Hatake Kakashi vs Uchiha Sasuke

Lots of people blame him but do you think there is any way Kakashi could have stopped Sas from leaving? I think not. After the cursed mark, he neglected everything to focus on Sas only. His approach wasn't the best, but the best he could do with his own issues + without having Sas kept by force which would never work in the long run. Would have loved to see a peek into Kakashi's mind after that - we have no idea what he was up to or feeling during the time gap to Shippuden! Missed opportunity.

I think that kishi needed Sasuke to leave Konoha for the plot, so it would have been impossible for anyone to stop him.

It’s not a mystery that I love the bond between Kakashi and Sasuke and I regret it was overlooked the more the story went on. Now, I can almost feel the woke fans yelling at me that he was a bad teacher...yes and no. I hate that he supported Shikamaru’s revenge and he didn’t Sasuke’s, I hate it very much, being Sasuke’s supporter.

But even though I disagree with Kakashi I analyse his personality and motives and it kinda makes sense. Since his father committed suicide he stuck to rules, he clung to the village, he hid his own trauma and loneliness. He lost his comrades and sensei, he functions only because he kinda stopped thinking and hid in blind obedience to the village and escapism in his books. His balance isn’t exactly a stable one, although it works for him.

He did try to help Sasuke in a way a sensei does, but I think his personality didn’t allow him to go further. He didn’t know how to approach and support him emotionally, because he is a shinobi, he was an Anbu. He’s not, say, Iruka (who kinda tried with Nar). So he tried to put Sasuke in the path he deemed right, that is, the path that he followed, not considering that Sasuke might need something else. You’re right, he had his own issues which he solved like I said, through blind following the village rules and escapism, and even though he totally dedicated himself to Sas after the curse mark, he didn’t help much emotionally, because imo he was not able to do that, like most former Anbu and shinobi tbh, as they’re only required to endure, and that’s what he basically told Sasuke to do.

You’re also right that it would have been very interesting to know what he had in mind after Sasuke left...when in Shippuuden he faces him, thinking that the Third probably felt the same when he faced Orochimaru, it’s deep because it shows that for him Sasuke was a precious person like Orochimaru had been for the Third. But on the other hand it’s a bit disappointing because, from an out of universe point of view, he was turned into one of the biggest Nar supporters, totally forgetting the strong bond he had had with Sasuke (which is really bad in the narration, because kishi could have made kakashi support Nar even without forgetting Sas), and from an in-universe perspective it’s like Kakashi deleted his own personality and feelings, hiding in those of a figure of authority he respected, which is fitting if you think about it, for someone who coped with trauma and lived his life the way he did.
