Didn't the same thing happen with jitd? Why did it stop airing midway back then?
similar, but different. the spirealm was dropped all at once, and then whisked away 2 hours later. jitd started airing on a normal release schedule, with a tiny bit of promo, cautiously, before it got silently disappeared after 8 episodes…for 2+ years. and had to air in japan.
but, like, if you've seen it, you understand why. almost none of that can be brushed aside as "bromance," it's a love story as well as an insanely complicated crime narrative encompassing decades, two separate syndicates, and corrupt police <—and this was a sticking point as well (not to mention the, you know. child sex workers). the drama desperately tried to tone EVERYTHING down as much as they could, but how much can you really do with what a friend calls, "Police Corruption: The Novel"? also featuring, you know. an out-of-the-closet gay police captain and his younger pansexual fuerdai love interest/suspect who may also, oh yeah, be a homicidal sociopath?
my personal timeline goes something like this:
• youku did an initial cut, passed censorship, and put out 8 episodes; • the NRTA, who had signed off without looking that closely, now looked MUCH more closely and were like WAIT I'M SORRY WHAT, we didn't realize this would be popular! none of this shit is actually okay; • youku pulled it, promising to cut more/overdub more; so • they cut more and the NRTA, now aggrieved, STILL didn't like it; • at this point no one knew what to do so it was mothballed.
then SOME BRILLIANT PERSON was like oh for fuck's sake can we just, idk, SELL IT? who wants this? malaysia, thailand, do y'all want this?—and then wowow, the japanese streamer who probably got it for $5000, said hey you know what we love? we love disturbing gritty crime narratives AND bl, we invented that shit, give it to us.
these are my speculations; but not being yang xia's or priest's besties (ALAS) i will never know. yang xia made noises about DVDs today on weibo tho so! who knows! what the future holds! is more possible?

Well, since it comes to this...
Just so you know, the new story aka "Where love burns eternal" is HEAVILY inspired by Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita". So, if anyone is interested - here is a tv series from 2005 (aged kinda bad, wacky cgi, too literal adaptation in my taste but very close to the book). And here is my translation of the recent movie from 2023. And here is the trailer of the movie just so you can see how heavily the new story is inspired on The Master and Margarita: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iy8dEW_Jjak

Oh, okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don’t know, that gaslight gatekeep girlboss meme, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you think modern feminism has been co-opted by corporations. But what you don’t know is that that meme is not from Instagram, it's not from Twitter, it's not from Tiktok, it’s actually from Tumblr. You’re also blithely unaware of the fact that in January 2021, Tumblr user missnumber1111 posted, "today's agenda: gaslight gatekeep and most importantly girlboss." And then I think it was a-m-e-t-h-y-s-t-r-o-s-e, wasn’t it, who reblogged it with an image of the phrase edited over a piece of "Live, Laugh, Love" wall art? And then gaslight gatekeep girlboss showed up in the feeds of eight different Twitter repost accounts. Then it filtered down through Instagram and then trickled on down into some tragic “alt side of Tiktok” where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that meme represents millions of notes and countless Tumblr users and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from Tumblr when, in fact, you’re wearing the meme that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of “stuff.”

“apothecary diaries is a romance” “apothecary diaries is a court drama” wrong. jinshi’s apothecary diaries is a first love romance and maomao’s is a workplace drama. her biggest problem is being fired via execution and his is falling behind on work worrying she’s taking the wrong man home

a funny thing about having a Problematic Blorbo is that you'll periodically come across a post along the lines of "um let's not forget that [Blorbo] is a bad person..." listing their various crimes, and if you have a modicum of intellectual honesty you find yourself nodding along and saying yeah it's true... but it's the greyness of their character that makes them so compelling... At the same time though you have a little Saul Goodman in your ear going "your honor in their defense: who cares like omfgggg who caresssssss like come onnnnnn"

Hahahahahaha Nan Heng is so cooperative with his 'assassin' 🤣 he's just standing there 🤣

Yes...?

Hahahahaha good job analysing the situation at hand, ah-Long. 😆

Hahahahahahahahahah.

Nan Heng:

At this point of time, other than Nan Heng being on time to the venue, none of the plan specifics have been followed at all yet 😆
#a dream within a dream#I lmaoed so hard on this scene#It was pure chaos and at the same time such a smart plot work

me reading comments about how a drama based on a female lead is becoming frustrating to them because of their interactions with a male lead who she doesnt know half the shit about him and without considering literally anything else about her and her situation

is the drama meant to. idk. cater to the man’s feelings solely because he is upset that she is trying to survive in a world that is as much predetermined as it is new to her??? AND SHE DOESNT EVEN KNOW HIS FEELINGS FOR HER AT ALL??? why is she solely the problem??? right now, to her, its either his death or she dies. god forbid a woman wants to survive.
shit like this in the wild is so. so. 🙂↕️🙂↕️
#THIS#thank you#yes as the audience WE KNOW a lot of stuff#but she doesn't#she knows the script and she knows that her attempts to change it lead to nothing#yeah there is this cool assassin guy she has a crush on who wasn't in the script originally#but she also knows that screenwriter changes some stuff here and there#but her arc? it doesn't change in it's main scenes#she still fell in that pond and big fire happened#like.... her doubt of ML is logical from her character's point

as someone watching a transmigration(?) drama for the first time, its soo fun to me to be going "wow the writing of the show-in-the-show is soooo bad" and then immediately have xiaoyu onscreen be like "wow the writing of this show is so bad" hehehehe! THIS IS SO FUN OMG
