A dizzying moment

First piece of writing in moonths. Couldn’t stop thinking about this sweet, angsty couple. Missing moment DH.

Ron woke up with a start. The late evening sunlight struggled to make its way into Grimmauld Place. He glanced around the room- one of many grotesquely lavish sitting rooms that sat suspended somewhere between dust and time. The table Ron had fallen asleep on was littered with Ministry of Magic’s convoluted. floor plans. He could see Hermione’s neat but frantic handwriting all over the sheets. They had been working for what felt like hours silently, rifling through papers, searching for a safe way in. Hermione– where was she? He felt his heartbeat quicken as he jumped on his feet. He was about to call out her name when his eyes fell on a note scribbled at the end of one of the Ministry maps.

“In the kitchen. Didn’t want to wake you up.”

Sighing out loud, Ron rubbed away the last of his sleep from his eyes as he went to look for her. The sense of danger, of despair, of sheer isolation, had heightened ever since the war had started. Since their arrival at Grimmauld Place, Ron had become accustomed to walking past Sirius’ childhood room several times a day to make sure Harry was in there, alive. He eyes constantly sought out Hermione’s silhouette as she spent the days working and re-working the Ministry plans and nights falling asleep absentmindedly on his shoulders.

Fear for his family had wrecked him their first night at Grimmauld. He found himself shaking when Hermione’s hands reached out to find his. She didn’t let go the entire night.

But apart from the occasional brushing of hands and gazes that lingered a little too long, there had been nothing. There couldn’t possibly be anything given the giant steaming pile of shit that they were dealing with. Not right now.

Ron kicked the nearest kitchen chair as he made his way towards Hermione. She was trying to peel what felt like a mountain of potatoes with a lone rusty peeler.

“A peeler? Are you a witch or not, Hermione?” Ron attempted a feeble joke.

“I didn’t want to use magic. Kreacher is out. So I thought I’d start dinner… I just want to do…something”

She didn’t look back at him but Ron could hear the frustration dripping from every syllable of her voice. He walked until he was right behind her, his lanky frame towering over her. He found himself enveloped in oranges, cinnamon, and an irresistible musky scent he could only attribute to Hermione. The scent that hit him like a ton of bricks the first time he entered Slughorn’s class. Amortentia and Hermione: one and the same. He leaned over her shoulder pulling back her curls revealing the nape of her neck. Hermione froze, seemingly unable to continue the task she had determinedly started half-hour ago.

Hermione drew a sharp breath. “Ron…what are you doing?”

Ignoring the edge in her voice, and his rapidly quickening heartbeat, he snaked his arms around her waist, his hands taking the peeler from her trembling fingers.

“I used to peel vegetables without magic all the time for my mum. I’m- demonstrating”

He swore he heard her chuckle faintly

“Here, just pull down firmly. Like this”

His breath was hot on her ear, and he watched with grim satisfaction as a dozen goosebumps erupted on her skin.

What if they let their guard down at this moment? What if he pressed his lips against the hollow in her neck? What if instead of grazing her body accidentally-on-purpose, he turned her around towards him, his hands winding tightly around her waist. What if he kissed her like he did in the depths of his dreams, like he has wanted to since they were fifteen, tugging her lower lip between his teeth before sliding his tongue to meet hers. What if they stop being at war against their desire and give in? Would she respond? Would she call out his name?

“Ron…stop. We can’t–stop”

Ron came out of his reverie. Hermione had disentangled herself from him, her eyes specked with tears.

“What?–yeah, yeah I know” Ron automatically took a step back.

Positions taken, boundaries resumed. Stalemate. As always.

Hermione gave him a watery smile before grabbing her wand and pointing at the potatoes which immediately peeled themselves.

“Stupid, fu-fucking potatoes” she croaked.

He laughed in spite of himself. She walked over to him until they were inches apart, resting her head lightly on his chest. He tilted her face towards him, taking her in for as long as he dared, her bright brown eyes looking into his.

He placed his lips on her forehead lightly before grinning down at her–

“Stupid ‘fucking’ potatoes? I’m never letting you forget that”

random things i like about ron that were at least mentioned once in the books,

-ron hair smells good, at least hermione loves it

-ron makes tea when someone is upset

-his breathing when sleeping is calm and rhythmic (harry said he was able to sleep bc of it lol. i think in ootp but not sure)

-he called out a portrait (i think) saying he had freckles and not some other thing. he’s so cute i wanna cry

-HES SO TALL AND LANKY AND HAS BLUE EYES AND BRIGHT HAIR AND FAIR EYELASHES. I HAVE A CRUSH ON HIM (adult-ron, pls, don’t misunderstand me)

-ron’s pyjamas are always a tiny bit too short on him

-ron threw a crocodile heart at draco

-ron punched draco in the battle of hogwarts (that being draco’s last appearance until the epilogue)

-ron looking at hermione in hbp even if they were mad. and wanting to talk to her after christmas (and other few times) with no luck :(

-ron spying on hermione and asking people from other houses about her to find out what she was up to during 3rd year when they weren’t speaking to each other

-ron said that bill always understood him and i love that bc considering his relationship with his other siblings this warms my heart

-ron literally seeing the bright side of things and being always happy for his friends, encouraging them.

i weep anytime i think about how ron was the first person harry found that loved him (aside obviously his parents but he doesn’t remember. i’m strictly talking about what he remembers) and he found love for the first time in him. years back when i went to the hp london studios i was the only one crying when i saw tiny ron and harry at the train. they’re everything to me bye.

hear me out. i need people to be freaky in this fandom, to draw whatever. to write whatever comes to your mind, as long as it is on character. (sorry i’ve read really, to be fair also very old, tasteless, sexist romione fanfics that were just not it in many levels) edit more, more headcanons, share more quotes of the books, bc romione has the best canon content i’ve seen, put the characters in different situations ANY situation. romiones pls rise!!! lmao. i want romiones to take on the hp fandom. and just make the best art out there lol.

i read a few where ron straight up calls her a bitch (he’ll never) beats her (he’ll never) and not like spanking, like whatever fetish someone might have, no, straight up beating where it was described that she was in pain. insane! this isn’t dr*mione lmao (sorry not sorry). or basically uses her as a sexual object, (explicitly described as such in said fanfics).

i am completely okay with fanfics where they are a bit more “rough” if that’s what you’re into. like 100% fine. But i promise you i’ve read fanfics where ron was a just straight up abusive like idk who wrote that but ron is NOT like that. haven’t read that in newer fanfiction, always like 2008-2012 ones. i clarify (not even close to all of them, just saying that i’ve read a few like that)

and i wasn’t like, getting to a conclusion when i read them and personally thought they were sexist or whatever like, the fics explicitly clarified undoubtedly abusive behaviour and they were romione fics, not ron bashing ones (as i know they are out there).

like, ron, book!ron, canon ron would never beat hermione up to the point of her being IN PAIN while using her for his own pleasure. like, wtf SO out of character and straight up sexist.

ron, who puts everyone before himself, cares so much, loves so much specially hermione. asked to be taken by bellatrix instead of her. would beat hermione and cause her actual pain, and use her as a sexual object for his own “pleasure”? nah.
