just saw a twisted-doctor fan who is a proud pedophile and actively dating a kid so im going to say here now that my blog is not a safe space for pedophiles/rapists, racists, proshippers, or twisted-doctor/sleepykinq apologists/supporters. just because i enjoy re-nightmare DOES NOT mean i support twisted doctor or any of the weird things in re-nightmare's story before it got retconned and i stopped supporting him in 2021

i do not support him financially or generally, i get his content from alternative sources that are not connected to him (archival links and such) and in my versions of re-nightmare any sensitive material is dealt with care unlike how it is in the actual story

Hope this isn't a weird question! But what do you think about how the horror in Doll Eye is presented?

Don't worry, this isn't a weird question to me! Just prepare for a mouthful under the cut, I have a lot to say.

In all honesty, psychological horror games like FNAF (2014), The Amnesia Collection (2010-2023) Doki Doki Literature Club!, and Alice: Madness Returns, are meant to use atmosphere, sounds such as like music, ambience, vaguely vocal noises, and what can be used by our imagination to fill in the gaps of the things that are unseen to create a disturbing picture, they're meant to emotionally disturb you, the viewer.

Compare those to Doll Eye, and its just... very lacking in those fields for what claims to be a psychological horror game. Even worse, is that it just feels like the horror of Doll Eye is horribly watered down. It doesn't feel like what it was intended to be, a much more serious, grittier story.

There's little to no atmosphere, and it feels like. A regular RPG, there's little to no horror, and so much character development from previous versions of the Doll Eye Wiki, and old tumblr posts by Jeremy, were just flushed down the drain, which ended up making the current Doll Eye we have a total disappointment.

Doll Eye wasn't supposed to be this Clone High-esque rebrand that struggles to take it's own source as a psychological horror game seriously.

The horror elements we get are only shown in like. 3 scenes, the beginning and the dream sequences involving Shia (who I'm going to call Misha in my rewrite so people can tell him and Shai's names apart better,) but they feel so toned down. They don't even feel remotely disturbing.

Unfortunately, the predecessor game that was made for practice, Deeper/My Game, just gives more justice than what we have in the source material. It actually GIVES the atmosphere that Doll Eye is/was SUPPOSED to have.

Deeper/My Game still succeeds over the actual game, because not only are we seeing the gritty nature of what Doll Eye was intended to be when it was still in early development during the years 2018-2019, but it was also where Mystery was toying with us, the player, because she wanted to. Its even stated in the true ending of the game that she did it for her own amusement, which shows us that Mystery was meant to be a much more serious character in development.

The reason why it was called "My Game," and later "Deeper" has a double meaning that was fitting as well, first was that it was a game that Jeremy had made as practice for Doll Eye, but it was also because Mystery, was literally playing a mind game on you, because she wanted something fun to do with YOU, even if it meant messing around. Deeper, because you had to DIG into the files, messing around to find "My Art," and finding a deeper part of herself.

And the Dead End, and the scene where you're Mystery, but in Victor's room, was meant to show horror through sound. The loud noises of slamming doors repeating, the swirling, dark atmospheric noises that caused the audio to peak... these sounds, were definitely MEANT for Doll Eye. The only example we got of such audio, was in the first demo release that had dropped on April Fools. Afterwards, nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Everything about current Doll Eye disappoints me, it feels like Jeremy really had a good first attempt with Deeper/My Game, but in the end, he forgot what made psychological horror a beautiful genre in the world of fiction, because he traded it for a wacky, Clone High-esque rebrand, that doesn't fit the nature of the game he wants to create. The OST is rather mediocre at best, and OSTs shouldn't JUST be music, because sometimes there's games like Postal (1997) that have ambiences for their soundtracks, which I feel could've helped Doll Eye so much more to make the game actually feel dark and gritty.

Descriptions of environments, objects, interactions and people in stories like Ted the Caver (2001), and the Abandoned by Disney tetralogy, could've also helped by a narrative standpoint, especially where we have Alfred as our main character! Stories like those are told in a first person format, and Alfred writes his experiences in a journal, so I think having Alfred tell parts of the story in first person through interactions, places, and the things he's surrounded with, would work so well.

Overall, I really wish that Doll Eye's development didn't have such a total landslide overtime, it was going so well at first, but now it's a real disappointment. It feels like Jeremy struggles to take his story seriously now, and it sucks.

I saw that one of my friends (Raza) was getting harassed and sent g*re because she still draws Doll Eye art despite the fact that she said that she doesn’t support Twisted Doctor anymore, IK that Doll Eye makes you uncomfortable considering the fact that twisted doctor used those characters to groom children but y’all need to understand that SOME people separate art from the artist. If you are so uncomfortable with Doll Eye, then stop searching for Doll Eye content, it’s that simple.
