Guys we need to make more Squib Albus fics they actually have so much potential. The few ones I've seen make Albus really depressed because he's a squib but I think a story where he becomes his own person separate from his family's legacy (because he can't be a wizard and whatnot) and grows to be comfortable/secure with not having magic would be so fire.

Thoughts on Tom Felton and Cursed Childs new casting

Oh boy, time for another long rant nobody asked for because I legit cannot go any longer without expressing my utter devastation and anger at this.

Let’s start with this. I hate JKR, and due to Toms connection and support of her, I hate him by proxy. Here’s what made HPCC stand out from the regular franchise. The casting was diverse, nuanced and even bold at some times, with multiple trans and queer actors having gotten lead roles. What does adding Tom Felton to the mix do? Ruin that “safe” environment that previously was made by trans/queer actors to spite JKR. The entire rewrite, the actors who helped shape the show for I inclusivity, that’s all gone now.

And before it’s mentioned, I know HPCC could never be a truly safe space for queer and trans people due to it being a part of the HP franchise. However in all of its years running, there have been so many castings of specifically queer actors to the point it feels like type casting. The changes to the script issued by trans/queer actors is also so important to acknowledge, because it combats at least SOME of JKRs stances. Previously I had assumed the HPCC show had taken their stance by doing these diverse castings. Now it is clear they’d rather prioritise money and profit.

Which leads to the next point, being that this is so obviously a cashgrab. I know HPCC isn’t selling well, especially because these past few months they’ve been doing so many collabs with old actors in a desperate attempt to stay relevant, in addition to the Brazil prod being cancelled. What breaks my heart is that HPCC BW does Genuenly have good and specifically queer fan base, that see nuances and good in the show. Not to sound sappy, but the “actual fans” of the show are what makes being in this fandom so fun. People who go to see the actors and appreciate what the show has previously stood for, especially after the rewrite.

Now the show is going to infiltrated by Draco fangirls who couldn’t give to shits about the actual show, and are only there to thirst over a middle aged man past his prime. Stage door is a nightmare, and rip to ANY new actor, especially Draco actors that will cover for him, because nobody is going to acknowledge em anymore. The fact the show is about ALBUS and SCORPIUS, yet the show is advertising more about Draco now, who mind you has like 30 min screen time in the films and even less on stage. Plus I bet there will be an influx of hate towards the actual plot of the show, because BW is running with the new even shorter script, which in my honest opinion sucks.

Lastly, Toms involvement in the show I believe will force the BW actors to be more careful about their outspokenness against JKR, in addition to NDAs being stricter. Previously BW had gotten away with so much, like nearly kisses on stages, and so many other things that and undeniably queer coded. Having Tom, and then by proxy JKR be this close to the show will ruin all that. Not only that but I doubt and hope no trans/queer actor would feel safe sharing a stage with him. Idc if he’s not directly transphobic or homophobic, he has chosen to side with JKR and that’s enough for me to not like him. Previous actors, and current ones now at West-End, constantly repost stuff about trans rights and are vocal about their political views. Being political is a part of theatre, and queer identity and the creative arts. This casting ruins that entirely, and just goes to show how in the end they’re willing to negate 4 years of the progress they made for a quick buck.

You absolutely get it. Because defeating voldemort didn't make all the strong blood purist and anti-muggle ideologies that were so present in the wizarding world magically fade away. In fact, by killing voldemort and having a muggle-born witch become the minister of magic, Harry Potter and his friends have basically made blood purists even more pissed off. Former death eaters probably went into hiding after the war but whos to say they don't hate harry and anyone to do with him? And it's so obvious throughout the story that these people raise their kids on these hateful ideologies and majority of those kids end up in slytherin. You mean to tell me that Albus Potter, son of Harry Potter, wasn't getting a lot of backlash or torment from these same kids and their families when he got sorted into slytherin? How CC was able to blatantly ignore this aspect is crazy to me. There was so much potential with Albus's character and him being sorted into slytherin and they really missed out on it.

Reading @gobstoneswithhector scorbus fics helped me pinpoint exactly why Harry Potter as a franchise is so unfulfilling. It’s because at the end of the day, the story amounts to nothing. Our characters do nothing to challenge the status quo or actually make lasting changes to the wizarding world in a meaningful manner. The only thing of note is house elves gaining autonomy but even that is treated as a joke most of the time. Goblins are still persecuted, blood racism still exists and inter-house relationships at hogwarts are still piss poor. These are all just signs that despite Voldemort being defeated, the world will eventually in some way fall back into the same old cycle as before after the briefest respite. The cursed child, despite holding some dear place in my heart, also is plagued by the same issues of missed potential because were we not hailing the ending of the books as some grand epic finale, it could’ve been a great commentary on the fact that wizarding world has stagnated and will soon fall into the cycles of hate the previous generation failed to dismantle, by using the story of two slytherins, Albus and Scorpius who get bullied at school to do so.

One of the main criticisms against scorose is it's a forced straight ship for the sake of offsetting any gay allegations made towards scorpius and albus (which i agree with), but I haven't seen anyone else talk abt this other aspect that could be the reason why the ship wouldn't work out.

