Animation Day 16
Here's the finished recreation of Silence of the Lambs. I found this project to be quite fun and I feel it's improved my ability to work as a team with others
Some of the difficulties we had through filming tended to be shots that appeared for split seconds such as the mannequin shot we took under a desk and the elavator scene but they turned out well in the end. The ambulance was probably the most difficult yet most fun to do and I love the idea of the mini puppets.
Thanks to all our extras below who helped us out with our film :)

Animation Remaining Weeks
Filming
Day 14: We had Adam, Aodhan and Emily as extras to recreate the elavator scene and used two office chairs and a bedsheet for our gurney.
youtube
For this scene we made an old polaroid camera out of a camera obscura, cinefoil, tinfoil and a piece of plastic
youtube
Day 15: We made little puppet of us to use for the ambulance scene stuck onto lollipop sticks and decided to create a rig for them so it would be easier to hold without having to get more hands as that would crowd the ambulance.
youtube
Kyle M created these newspapers and some polaroids for our final shots

Day 11: We began with shooting scenes of Kyle as Hannibal Lecter as we had to make do with who and what was available at the time which turned out well as we ended up getting all the shots we could of Hanniabal done.
youtube
Day 12: We shot scenes of me as an interviewer and we ended up forgetting about a scene which we would have to film later I used hair gel to slick back my hair but for the scene we forgot we just decided to leave out the gel. Being on camera is was pretty weird as it's out of my comfort zone but I feel it's something I can work on. Also done some scenes with Taylor as Clarice

Day 13: Some scenes of of the mannequin and with extras were done today

Silence of the Lambs Trailer Remake
Today the secret project was revealed to be another team project in which we had to remake a trailer from a film given to us. Our group which consists of @k00280409, @k00282802, @k00286367 and @k00286411 we're given Silence of the Lambs which at first I was unsure if it was doable but we decided to stick with it

Animation Day 7 (Part 2)
Trip to Fota Wildlife Park
More videos and some sketches I took. I found it difficult to sketch from a distance as it was hard to make out the details, drawing quickly is something I also need to work on.

Animation Day 7 (Part 1)
Trip to Fota Wildlife Park
In advance we watched a couple videos from the animator Aaron Blaise to help us with our sketches during the day, focusing on how the animals move and sounds they make along with the importance of drawing from life. More videos and sketches to follow

Animation Day 6
Pixilation Challenge
Today we began filming our own pixelation. We were divided in groups with my group being @k00284723, @k00283394, @k00282432, @k00282421 and a TY student who had joined us for the day. Later we began editing it into our own different takes which gave me this

Pixilation animation
Pixilation animation is a stop motion technique which uses live actors and shooting it frame by frame while slightly moving it after every shot so when you play it back it creates the illusion of movement. As they use real objects they have to be creative in what they use to convey their story. An example of this is Western Spaghetti by PES
youtube
Pixilation has a lot more freedom than live shooting as it isn't as limited to physics. I really like this animation as their unusual use of materials creates interesting visuals you wouldn't see in live action film.

Animation Day 5
Introduction to Pixiliation
We were shown 2 videos to watch in advance of our next project called the pixilation challenge which would be team based. Pixilation is like stop motion but with humans as you're puppets

These helped give us an idea for what's possible with this style of animation

Animation Day 4
Digital Mini-Me "Where am I?"
After the workshop with Paul I imported all the mouth pieces I took photos of earlier and used the blank shot of my puppet without a mouth to create a digital version of my mini-me photoshoot in photoshop

Physical Mini-Me Build "Where am I?"
This is the finished piece of all the shots with the mouth pieces attached which I'll lipsync later. I decided to change up some of the mouth pieces and repeated some to make the animation more fluid

Animation Day 2
MiniMe Build
During todays class we began working on constructing our MiniMe builds out of whichever material we wanted. I decided to go oil based clay for the face as it would be easier to model for me along with a glove which I'd use for clothing.

To save on time and resources I only made half of the head which is being supported by a foam ball but this created issues with balance so I had to put more foam in the body and skewer it to the head which helped. Here are the mouth pieces I made to go with my phrase "Where am I?"

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare before Christmas is a stop-motion animated film released in 1993 and is directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton.
The film had a crew of over 120 workers along with 20 sound stages for filming and there was a total of 109,440 frames taken for the film. Around 200 puppets were made, with Jack having approximately 400 different heads to be ready for any facial expression needed.

Sally's mouth movements were animated with replacement animation by using face plates to preserve her hair.

Animation Day 1
Replacement Animation, Phonemes/Visemes and MiniMe
In our first class we went over our timetable over the week. We were introduced to replacement animation, which is the technique where multiple parts of puppets were made to be swapped for example the mouth, to convey a different emotion without having to make a new puppet.
Phonemes and Visemes are both the unit of sound that distinguish one word from the other and the shape the mouth makes while making the sound.
We were then tasked to create a MiniMe out of a material of our choice tomorrow and so we had to each come up with a sentence which we'd animate our MiniMe to lipsync with mine being "Where am I?"

Artist Statement
My project is exploring the movement of cars. Unlike last semester I felt more organized about what directions to take my project in throughout the semester and I'm overall happy with the theme we were given and the results of my work. I didn't have much knowledge on cars before and so basing the semester on it might have been risky but it turned out well in the end.
I started off with animation just so I could have some material while going into my next electives the following weeks and then week 2 I went into photography to capture the physical movement of cars with cameras. bringing that into week
Week 3 I went into graphic design to create icons which would be based on an animation I was planning on working on and messed around with type as I was hoping to create a poster but lacked the time.
In week 4 I started building up more material in photography that I could later use in graphic design. Week 5 I made a zine using works from previous workshops and then recreated an album cover based on it. Finally in week 6 I created an animation based both on my short story and my icons
I feel I managed to balance all the electives well and to blend them into one another which helped me to create more works
