        HE COULD TASTE THE TANG OF DISAPPOINTMENT IN THE AIR.      after the last few years,    such a thing would’ve brought fear into his heart faster than a lightning strike if it had been any other person,    any other time,    but now,    in this instance,    it only serves to ram into his gut like a raging mudhorn.      knowing that it’s his brother that the disappointment is coming from makes it worse than anything else he’s faced before.      if it weren’t for the fact that all he could think about was protecting Cal from the monster,    Caden would have caved under his brother’s hand faster than he did in the chair all those years ago.      his threat wasn’t so much as what Caden would do to him,    but what he would do to his brother.      Caden had been playing with fire since reuniting with his brother,    he knew it was selfish of him to risk the other like this but he’d missed him.      time was running out now.      gloved hands clenched at his sides,    trembling slightly against the armor situated on his thighs,    the inquisitor’s back remaining turned to the other.      eyes squeeze shut as he tried to find his resolve again and keep it.      this wasn’t about him,    it was about Cal.        ❝      this isn’t my place,    i don’t belong here.      it would be better for you to accept that,    and move on.      ❞

i keep thinking about “what if Cal decided to go back to the idea of training the next generation of Jedi” like,  what if during the Empire era he came across a Force sensitive child or two and something happened where they ended up on the Empire’s radar / alone / in trouble in general and Cal just “uh welcome aboard”,  or into the New Republic era when things were safer he decided to look / found Luke or other Force sensitives,  or the good ol “what if Cal answered Grogu’s call too / instead”. i just think Cal as a teacher would be neat and he would really like it
