

SPOILER WARNING FOR RICK AND MORTY S8 EP10
I’m gonna do a far more detailed review of s8 ep10 (and also season 8 as a whole). But I just needed to get something out right now. Cus I’m currently sitting downstairs at 6:30am with my dog running on 3 hours of sleep so…
.Holy FUCK
. The idea that Diane could possibly come back did cross my mind, but I ruled it out with the fact that she was featured last season and I just didn’t think Adult swim would be that nice to me. BUT THEY WHERRREEEE
. I also didn’t expect that the plot would shift to revolve around Beth. BUT IT DIIIIDDDDD
. This was by far the best ep of season 8 and possibly ever
Anyway this post it’s pointless, but my dog stinks and if I keep sitting hear with my thoughts and my stinky dog I’m gonna have a brain haemorrhage so… take this for now and I’ll put out something better when Ive had a nap and can comprehend a plausible thought

I’m gonna laugh if the new the season 8 finale is actually centred around Jerry instead of Rick
#rick and morty#adult animation#ngl I’d be happy with either but everyone seems so dead set that this ep is going to be surrounding memory Rick#imagine we all sit down to watch it and it’s just Jerry lmao#animation#beth smith#jerry smith#morty smith#rick and morty season 8#season 8#summer smith#rick sanchez

‘I'm Charles Manson because I gave you your own world instead of an iPad’
If Beth had been raised in a time with iPads, she would’ve been in her element watching all the MLP parodies on Youtube. After all, they contain her two favourite things: horses and extreme gore.

I think this would tip me over the edge, but I really hope your right
Hot Rick Prediction:
So I think Memory Rick has been messing with Jerry's memories.
By a young Beth. (Sibce Jerry mentioned Rick being at their wedding; a little before Beth gave birth to Summer; so maybe 17 year old Beth?)
I don't think Memory Rick has been messing with Jerry puposefully or maliciously. I think that inititally Memory Rick was sneaking around Jerry's mind; trying to avoid being spotted.
But then he did get spotted.
By a member of the Smith family.
And she asks him to stay.
And because it's his baby girl who asked him, he does.
He hangs around. He teases Jerry. He tries to support Beth through teen parenthood. He plays dress up with Summer when she's a toddler. He's there when Morty is born; and when he takes his first steps.
He stays.
He never meant to mess with Jerry's memories; but he just couldn't bring himself to stay away from his family.
Memory Rick doesn't really care about escaping Jerry's mind anymore. He doesn't even really care what happens to Rick Prime anymore either.
He just wants to be part of his family's life now.
(This would also strongly parallel to Rick C137's and Aunt Slow's revenge quests. They all eventually stopped seeking their goals of vengence against Prime because they found happiness and satisfaction with family)
Maybe the episode ends with Rick C-137 bringing Memory Rick out of Jerry's head; but letting Memory Rick be real; and taking Memory Rick into a dimension with a young teen Beth, so Memory Rick can have a Smith family to call his own.
Im case you haven't watched the preview yet:

DIANE SUPREMACY

No but fr we moved off of Diane way too quickly. I want an episode of how Diane dealt with Beth right after Rick left. I can imagine Beth resenting Diane a lot after Rick left and blaming her just because she’s angry, and Diane just lets her because she knows her daughters upset. Idk I just love Diane sm and want more of her 😪🙏
I know not everyone has the same perspective but I'm really happy they decided to change up Diane's role in the show and her personality. I always disliked how they tried to write her off as boring and unimportant with Beth disliking her despite being raised by her being raised by her. It always came off as extremely sexist to me that someone who would normally play an extremely important role in a family unit as a wife, mother, and grandmother, would be shoved to the wayside with everyone just accepting she was dead and not caring about her enough to really ever bring her up. I like that they decided c-137 (as well as other Ricks) really loved her. She was intelligent, confident, and a little nihilistic. Someone who could stand her ground in an argument with him and make him work for her affection. I never understood why Rick would marry someone who couldn't match him and why they would basically say Beth resented her for staying home and raising her. Beth may have wished to have her own adventures she imagined her father was having, but I never liked that she was letting Morty be dragged around on these adventures with Rick because it was "better" than the normal life her mother gave her, especially as an adult with her own family, I think she would understand why her mother wanted her to be safe when most Ricks were causing them to be in danger.
It makes wayyy more sense to me that the reason they don't talk about Diane much was her death was extremely painful, for Beth, and for Rick. Beth is just glad her kids are getting a chance to meet their grandfather, someone she always wished she was closer to and at the same time, feels remorse they will never get to meet their grandmother.
We still don't know much about her other than Rick saying Summer reminds him of Diane, and what we learned in Fear No Mort (which if you ask me was still really vague, but I think that was intentional so we can learn more overtime. For example we don't know if she recognized the arms on Rick's robot because she also worked for the government, or because she happened to see one at random and it intrigued her or some other third reason but I hope to find out eventually!).
Making Diane more complex and fleshing her out as a character only does her and the show more justice. At least in my opinion it does, because simply saying she was dead and it didn't matter was one of the glaring issues I had with the show. There wouldn't be a show without her. Without Diane there is no Beth, no Summer, no Morty, and if we were meant to believe Rick didn't love her why the fuck would he come back to live with his family that only exists because of her.

