Ex-cricketer Gautam Gambhir joins BJP today..
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday with weeks to go for the Lok Sabha elections.
The cricketer is likely to contest elections from one of the seven Delhi Lok Sabha seats.
With his reach of nearly nine million followers, the 37-year-old cricketer has been frequently commenting on social and security issues leading to speculation that he was planning to join politics.
He had, however, dismissed all speculation saying: “I have got a young family and I need to think about them as well because I have hardly spent any time with them. I do not want to miss their early days and let us see where I go from here.”
The former opening batsman was conferred with India’s fourth highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri award, earlier this year and received a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A resident of Rajendra Nagar in Delhi, Gambhir made his one-day international debut for the Indian national team in April 2003 against Bangladesh and went on to play 147 ODIs for the side.
His performances in the finals of the 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan and the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka helped India win both the titles. And Gambhir, in the process, went on to acquire something of a cult status among Indian fans.
He also earned 58 Test caps and scored nine hundreds and 22 fifties in the longest format of the game. Gambhir’s last appearance in an Indian shirt came in 2016 but he continued plying his trade in domestic cricket. The 37-year-old announced his retirement from all forms of cricket following Delhi’s Ranji Trophy clash against Andhra last December.

Lok Sabha elections 2019: LK Advani opted out of Lok Sabha race, sounded out BJP about retirement
A decision to field Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah from Gandhinagar in Gujarat was taken after veteran Lal Krishna Advani, 91, told the party leadership he was unwilling to contest the April-May parliamentary election, a person familiar with the issue said.
“Advani told the party three-four days back that he will not contest,” added this person who is close to the BJP leader and who did not wish to be identified.
“Once he communicated that decision to the party, it was up to them to decide who it wanted to field.”
The BJP released its first list of 184 candidates for the Lok Sabha election on Thursday, and dropped many leaders over the age of 75 from the list.
Garhwal MP BC Khanduri (84), Nainital MP Bhagat Singh Koshyari (76) and Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakravarty (79) were prominent omissions in the BJP list. Advani is 91.
“His decision to not contest the Lok Sabha election means he is retiring,” the person cited in the first instance said, adding that there has been no talk yet of sending Advani to the Rajya Sabha.
Advani’s decision to not contest the election marks the end of an illustrious chapter in the history of India’s ruling party, which grew in size phenomenally after Advani took out the rath yatra in 1990s, mustering support to build a Ram Temple at Ayodhya.
Advani was elected to the Rajya Sabha for four terms and to the Lok Sabha on seven occasions. He was country’s deputy prime minister, held key portfolios such as Home Ministry and headed the BJP several times.
Advani was BJP’s first ‘hindu hriday samrat’, and his hardline stance won him followers across the country, helped firm up his grip over the BJP, and won him many admirers in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh – the BJP’s ideological mentor.
In sharp contrast to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Advani was a man of the organization who handpicked and patronized several BJP leaders for key roles.
Many second-generation leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi were considered his protégé. It is widely believed that it was Advani’s backing that saved Modi’s job as Gujarat chief minister after the Gujarat riots in 2002.
Advani and another veteran Murli Manohar Joshi were given an advisory role in BJP’s margdarshak mandal after party stormed to power in 2014. They missed ministerial berth after the party decided that no leader above the age of 75 would be made minister.

Kesari box office collection Day 1: Akshay Kumar film opens with Dhamal.
Akshay Kumar seems to have a Midas touch. After delivering back-to-back hits in 2018 - R Balki's Pad Man, Reema Kagti's Gold and Shankar's 2.0 - he opened 2019 with a bang as well.
Kesari, Akshay's first release this year, has earned around Rs 25 crore on its first day, according to early estimates. The historical drama has not only managed to bowl the critics over but is also drawing the audience to the theatres in large numbers.
Kesari witnessed a bumper opening in all 4,200 screens across the world. It is running to packed theatres in 3,600 screens across the country.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari features Akshay as Havildar Ishar Singh, who led the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army in the Battle Of Saragarhi, which was fought in 1897. The film tells the incredible story of 21 Sikh soldiers fighting valiantly against 10,000 Afghan troops. Parineeti Chopra has a guest appearance, as Havildar Ishar Singh's wife.

