Reflective Critique #3: Question 3
All our lives we have tried our hardest to trust the internet and the information it provides for us. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are on the internet that want people to believe the exact same way they do so they try, and skew peoples minds by implementing fake information and try to convince people that it is true. The biggest example of skewed traditional media would be that of political networks on television. Depending on what channel you turn on you will be fed different information that makes one side look a lot better then the other, which is only done to try and brainwash you that one side is far more reasonable then the other. “Conversely, the study found shows with stronger conservative appeal, particularly “Yellowstone” and “Love Is Blind.” Respondents cited the lead character’s strength and emphasis on family relationships in “Yellowstone” as appealing factors” ( (Political leanings shape TV show preferences among U.S. viewers, 2024). Traditional media makes you believe what they want to believe about certain people. It is a mind controlling form of entertainment that has been around for forever. “Political ideology influences how Americans view some of today’s most popular TV shows, according to a new study conducted by hub entertainment research and the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF)” (Political leanings shape TV show preferences among U.S. viewers, 2024). Traditional media has seriously affected the past generation and the way that they think. This skewed media is also the cause for the passing on of ideologies from generation to generation, because that is what the past generations were taught from the media.

Reflective Critique #3: Question 1
Cell phones are the end all be all in our society now a days. Without a cell phone you are viewed as an outcast which means more people will tend to not listen to your opinions and what you have to say. With this powerful tool we have the power to reach the entire world with just a click of a button. Cell phones allow us to express and voice our opinions to share with everyone, which makes it easier sharing movements and what they stand for. This helps get the movement off the ground and into the air which makes it gain more traction than movements of the past. “Cell phones allow you to do so much on the go, which can save you time. With endless applications, the ability to communicate via different platforms, send photos, etc., you can get a lot done with nothing more than one powerful device” ( (How Have Cell Phones Changed us Socially, 2024). Now the people who hold the most power are those who choose to go on their cell phones more then others. If you consistently spend time on a device that allows you to connect to others worldwide then you yourself can spread your word and the movements, you support more frequently. I believe that almost, if not all movements have been supported by cell phone usage. Instead of word of mouth we are now getting our information at a much more rapid pace making it easier for people to see what is currently happening in our societies.

Reflective Critique 2 Question 2
The person who I chose where democratization had a negative impact on their career is James Charles. James Charles was a makeup influencer and quickly rose to stardom through his videos reviewing different makeup brands. When James was first coming up through YouTube a makeup guru giant named Tati Westbrook took him in and taught him everything to become massive. Suddenly Tati released a video titled “Bye Sister.” The video was an explanation as to how James was actually not a great person and touched on the bad things he had done in the past. From not helping his fellow friend out in reviewing her products to being accused of trying to manipulate straight men into being gay. The internet moved swiftly and quickly by unsubscribing to James leading to over a million lost followers in a day. He lost a ton of fans as well as endorsements and brand deals. His cancellation lasted for years, and he is still feeling the impact from that video to this day.

Reflective Critique 2 Question 1
Khaby had taken advantage of probably the most influential time to ever be on social media. Covid was a time where we as humans could not connect face to face. What happens when you cannot connect face to face? You move onto the next best thing which is through your phones. The usage of social media had skyrocketed as the days went on as people had begun getting bored and wanted another form of entertainment to fulfill their needs. Khaby had taken massive advantage of this situation by consistently posting on TikTok and garnering a following from it. TikTok was “The” social media to have at the time so a lot of different people including Khaby noticed that they could make a career on making TikTok's and did just that. With all these factors coming into play I do not think Khaby would be as popular as he is without Covid and the launch of TikTok. He noticed how to take advantage of the moment and without that moment I do not think there is a Khaby Lame.

Reflective Critique 2 Question 1
I chose Khaby Lame as my person to do a reflection on. Khaby was a former factory worker back in 2020 but was let go of his job when Covid-19 had started. At the time TikTok had Fastly become the most popular app on planet earth with millions upon millions of people scrolling the app everyday while under lockdown. Khaby took advantage of that by posting every day on the app. He would strike gold with his reaction videos to over complicated everyday things. He would put on a blank face and make a face once the original creator would show a life hack that would require more steps than needed then Khaby would proceed to show the easier method to do such thing. An example of this would be someone showing how to put on a sock with a tool and then khaby would show himself putting on socks with his hands. He had a very simple yet successful way to get popular on TikTok and that skyrocketed his career to a completely different level.

Catfishing allows people to hide behind a screen as well, which makes people believe that it is easier to get away with it. Identity has a pure connection with Catfishing as it helps give others another identity to relate to.

People who catfish do not have the confidence to be in their own skin and identity. Catfishing is the fake identity of someone online who tries to separate themselves from the real world.

They want to feel like someone who they are not and put themselves in a different identity than the one they have now. They also catfish to get people to fall in love with this facade that they have created.
