I finished Silverburn!! I remember reading the first Nevermoor book when I was like? 14-16? Now I’m 20 and they’re still very good. I made fan art the first time as well, I guess NM just makes me want to draw ginger men and their definitely-not-angel-exes. (The first drawing’s made like a fake tabloid ofc). Also please Jessica Townsend pleaaaase give Morrigan short hair /j.

I love Jupiter North so much. No relation haha, me having the name Jupiter in Arabic isn’t to do with him, but what a nice thing.

ok so when squall says “there is black ice at the heart of you” I don’t think he means that she’s inherently evil. Black ice is clear and thus makes it tricky to see on roads. I think he is saying that Morrigan has a bravery and willfulness about her that most will not see at first and thus underestimate her. She’s not ms nice person either which I love unlike a lot of middle grade protagonist. A lot of what squall says about her is true and yes she does have potential I believe to have chosen the “evil” side because of everything that has happened to her in her life but she doesn’t. I don’t know what squall is planning but I don’t even think he wants an “evil” heir, but a willful, stubborn, powerful, emotional, one of a kind girl that is Morrigan. Ok that’s enough of that lol

I wonder why umbrellas are such a big thing in Nevermoor (both the book and the place)

Symbolically;

We see it represent the start of something new, eg:

- Morrigan's umbrella - the first gift she had ever gotten, marking the start of her new life in Nevermoor

- The Morningtide party where the guests jumped off of the Deucalion and floated down to the ground with their umbrellas to show that they were "stepping boldly" into the new Age

Literally:

We see umbrellas as Morrigan's tether to Nevermoor:

- Every time she takes the Gossamer Line, Morrigan leaves the umbrella behind and uses it as a tether to bring her back to Nevermoor

Finally, we see it used as a key:

- The hall of shadows (was that what it's called?) was opened by her umbrella

- In every book, we see people use the Brolly Rail, a mode of public transport that you use by attaching your umbrella to the platform and whizzing around Nevermoor until you reach your destination.

I feel like there's got to be some big piece of lore on the importance of umbrellas in Nevermoor - maybe it's a Wunderous Act?

I also feel like we're going to see more of umbrellas as keys, and umbrellas as a tether in more symbolic ways in future books.

I really like Ezra Squall as a character a lot, but a large part of that liking is the desire to see him get punched in the face at least once. Like it is not a want it is a need

archan tate is such an A+ character because like yeah here is a Very Nice Boy. sweetest guy around, he's a great friend, he does really well in school. he plays violin. and he's a master thief. he will leave an apology note when he robs you! but he canonically Loves To Steal.