If Diane was erased around the time of Beth getting pregnant, it would add an extra layer of complexity and tragedy to her choice to keep Summer/stay with Jerry. Diane’s erasure would have left Beth with no parents - possibly no family at all. Staying with Jerry and having Summer would let her start a new family, as well as gain the support of Jerry’s parents.

saw a post on reddit talking about how Beth Smith is an unimportant character on Rick and Morty and that she serves no purpose for the show and as the biggest Beth stan in this fandom, I feel the need to defend her character with 2 points.
First of all I think the most obvious point is that, the whole reason Rick is the way he is now is because he spent countless years of his life scouring the universe to hunt down the version of him that killed his wife and daughter. If it weren't for the death of Diane and BETH, Rick wouldn't be the character that we all know and love too this day.
And my favourite point is that Beth's character, as the wife and mother of the family, doesn't follow the traditional role that is portrayed in other animated shows such as The Simpsons, Family guy and American dad (no shade to those shows btw). Marge, Lois and Francine, as iconic as they all are, all share the same thing in common, that they are stay at home mothers, in a marriage they chose, caring for the children they wanted to have while their husbands go to work and earn the money for the family. Wheras Beth is the breadwinner of the family, securing herself a career as a cardiac equine surgeon, being a hardworking job. She decided to marry a man, who probably wouldn't be her first choice, because he got her pregnant at 17 and she didn't really have anyone else in her life (since her Rick had left at that point). She also struggles with substance abuse such as alcoholism and is in a struggling relationship with a man who is unemployed and a bit useless, all while paying for all 5 members of the family with little to no help. Beth holds the most lore and background to her then any other mother from any animated tv show I've ever seen, she breaks stereotypes of wives staying at home, having a perfect marriage with children who she chose to have, and insteads sheds light on the women whos lives her difficult and who are trying but aren't the perfect wife nor mother.
So yeah, when people ask me why my favourite character is Beth I'm going to direct them to this post.

I didn't love the new episode but something I did love was how the show played into Summer being exactly like Rick
Like Summer's side plot being around her going to extreme lengths over a meal reminds me of another episode...

I’m sobbing

here's what i think:
i think jerry wanted to marry beth the second he saw her. i think when summer was born, and she resembled her father that he cried from happiness. i think he was a girl-dad, i think he got excited to color pictures with her on the kitchen table and took a picture of her each time she lost a tooth
i think beth never wanted to marry, but was hopelessly attracted to the idea of someone wanting her. i think being a mother scared her more than anything, but watching her husband get excited to raise kids gave her hope that someone could want to raise them and give them the life she always wanted
i think while they both were getting their degree in college and raising their first born, they spent a lot of time with different parenting approaches. jerry was very hands on, beth worked behind the scenes. i think they fought, i think they argued about life being different if the car didn't break down on the way to the clinic, i think they hugged in silence and cried on one another shoulder after
i think jerry would choose beth in every lifetime if it meant he could show her each and every time she's capable of giving the love she deserved. i think beth would choose jerry in every lifetime because he's the first person to think she deserved it
that's what i think :)
