i was walking across the peaceful streets, its currently 11:23 in the morning, and barely anyone was visible on the streets. i was walking to a new cafe down the neighbourhood, it had opened only for a month or so, but i really love their food and environment so it has already become my favourite place, thus it’s never crowded, perfect for working on projects, when i feel unmotivated to work in my own room.

as i walk pass a clothing store i notice a new place, it used to be an empty store place, i peeked in and tried to figure out what this newly rented place is up to. the outside just looks aesthetic and doesn’t really tell me anything so i just entered. and then the aroma of flora fills my nostrils, beautiful lavenders and camellias, and plants i cant name were planted by the entrance. i look around the place, seeing walls hung with paintings and all sorts of art.

i would’ve expected somebody, perhaps the owner of this what seems to be an atelier, would greet me, but no one did. i could’ve just left, but i had time and there were no signs telling people to leave or whatever, so i figured to admire the art a little bit more, as much as i’m not an artsy person.

most of the paintings are of either places or objects, mostly flowers, and there were these little poetic lines written on a piece of paper stuck underneath each painting on the wall. with some simple math i notice twelve paintings of flowers, perhaps, just maybe, each painting is dedicated to a month of a year. i held back the urge to touch the paintings, the uneven texture of the paint is really tempting. there were also paintings of places, not too detailed but enough to show roughly what it is about, like a street or a building.

i’ve found art beautiful since forever, but i never seem to be able to creat art, perhaps due to my obsession with everything being in their right spot. art on the other hand is flawed, and their imperfections are what make them beautiful, what makes them so lovable and admirable.

i left the atelier after approximately five minutes or something then i resumed back to getting my coffee/tea, enjoying my breakfast and getting to work.

Ten thirty on a weekday, and Sabrina’s is quiet.

As it should be, you suppose.

The tourists have called their excursions a night, the students are winding down for yet more of the same tomorrow. Save for a few tables at the rear of the café host to a couple and an elderly local, there’s nobody around.

The look that Sabrina herself gives as you enter is one of equal parts confusion and awe; confusion on your presence—you’re never here past nine—and awe on your company. You can hardly blame her; it’s not every day one crosses paths with someone like Hyunjin. Not every lifetime.

“Well, hello there you two,” she drawls warmly from behind the counter she’s polishing. “Come on in, makes yourselves right at home.”

“Thanks Sab,” you smile, hoping the lingering side-eye you give her warns of best behaviour.

You head for the usual window booth and slide in, silently noting—with some amusement—how hyped Jisung’s going to be when you tell him who sat in his seat the last time you were here.

Hyunjin settles in comfortably, looks around the café in bemusement. He’s probably unimpressed by the eccentrically worn interior, but if he wanted something fancier, he shouldn’t have left it to you.

You grab a stiff, plastic-bound menu from the stand, slide it over the table towards him.

“You’re not having anything?” he asks as he picks it up, turns it over.

“I’m not hungry,” you shrug.

Hyunjin frowns, tuts under his breath, “But you didn’t eat dinner.”

“… How did you­—”

“What can I get you kids?” Sabrina suddenly trills, thumping down two glasses of cloudy, ice-cold lemonade.

“We’ll take two grilled cheeses’, please,” Hyunjin answers at once. “And some coffee, if that’s okay? Black?”

Sabrina hums in understanding, flashes you a wink and toddles away, already calling out the order to the kitchen. You grab the glass of lemonade just for something to do with your hands, enjoying the cool against your clammy skin; seem to have been running a permanent fever since meeting Hyunjin.

“So,” Hyunjin sighs, leaning back in the booth seat. “Saint Brides University, huh?”

You nod awkwardly, at total unrest with the attention. Honestly figured that he’d just want a little slice of revenge after your peeping session and the two of you would part ways after whatever humiliation he deigned to unleash, never to speak again. This certainly doesn’t feel like a vengeful excursion.

“What are you studying?” he asks.

“N— Nothing special. It’s boring, really. I— I mean, it’s not boring, of course, I don’t think it is, but you probably would—”

“Try me.”

“Action!”

You stare at your leading man across the ballroom, only to be met with eyes that have been looking at you since before the scene even started. Despite having looked into those pair of eyes ever since filming started, you couldn’t understand why it felt different now. It’s been months since you two first met, and months since he first began looking at you, but you felt your heart rate increasing every second he spent looking at you.

