I know its an old joke but it really does crack me up to think Frodo might not know Legolas's name, especially in the most obvious scene at Frodo's bed after waking up and he addresses literally everyone by name except Legolas, like come on you're telling me you couldn't have gotten Elijah to do another take so he could say that beautiful Elf's name lmao

this is an absolutely horrible post that makes no sense but last night i told my roommate that trying to take the lord of the rings, the silmarillion, and the hobbit and explain the tonal and narrative difference and what it all means as a series is like if you only had three sources about what happens in england (a made up place, as we all know) and they were geoffrey of monmouth’s ‘the history of the kings of britain’, modern doctor who, and a singular episode of peppa pig. and you’re out here trying to force these to be part of a cohesive narrative

would you be able to at least make a sketch of Celeborn and Galathil? The two are brothers in the Silmarilion and there is only a handful of art that have both brothers.

The Three Hunters ©️ Ruth Brown 2025

I “redesigned” the trio after rereading and rewatching the trilogy and was inspired to mesh a bit of their movie forms, book descriptions, and my own flair on their designs. I think it turned out pretty fun!

I love when Legolas adds some leather pauldrons to his fit at the battle of Helm’s Deep so I incorporated that silhouette into this new design, while leaning a bit more into a woodsy “fey” idea.

Aragorn is largely similar to the movies but physically resembles how I imagined his book descriptions, a tall, dark, and strong man akin to how most Gondorians are described, especially Boromir.

I wanted to embellish Gimli a bit more to call back to his origins from the Lonely Mountain after its reclamation and the abundance of wealth that would have been dispersed through the Hobbit’s company of dwarves and their families. I love his weapons in the movies though so the sort of cut out style is only a bit altered (and more poorly executed) in my design.