6-Minute Breakfast:
I wouldn't go so far as to say that my single egg makes me feel especially surer of myself. But that scene, both in the book and in the film, showcases how satisfying it can be to eat just one perfectly soft-boiled egg. Whether you're having it on its own or with Magic Spice, toast, and orange juice, it only takes an egg to start the day feeling in control and filled with purpose.
I'm not a breakfast person, but what this micro-meal has taught me is that, if I can make a habit out of putting on the coffee first thing in the morning, along with the water, toasting a slice of good sourdough from my local bakery, and boiling a single egg—then it forces me to pause, if only for one brief moment, while I sit to eat. What better time to have that feeling of calm than at the start of my day?
This, in turn, makes me appreciate the morning more (which is helpful for someone who is 100-percent not a morning person). What this means, as well, is that I can go to work feeling less harried than those dark days when I used to stumble out of bed and crash into the office like a storm. Instead, I walk. I feel cool, calm, and collected by the time I make it to my desk, mind and body ready to go until lunch.
Is it celery juice blended with Kardashian-branded protein powder? No—but I’d say it’s just as fortifying.
Martha Stewart drinks celery juice. Khloé Kardashian eats oatmeal with a protein shake. I...have a 6-minute egg with toast, orange juice, and coffee.
When it comes to breakfast, we all have our go-tos. It is, for me, the one meal of the day when I feel zero remorse whatsoever for repeating myself, rarely straying to other sources of protein, carbohydrate, or fructose. Because when something works, it works.
On the weekends, maybe, I'll cook bacon or have a brekkie quesadilla from leftovers. But even in those moments, I'll always have my egg first, boiled straight from the fridge in a tiny pot of water for six minutes, then propped up in its cup on a small plate dusted with Magic Spice™, my signature concoction of secrets and herbs: brown sugar, salt, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and celery seed.
Here's how to make perfect soft-boiled eggs:
First, bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. (I use this stainless-steel butter warmer. Because it's so small, it comes to a boil almost as fast as my electric water kettle, which I use for coffee.)
Then, with a spoon, carefully lower in one large organic egg. (I eat so many eggs a week, so they're the one thing I buy organic.)
Put the timer on for 6 minutes exactly, lowering the heat to about medium-low so the water simmers gently. (Mostly I do this so the egg won't crack.)
At the 6-minute mark, run the egg under cold tap water to halt the cooking process before placing it into its little cup. (If you don't have an egg cup, then get one immediately because they're totally cute! A shot glass works, too.)
The eating of this egg is mostly ritualistic: I take a sharp knife and chop off its top, scooping up the bit of white that's there. I sprinkle the spice mixture over the beheaded egg and dive my spoon into the yolk, which, if I've cooked it correctly, gushes out. Every time I do it, I feel a great sense of satisfaction at how dramatically the yellow dribbles out over the sides and onto my plate. I use the toast to sop up this spillage, and dig my spoon into and around the shell to get the rest of the white.
Even when I think I want a second egg, I'm reminded of that first breakfast scene in 2018's Call Me by Your Name, where Armie Hammer's character eats a soft-boiled egg with such luscious fervour, he makes it look like the most delicious thing in the world. When his host family offers him another, he refuses. "No, no, no. I know myself too well," Oliver chuckles, pouring himself a glass of apricot juice. "If I have a second, I'm just gonna have a third and then a fourth, and then you're just gonna have to roll me out of here."
In André Aciman's novel, from which the Academy Award–winning film is based, the protagonist Elio (played by Timothée Chalamet) narrates, "I had never heard someone his age say, I know myself. It intimidated me."
Magic Spice Blend
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons kosher salt
3 tablespoons smoked paprika (you can use regular sweet paprika if you don't like the taste of smoked)
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon freshly cracked black pepper
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon celery seed, crushed in the palm of your hand.

The Karnataka Transport Department has revoked the licence of Ola Cabs for the next six months. The action against Ola came after it was found in violation of guidelines for cab aggregators. The ride hailing service was allegedly operating two-wheeler taxis without permission which led to the state-wide ban.
"Based on the report given by senior officials in the Regional Transport Office, the licence given to M/S Ani Technologies Pvt Ltd, Ola Cabs to operate taxis till June 19, 2021 has been suspended under The Karnataka on Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016," an order from the Karnataka Transport Department said.
The Karnataka Transport Department had handed a show cause notice to Ola Cabs' motorcycle taxi service. While the company had reportedly submitted a response to this notice, the transport department had found it unsatisfying.
Declaring its order, the Karnataka Transport Department had asked Ola Cabs to hand over all the permission licences within three days of its order.
While the older licences were not revoked, the authority had said that new licences will not be issued.
Ola has its head-office in Bengaluru and provides cab hailing services in the capital city of Karnataka as well Mysuru, Manglore and Hubli.