Rose takes issue with Scorpius right off the bat not only because of the rumours about him being voldemorts child but also because his parents (and grandparents too though she doesn't bring this up) were death eaters. Him being a malfoy plays a role in this. Being a granger-weasely, Im pretty sure she understands the trauma and harm former death eaters like the malfoys have caused during the wizarding war and doesn't want to associate with them. Not only that, I'm sure molly, arthur, or any other weasely have brought it up at some point that the Malfoys were particularly nasty towards the weaselys (ex. the bookshop scene with arthur and lucius in the COS). Plus if you look at the hp family tree lore/history, pureblood families from the sacred 28 like the malfoys have long seen the weasely's as blood traitors and therefore inferior. To add on to their bad streak with the granger-weaselys is the fact that bellatrix lestrange, aunt of draco malfoy and relative to the malfoys, tortured Rose's mom. Like Hermione probably still has the scar too and Rose might be aware of how much of a toll that takes on her mother. What im trying to say is, ofc Rose is not going to like the Malfoys, people who have disrespected her family for a long time and caused them so much pain. Ofc she's gonna be avoidant of the kid whos from that same family. She's not comfortable with being close to scorpius and for very valid reasons!

Before you say it, yes scorpius is not like his death eater grandparents and is obvs a very kind boy but even Harry becomes suspicous of scorpius because he's a malfoy. When you grow up in a family like the malfoys people are going to think you've been strongly influenced by them and hold their same values/beliefs. And from what i've seen of rose's character, she tends to be an all or nothing type of person. She sees things in black and white and doesn't look for a middleground. Which is why she never really gave scorpius a chance to prove himself to her. For her, because Albus was a potter he HAD to be gryffindor. So i imagine she also thinks, Scorpius is a malfoy therefore he HAS to have some bad influence from his family. And this is why you can't really expect her to be with him for shipping sake 😭. And even if they did get together and it got to the point of marriage, marrying into a family that has seen your family and muggleborns like your mom as subhuman for a long time can put you in a not so good in-law situation. Like you deserve a purple heart or some kind of soldier award for the battles ur gonna be facing. But ig this very last part could apply to scorbus as well if they ever got married cuz of the malfoy-potter beef.

I find it extremely interesting that the Mouthwashing fandom decided to make Jimmy darker skinned, when, in game, he has basically the same skintone as Curly.

I don't know, it's weird how... The "Villan" of the game, the "Monster", the one who does everything wrong, the violent misogynist, the rapist... He is who they choose to make darker skinned.

Not Anya, the innocent woman, the poor victim, the one who couldn't do anything!

Not Swansea, the responsible one, the father figure, the one that tried to take care of others.

And much less Curly. Curly the hero, Curly, just as much as a victim as the rest! Curly who is excused time and time again. Curly who people who say liking Jimmy is morally wrong, proceed to claim they love, how amazing he is, how wonderful. Because yes he let Anya stay with her rapist. Yes he let Jimmy do everything he did. Yes he didn't take responsibility.

Yes yes but.... He's white blue eyed and blonde a flawed human, and Jimmy is a monster and therefore darker so of course we can forgive Curly but not Jimmy!

Everything Anya does in the plot of Mouthwashing on the day of the crash and esp afterwards is for her own self preservation first and foremost. Every decision she makes is to keep herself alive and from being brutalized by Jimmy again. Everything in Mouthwashing foils to another aspect of the plot and game, and if Anya told Curly that SA was involved in her pregnancy and he just didn’t care then so many things wouldn’t make sense. Curly and Jimmy were best friends and knew each other long before the Tulpar, he literally GOT him onto the Tulpar. Anya isn’t dumb she’s super smart, her self preservation and the fact that she’s been suffering from Jimmy’s harassment so long shows in the way that she appeases him. She knows he needs constant reassurance that he’s in control which is why she has him give Curly his pills. It’s a task to reassure him that can’t inherently kill Curly without him directly intending to. Despite his quickness to abandon Curly once he pinned the crash onto him, they would’ve been very obviously close to everyone else. Jimmy’s harassment would’ve been clear far before the assault in the same way that it was close to the crash. But why didn’t Curly do anything? Curly trusted Jimmy. It’s likely that Jimmy would be cruel to him in their friendship for years, so he wouldn’t have seen him being demeaning to Anya all the time as abnormal. Plus Swansea was mean to Diasuke on the ship and it was a more constant problem considering Swansea wanted him to never wanna come back for another flight and get stuck there. Curly had trusted Jimmy so much because of his personal experiences with him that he never actually protected her. He did his job as a captain and kept the peace, but that’s the extent of his actions. Anya couldn’t tell Curly about the assault while guaranteeing her safety for the same reason she didn’t tell Daisuke of Swansea: they were also men who knew Jimmy and there was no absolute guarantee they’d value her safety over keeping him around. The commentary on misogyny and rape culture is so important in Mouthwashing it’s like 90% of the plot. She couldn’t guarantee that a crew made of entirely men wouldn’t value covering up for each other and saving their pride in their desertion of people, especially since opinions of him were fairly positive and assumed he was just a hard ass.

Ok Ik everyone shat on sumire and borusumi following that one chapter where boruto snubs sumire’s attempt to talk and like tbh if I was sumire I would’ve lost interest immediately. I like to think of myself as unentitled, but I felt the disrespect boruto gave to sumire through the screen while reading. I mean, he didn’t have to get into any long or emotional convo with her (like the bare minimum was “oh hey sumire, nice to see you again as well” or sumn like that) but his short, dismissive response and then immediately switching over to Sarada- like Sumire, he’s not gonna pay attention to you and you need to drop these feelings. Again, If I was her I would have gotten turned off from that and go find a better use of my feelings cause that was just disrespectful. Idk, it’s just frustrating to see sumire have strong, romantic feelings for boruto and he doesn’t even care that much for her(but this was only one scene too so I’m keeping an open mind that this was just a one time thing)

Btw I’m not a borusumi or borusara shipper so these are just my neutral thoughts. I think what’s also important to remember is boruto has a lot on his mind and more troubling things to deal with. His actions could’ve been unintentional, really.
