here’s to jake, who constantly drops wisdom in the midst of adventure, whose loyalty is only matched by his brother, who will always appreciate a good sandwich.

and here’s to finn, whose positivity knows no bounds, who battled his depression as hard as every monster he’s ever fought, and who wants nothing more than to protect the ones he loves.

this show found me in the darkest of times, and never failed at lifting my spirits. sure, the humor is silly and nonsensical. but these characters are all heart. i’ll always be grateful for them, and the opportunity to watch them grow over the years. adventure time, i won’t say goodbye, because we know the fun never ends. but for now, it’s been mathematical! 💖

20GAYTEEN PULLS THROUGH ONCE AGAIN

Adventure Time is over… but the adventure in our hearts will never end.

If i could have told the 12 year old little girl version of me years ago that… the weird, zany, and NEW show that she was getting made fun of for watching, Adventure Time, by her older siblings and abusive dad at his house, would one day make her cry, I wouldn’t have believe it.

7 years later that little girl is approaching her 19th birthday.

In those 7 years, she has been outed to her family, abused and harassed for being a lesbian, struggled to rebuild a relationship with her mother, and completely cut her abusive biological father out of her life.

Since that first day, she watched her first episode of Adventure Time (the one with the paper army in the library, remember them? back when Jake was trying to find ways to woo Lady Rainicorn?), she’s been blessed with a new baby sibling, her parents house foreclosed, she moved across country, had to get a job to support her family, graduated, hit Rock Bottom, fell in love, and is now engaged to her fiancee!

That girl was me. Now I’m a young, lesbian woman. Adventure Time has been a part of my journey through it all.

I remember when I stopped watching the show, didn’t have cable, didn’t have internet, and also was fearful. As I grew older and recognized myself as a lesbian, I learned there came loss with it.

I feared that Marceline and Princess Bubblegum would always have a bitter relationship. When it developed for the better, I feared we would never get a happy ending with them, that being a lesbian was going to be censored, once again, end in tragedy, and it felt easier to pull away then stay and be hurt.

But that isn’t the case today, my friends. We have gotten our happy ending with Bubbline. All the little girls who’ve grown up with Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline, just like me, have grown up to see their love for other women represented.

All the little girls who are just now getting into the show, or only have recently (like my little 12 year old sister right now, who just shared with me earlier this year her crushes on other girls), are being told that they won’t just have happy endings with their wives, girlfriends, partners, but happy lives, too.

Thank you Adventure Time. Thank you Pendleton Ward. Thank you Cartoon Network.

For doing what no children’s media has been able to successfully do, to such an immense audience, as you have.

You’ve shown that there is HOPE in lesbian relationships. There is success. There is effort, there is care, there is tenderness, there is LOVE. We are not inappropriate, we are not gross, we are beautiful, we are worthy, and we are strong.

Even if you’re not LGBT, Adventure Time has left us with the most important lesson of all: There is always hope. You will be okay. This pain is temporary, neccesary, and soon you will THRIVE.

Adventure Time is over, but the adventure of love, life, and hope will never be truly over.

And as long as you hold on to that, Adventure Time will continue to live on in our hearts.

Come Along With Me

Well, I think I was satisfied enough even though I only as of right now watched the last 5 minutes of the legit my most memorable childhood cartoon. Thank you Adventure Time cast and crew from the creator Pendleton Ward who created it to especially Adam Muto who took over and gave Adventure Time a deeper meaning over the years, also Rebecca Sugar for the music and character development, to again everyone like Joy Ang for the title cards and all. The shows been with me since I was 10 and I couldn’t be more proud of the development (even the fillers) and now as I’m becoming an adult I hope to see more icons for generations like mine to continue the animation industry.