Varun Dhawan has been busy with his upcoming projects Kalank and Street Dancer, but he will soon be seen in his popular comic avatar for father David Dhawan’s remake of his own 1995 film Coolie No 1. As per a recent report in Mumbai Mirror, Sara Ali Khan has bagged the role of the leading lady in the film.
Dialogue writer Farhad Samji told the publication, “It is a boon for any writer to work with a dedicated actor like Varun. I narrated the dialogue draft to him recently and he immediately asked me for a copy, so he could rehearse his lines even though there is still time for the film to go on the floors. I am looking forward to teaming up with Sara for the second time.”
Farhad had earlier teamed up with Sara for the Rohit Shetty film Simmba. The actor was recently announced as the female lead in Imtiaz Ali’s next. She stars alongside Kartik Aaryan and Randeep Hooda in the film.
David Dhawan had earlier remade his 1997 film Judwaa with Varun Dhawan stepping into Salman Khan’s shoes. Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez played the female leads in the film.
This will be the third time that David Dhawan teams up with his son after Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2.
Varun Dhawan will next be seen in Kalank alongside Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. The film releases on April 17.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his greetings to Imran Khan on the eve of Pakistan National Day on Friday, delivering a message of peace and calling upon people in the sub-continent to work together “in an atmosphere free of terror and violence”.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted the message that he had received from PM Modi.
In this message, according to the Pakistan PM’s tweet, PM Modi said: “It is time that ppl (people) of Sub-continent work together for a democratic, peaceful, progressive & prosperous region, in an atmosphere free of terror and violence.
People familiar with developments in New Delhi described Modi’s message as a customary message sent to heads of government or state on national days and noted that the focus was on terrorism.
News of PM Modi’s message came hours after the External Affairs Ministry announced that the government would skip the Pakistan National Day reception held in New Delhi after Islamabad did not respond to concern over its invitation to Kashmiri separatist, Hurriyat Conference representatives.
No representative of the Indian high commission will also attend the reception to be held in Islamabad on Saturday, external affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told a news briefing.
Pakistan Day, which commemorates both the passing of the Lahore Resolution on creating an independent country for the Muslims of British India in 1940 and the adoption of Pakistan’s first Constitution in 1956, is observed every year on March 23. The Pakistani mission in New Delhi decided to organise the reception this year on March 22.
“We are very clear that any attempt by the Pakistan high commission or the Pakistani leadership to engage with the Hurriyat representatives will not be taken lightly and this is what we have said in the past as well,” Kumar added.
Since it came to power in 2014, the NDA government has frowned on Pakistan’s efforts to engage the separatist leaders of the Hurriyat. However, it has sent an official representative, usually a minister, to Pakistan Day receptions to which Hurriyat leaders were also invited.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will faceoff against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening fixture of #VIVO IPL 2019.
The side put together by CSK last season was dubbed by a few as ‘Army of Oldies’; however, the players justified the adage ‘age is just a number’ as CSK clinched the title upon their return to the league after a two-year suspension. MS Dhoni’s side won 9 of their 14 league matches – this despite having to shift base to Pune, sailed straight to the final by winning the first playoff, and then turned in a dominant performance in the title clash to clinch their third IPL title.
The franchise has retained the bulk of the squad that did duty for them last season. They have given themselves a couple more options by acquiring the services of Mohit Sharma (former India pacer) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (Maharashtra opening batsman) in the IPL Player Auction 2019.
The title holders were dealt a lethal blow days prior to their opening match when South African pacer Lungi Ngidi was ruled out of the season with a side strain. It will be interesting to see if the team management replaces him with David Willey or if they tinker around with the line-up.
RCB had a disappointing season in 2018. The franchise won just 6 of their 14 league matches and finished sixth in the eight team standings. Virat Kohli’s team won only 3 of their first 10 matches and were therefore always playing catch up. Heading into their last league match, they were still in with a chance of progressing to the Playoffs; but Rajasthan Royals emerged victors in that match and qualified as the fourth qualifier.
RCB have retained 15 players from their 2018 squad and acquired the services of nine more players at the IPL Player Auction 2019. Shimron Hetmyer, Shivam Dube and Heinrich Klaasen are among the exciting new signings. They will be handicapped at the start of the season with Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile missing out the first few games because of international commitments.

As has been the case for the last few seasons, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers form the nuclei of RCB’s batting. One can expect the pair to bat with a lot more freedom this season knowing they have more ammunition in the batting order this time; Shimron Hetmyer, Shivam Dube and Heinrich Klaasen are powerful strikers of the ball and can cause plenty of damage with the bat.