You couldn’t focus on anything but him. Even though there were dozens of extras that were moving across the room, you couldn’t see anything but Choi Yeonjun. And with every second that you two spent, locked into each other’s eyes, the tension grew thicker. You couldn’t quite understand the way he was looking at you. His gaze seemed to linger on yours the more you two spent time together. It was exactly the way his character should’ve been looking at you, and yet, it looked so real that you wondered whether or not he might’ve felt the same way.

It felt as if the world had stopped for the two of you. In that moment, which you were sure lasted no longer than a minute, the shared eye contact made it last forever. His gaze was intense, staring at you with something in his eyes that you couldn’t quite understand, and yet, you were willing to completely dive into.

Yeonjun finally moved forward, taking slow steps towards you. With every step, your heartbeat grew louder in sound until you could barely breathe. You felt that you were getting consumed by his never-ending stare, and you felt a new kind of nervousness seting in that you hadn’t experienced around anyone before, and certainly not your co-star.

“You look lovely this evening,” Yeonjun says.

You almost forgot this was just a scene. You tried to ease your nerves, quickly getting into character. After all, there was nothing to feel anxious about when everything was fake.

“Thank you,” you reply, the confidence in your character’s voice being emitted. “I’m sorry, I don’t believe we’ve met before.”

The point of the scene was to meet Yeonjun’s character at a masquerade ball while not knowing his identity. It was a classic trope in any good enemies to lovers, spy and assassin film. You didn’t quite understand how it could fool your character, who was known for her intellect, though. After all, anyone could tell it was Choi Yeonjun just from the way he presented himself. The confidence, the smile, the eyes: everything screamed Yeonjun to you. But to be fair, it seemed as though most things began reminding you of him recently.

“I don’t know, have we?” Yeonjun says, giving you a smirk. He gently bows, offering you his hand. “Would you like to dance with me to find out?”

“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt,” you say as you take his hand, feeling your heart flutter in a way you were sure your character was supposed to feel.

Yeonjun gently pulls you onto the dance floor, his other hand gently wrapping itself around your waist. He smiles down at you, swaying the two of you to the rhythm of the song. He gently removes his hand from your torso to spin you around, your dress twirling along with you. Out of the corner of your eye, you see the camera panning back to capture the two of you dancing.

When you’re back in his arms, Yeonjun gently leans down to whisper, “You really do look beautiful in that dress, Y/n. I can’t take my eyes off of you.”

You feel yourself tense up from his words. It was in these moments that you felt yourself break character. Although you tried not to let it show on your face, your heart was pounding against your chest. You’ve heard him compliment you before, always making sure to acknowledge your acting skills and tell you when he liked your outfit, but at that moment, with his face so close to yours and speaking in a way that no one else will ever hear, it left you feeling a way you’ve never felt before.

Distracted by your thoughts, you don’t even hear the song end. Yeonjun pulls you two off of the dance floor, his hand still around your waist on which he gently taps his pointer finger in order to pull you back to reality. You could practically see how he’d tease you for getting distracted later. He peers down at you, his smirk never leaving his face.

“As much as I loved dancing with you,” he says as he looks down at his watch and then back up at you, “I’m afraid it’s time for me to take my leave.”

“Now?” you ask. “Could you at least tell me your name before you leave?”

“But you already know it, sweetheart,” Yeonjun says as he takes off his mask.

You change your face to a shocked one, showing your character’s utter disbelief on your face. “You? You’re telling me I danced with you?” you scoff in disbelief.

“The one and only,” he says, face clearly showing his amusement. He leans down, your hand still in his, and kisses it gently. “Don’t miss me too much.”

You watch as Yeonjun gives you his trademark smirk as you feel your face get hotter at the sudden improvisation. You knew that he wasn’t told to kiss your hand nor hold onto you for so long, and despite knowing many actors do the same thing, the feeling of his lips on your bare hand made your knees weak in a way you wouldn’t ever like to admit. It wasn’t like you to be so distracted by a simple gesture, and yet, you always seemed to crumble whenever it came to Choi Yeonjun.

You watch Yeonjun leave the frame and exit the scene. His back now facing you and his gaze focused on the phone is his hand, you wondered if he’d ever look at you so intensely again. The sight of his eyes looking at you like you were the only thing in the world was an image you were worried would be burned into your mind. Furthermore, you wondered if the way his character looked at yours held any truth to the way Yeonjun felt about you. But as you watch him walk farther away from the set, you felt a sense of hopelessness set into your heart. After all, you two were just acting in the end.

“Cut!”

part two summary: yeonjun invites you and your friends to a pool party the fraternity is throwing. when you and the gang go shopping for new swim suits, taehyun apologizes for the weekend before. what happened when yeonjun went after you is finally shown and the night goes somewhere completely unexpected. so does the morning after.
