Kate doesn't overhear Anthony at the Conservatory Ball. Anthony courts Kate. It's all going well until the Aubrey Hall visit and the bee sting, which is when Anthony realizes he's in love with Kate. They still run away from each other, but Kate is excited. Anthony is still having an existential crisis.

The next time they see each other, it's in the company of their mothers and Lady Danbury because Anthony is formally ending their courtship, with a stiltedly delivered speech, during which he can't even look Kate in the eye, about how he thinks he and Kate aren't well suited. Kate is too proud to do anything but accept his decision, but not before she gives him a talking to about how she can tell he's lying about the reason for the end of their courtship and fuck him for not even being gentlemanly enough to tell her the truth and she can't wait until Edwina finds her match so she can return to India and be done with this stupid ass country and its stupid ass people.

She and Mary storm out of the room, and Anthony just stands, confused and horny like he always is around Kate then it strikes him--"...return to India?"

Imagine Kate is traveling for business or something and wants to take a picture of the cockpit for her sister, an aspiring pilot (she does this on every trip for her). and as she’s asking, Anthony (the pilot) is just standing there trying not to drool at the absolute beauty asking something (she’s self conscious bc she’s in her traveling outfit and not at her prime). When he realizes she’s talking to him he’s like “yes absolutely” and takes more time than enough showing her around and taking pictures of Kate. Anthony says something like “this is the end of my shift and my next turn is in 72 hours, wanna go out for dinner?”

I'll let readers/writers come up with what’s next.
