As any trace of annoyance at the collision quickly evaporated, Junko straightened up to regard Melissa carefully. She was sorely lacking the emotional strength she needed for a conversation, let alone one with Melissa. God knows she needed a good night’s sleep or two to brace herself for this meeting.
She watched as the girl tugged at her clothes, frantically smoothing the rumples that the collision had caused. Standing before Melissa, Junko found herself once again trying to place where the two of them stood. “Friends” was way too casual, as though feigning ignorance of their shared history. And yet, the thought of calling it anything more struck Junko with a different kind of fear.
“You too,” Junko replied, although the strain in her voice was audible. As much as she wanted to make a quick escape, Junko knew that this was not a conversation she could brush off. “So, um, how are - what’s up?” Junko cursed inwardly as the words left her lips - since when did she ever use “what’s up”??

Melissa has a lot of things to do, specifically along the realms of her own vices she prefers to not speak of, not to the public at least. So there’s quiet moments between these vices that make her wander around, closely in-taking the surroundings around her in an attempt to at least regain some control that the people thought she had. Her chest aches and her head swirls with a interminable fervor that wanted to claim her body whole; but when you’re raised as a politician’’s child, you learn better than to falter in the public eye.
Slow and steady steps where what it took for her to retreat off to anywhere quiet at all, to which many would assume she was far too busy with herself to begin with. Instead, there’d been a headfirst collision that knocked the two girls nearly off their feet, and suddenly, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to run back to the bathroom again. She looked different. A good kind of different, the kind of different that made you wonder how these kinds of transformations were so effortless.
Straightening her shirt out with her fingers clung to the hems, her gaze drops momentarily to fix her hem before she could even bring herself to draw a glance towards Junko again. “Junko. It’s good to see you again.” The words bled formality that could’ve been found in the crevices of propagandic events that bolstered her parent’s social standings or at white dressed parties meant for the wealthy, where old money seethes in every corner. She’s scared, but she’d never let that show.

“I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I live out of the library during exam period,” Junko replied, pulling a face at the thought of having to trek across campus everyday just to study. Although she would benefit from being close to the art building herself, since her studio was situated inside it.
“Precisely,” Junko hissed, “Thank god for you because I’m not sure I can depend on most of my classmates for any solid help with math.” She let out a humourless laugh at Amy’s next comment. “I’d gladly do it because I swear there are more letters than numbers in there!”

unfinished | junko & melissa
As far as possible, Junko liked to keep her Friday nights free. Although the girl was usually bristling with energy and pacing relentlessly across campus, she always seemed to feel the effects of the busy week on Friday night, so much so that the effort it required to socialise was gruelling enough to drive her back into the safety of her room.
So when the last bell of the day went off, Junko was all too quick to bag her textbook and pencil case, whisking out the door before any classmates could start a conversation. It would take her at least eight minutes to reach her dorm, seven if she hurried. While most of the students filtered out towards the left for the main exit, Junko took a right, choosing the route that optimised speed and minimised interaction.
Junko had grown so accustomed to an undisturbed walk back to her room that corners were turned without a second thought. But this time, as she spun purposefully on her heel, she found herself face to face with someone else, a split second away from collision. “Oh my god, watch-,” she exclaimed, throwing out her hands to stop the other girl and feeling her words peter out as she recognised her, “Mel?”

It was a relief to see the other girl enter the library, and Junko noted that Amy was still punctual - a full minute earlier than the time they had decided on. It was a lot more than she could say for way too many appointments of her own. Raising a hand in greeting at Amy, Junko quickly shifted some of her textbooks to create ample space for her friend. “Oh you’re not late at all, I’m just really early today, especially since my dorm is close by,” Junko assured her, peering over at the subjects that Amy had brought for today’s session.
“Perfect, I was just about to say math,” Junko agreed, sifting through her file for the appropriate sheets. “The substitute we had was the absolute worst. Ended up having to spend two hours covering the topic on my own,” she complained, reaching for her textbook.

“And I’m Junko. So, Scout, what’s your talent? God, it sounds cheesy no matter how you ask that question.”
“Spongebob would probably have a heart attack if he saw us eating his friends. But really I’m not interested in consuming a starfish. Maybe squid and definitely lobster and crab.”

“Oh! I never got your name. I’m Scout, by the way.”

study date | junko & amy
Junko couldn’t say she enjoyed studying - after all, how many freaks of nature did? But she was more than aware of it’s necessity, something that her parents had drilled repeatedly into both her sister and herself. Which is why she appreciated it when she found others who shared a similar sense of urgency when it came to grades. Amy was one of those people. They had met at joint arts class, having been smushed together in one of those ridiculous pair discussions that teachers were so fond of. But Junko had immediately taken a liking to the girl’s attitude and regarded her as a prime choice for a study companion.
Spreading her textbooks and files across the space before her on the wooden desk, Junko tapped the capped end of her pen repeatedly against the hard surface. She had high expectations of what they could achieve today, since Amy struck her as one of the more efficient and productive classmates she had. But until the other girl actually arrived, there was no testing out her hypothesis. Patience had never been Junko’s strong suit, and even though she had arrived ten minutes early, Junko could feel the unreasonably side of herself growing antsy at the empty space before her.

“I’ve heard my fair share of horror stories when it comes to spicy food and bowels. I could live on sushi myself, or seafood - which is funny, since we’re on the topic of spongebob and all.”
“Well, hear me out. Maybe like Pearl, you’re a precious gem of the sea!”
Tumblr media
“I love sushi. Actually I love all kinds of foods. Except spicy… That never quite sat well in my stomach. What kind of food do you like?”

“It depends on the kind of successful restaurant you own. It could be a jealous restaurant owner who wants the secret to your best recipe and so he devises a plan to creep out their daughter until they agree to give it up.”

“But based off my calculations… That’s highly unlikely. Only because this isn’t the Krabby Patty.”

I used to watch High School Musical with the excuse that my little sister just insisted, but really I was the one forcing it. And now I don’t have her to lie about.
But I’m not ashamed of the marathon I just had.
